When she finished recording her new album, Sara Evans decided to re-watch Mad Men and found herself thinking about embodying a character like the impeccably dressed, mysterious Betty Draper.
“It came to me: ‘You know what? I should wear wigs for the album artwork because I’m copying other artists,'” says Evans, calling Rolling Stone during quarantine. “It’s a covers record, so when else can I really just go into character?”

Chicago – In 1973, director Norman Jewison fashioned a radical film version of the rock opera/Broadway show “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and the cinematic innovations plus stellar cast equaled a timeless movie musical classic. Josh Mostel portrayed King Herod and Barry Dennen was Pontius Pilate in the iconic film.
Jesus Christ Superstar (Jcs) began it’s life as a rock opera, a concept record released in 1969 with Ian Gillan of the rock group Deep Purple singing the part of Jesus. Two key members of the album’s cast went on to do the film … Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene and Barry Dennen as Pontius Pilate. The Broadway show adaptation opened two years later, and the 1973 film followed with Ted Neeley as Jesus.

It’s been over 10 years since Adam Lambert famously lost the “American Idol” title to singer-songwriter Kris Allen and fans are still adamant he was robbed. In a recent poll we asked our readers which runner-up from the past 17 seasons of “Idol” most deserved to win and Lambert won by an absolute landslide. With 74% of the vote, he is by far the most beloved second-place finisher.
Finishing a distant second place in our poll with 8% of the vote was Season 2’s Clay Aiken, who lost to Ruben Studdard in the closest finale vote in “American Idol” history. Last year’s finalist Alejandro Aranda snagged 6% after losing to country singer Laine Hardy. Katharine McPhee finished in fourth place with 4% of voters who thought she should have defeated Taylor Hicks in Season 5.

Two days ago Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Twitter page asked socially-isolated followers which of the composer’s songs they’d most like to hear Sir Andrew play. The answer was clear – “All I Ask Of You” from The Phantom of the Opera – but another response was more surprising: Lin-Manuel Miranda responded with a performance of his own Alw favorite.

This is definitely something you definitely want to tell Nai Nai about: Awkwafina won Best Comedy/Musical Actress for “The Farewell” at Sunday’s Golden Globes, becoming the first Asian champ in the category.
The rapper-turned-actress topped our odds and beat Ana de Armas (“Knives Out”) in second, followed by Beanie Feldstein (“Booksmart”), Emma Thompson (“Late Night”) and Cate Blanchett. She was just the sixth woman of Asian descent to be nominated here, following Machiko Kyo (1956’s “The Teahouse of the August Moon”), Miyoshi Umeki (1961’s “Flower Drum Song”), Yvonne Elliman (1973’s “Jesus Christ Superstar”), Hailee Steinfeld (2016’s “The Edge of Seventeen”), who’s of Filipino descent, and her “Crazy Rich Asians” (2018) co-star Constance Wu.

Awkwafina is the overwhelming frontrunner to take home the Golden Globe for Best Comedy/Musical Actress for “The Farewell,” which would not only give her her first Golden Globe but make her the first Asian winner in the category.
The rapper-turned-actress is just the sixth woman of Asian descent to be nominated here, following Machiko Kyo (1956’s “The Teahouse of the August Moon”), Miyoshi Umeki (1961’s “Flower Drum Song”), Yvonne Elliman (1973’s “Jesus Christ Superstar”), Hailee Steinfeld (2016’s “The Edge of Seventeen”), who’s of Filipino descent, and her “Crazy Rich Asians” (2018) co-star Constance Wu. None of the five won.
Like at the Oscars, the list of Asian Golden Globe acting winners isn’t very long. A year after her “Crazy Rich Asians” co-star Constance Wu made the cut, Awkwafina received a Best Comedy/Musical Actress Golden Globe nomination on Monday, becoming just the sixth actress of Asian descent to be shortlisted in the category.

Chicago – To begin with, Yvonne Elliman’s vocal stylings have appeared on albums that have sold 50 million units. The singer was discovered by Andrew Lloyd Webber for his seminal “Jesus Christ Superstar” rock opera (approximately 10 million albums sold), portraying Mary Magdelene, and also had a monster hit – “If I Can’t Have You” – on the legendary “Saturday Night Fever” soundtrack (40 million sold).
The effusive Ms. Elliman was 17 years old, and singing in a London club in the late 1960s, when composer Andrew Lloyd Webber heard her ethereal voice, and signed her to portray Mary Magdalene in his new rock opera. The album of “Jesus Christ Superstar” was released in 1969, and took off like a rocket. Later, she joined the original Broadway cast of Superstar in 1971 in the same role, and finally completed the cycle as Mary M. with the 1973 film version, directed by Norman Jewison.

