- He was the first conductor to make complete recordings of Tchaikovsky's three ballets - "Swan Lake", "The Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker", all with the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (since re-named The Minnesota Orchestra), in the 1950s. He later recorded stereo remakes of "The Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker". He is the only conductor to have recorded the complete "Nutcracker" three times, with three different orchestras - the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra (in 1954), the London Symphony Orchestra (in 1962), and the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam (in 1975).
- His early stereo recording of Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture", for Mercury Living Presence Records, is regarded as one of the greatest recordings of that work.
- He recorded the first complete album of all of Josef Haydn's symphonies, with the Philharmonica Hungarica.

De Basil's Ballets Russes production at the Royal Opera House in the Covent Garden, London, England with Marian Ladre, Lara Obidenna, Tamara Grigorieva, Olga Morosova, Sono Osato, Vera Nelidova, Alexandra Danilova, Paul Petroff, Alexis Kosloff, Serge Bousloff, Yura Lazovsky, Serge Ismailoff, Leonide Massine, Lubov Tchernicheva, David Lichine, Michael Katcharoff, and Yurek Shabelevsky in the cast.

De Basil's Ballets Russes production at the Royal Opera House in the Covent Garden, London, England with Irina Baronova, Edouard Borovansky, Paul Petroff, Roman Jasinsky, Yura Lazovsky, Serge Ismailoff, Lubov Tchernicheva, Yurek Shabelevsky, Sergei Grigorieff, Tamara Grigorieva, David Lichine, Alexandra Danilova, Marian Ladre, and Madame Helene Sadoven (of the Grand Opera in Paris, France) in the cast.
