- Conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra from 1945 to 1948.
- Conductor of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, with whom he made the first complete recordings of Tchaikovsky's ballets, from 1949 to 1960. Because he recorded "Swan Lake" only once, that Minneapolis Symphony recording (in mono) has been released on CD, but Dorati's Minneapolis Symphony recordings of "The Sleeping Beauty" and "The Nutcracker" have not been, due to the fact that Dorati recorded those again in stereo with other orchestras, and it is his stereo recordings of those works which are available on CD.