When “Jesus Christ Superstar” first debuted as a concept album in 1970, it was considered so sacrilegious by some that it was banned by the BBC.Fast-forward 48 years, and attitudes have certainly changed as a concert production was shown on Easter Sunday by NBC. “Jesus Christ Superstar: Live” scored 13 Emmy nominations and is the overwhelming favorite to win Best Variety Special Live, overshadowing the Oscar and Grammy telecasts.
History could also be made for its original creators, composers Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. An Emmy win would allow them both to join the elite Egot club of 12 that have won the big-four showbiz prizes: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. But just as the talents behind this retelling of Jesus’ last days through the eyes of his disciple Judas have waited for the full recognition of their Bible-inspired rock opera, “Superstar” itself and its iconic characters has been long overdue for...

The rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar will be resurrected as a live concert on NBC airing Sunday, April 1, 45 years after the movie became a hit — so what better way to celebrate than by learning secrets about the original movie? The new event is just the latest incarnation of the musical, created in 1970 by then-20-somethings Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. "The premise comes from that Bob Dylan line, 'Did Judas Iscariot have God on his side?'" Lloyd Webber says of their story of Jesus' last six days. The 1973 film, starring Ted Neeley as Jesus and Carl Anderson as Judas, earned a devoted following. "It changed my life completely," says Ted, who at 74 still plays Jesus in traveling productions. "It's the most magnificent experience I've ever had — that's why I will do it until [my voice] doesn't work anymore," he says. Here's a look at some of the miracles that brought the movie to life.

Chicago – The TV show “Get Smart,” which had its original run on the NBC network from 1965-1970, was an oddball classic. Created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, the sitcom was a goofy satire on cold war politics of the 1960s, with a hapless operative named Maxwell Smart (Don Adams) working for the Control agency, spying against a foreign menace called Kaos. Chicago – To answer the musical question, “Baby, if you ever wondered, wondered whatever became of me?” there is the sublime Loni Anderson, who portrayed Jennifer Marlowe on the popular 1970s sitcom, “Wkrp in Cincinnati.” Anderson was an attendee of “The Hollywood Show,” which comes to Chicago again on September 7th and 8th, 2013.
Loni Anderson is much like her character on Wkrp – luminous, intelligent and with a unique perspective. She climbed the show business ladder herself, after having a first marriage and a child in her teens. After that marriage ended before her 21st birthday, she finished college at the University of Minnesota and started an acting career, taking roles on stage and in local and national commercials. After moving to Los Angeles in 1975, she dyed her jet black hair to blonde, and began a series of high profile appearances on familiar dramas and comedies of the era, including “The Bob Newhart Show” and “Police Woman.

I take my recapping duties seriously, but really, do you expect me to remember anything that had happened in "Saturday Night GLEEver" once I saw Santana strutting down the hall in her white suit singing "Stayin' Alive"? Good luck with that.
My brain might have short-circuited, but according to my notes and the record of my reactions I left strewn over Twitter, something good finally came out of The Glee Project – and it's not just the fact that it's finally possible to use the phrase "More Unique" and have it be grammatically correct. With the debut of Wade/Unique (Alex Newell) singing "Boogie Shoes" in a pair of size 13 glitter platform sandals, we got pretty much the only performance of the night that felt infused with true disco energy.

Glee Sneak Peeks: Watch and Listen to All of the Songs from "Saturday Night Glee-ver"!
Glee is going disco on the upcoming April 17 episode, appropriately titled "Saturday Night Glee-ver". At the beginning of the episode, Will seems frustrated about what assignment to give the kids that week, so he confers with Sue. She remembers his previous challenge about singing songs from a specific album and suggests the album that "defined a generation": Saturday Night Fever.
Will loves the album, but is hesitant to assign it to the kids because, according to him, "they hate disco". Kids these days, huh? To combat that problem, Sue cleverly reminds Will that the kids are crazies for freebies and swag, so if he can come up with a good enough prize, she's sure they'll even sing disco.
Sue's idea seems to work, because the glee club is breaking out the Bee Gees in no time.

Nicole Scherzinger has played taken on a number of surprising roles in her time -- actress, model and talent judge, to name a few – but it's her latest possible part that has tongues wagging.
The current "X Factor" judge and former Pussycat Doll is no stranger to dressing like a common streetwalker, so her potential upcoming role as Jesus' right-hand hooker-turned-saint, Mary Magdalene, may be a perfect fit.
The Sun reports that Scherzinger may take on the role of the world's most beloved prostitute (sorry, Air Force Amy) in film remake of Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic musical, "Jesus Christ Superstar."
The stage musical was first performed on Broadway in 1971 and was remade for the big screen only two years later, with "If I Can't Have You" singer Yvonne Elliman in the role of Mary Magdalene for both stage and screen versions.

Easter is here, which means it's time for flamboyantly gay hats to courageously come out of the closet, and time to ogle Hollywood's hottest Jesi!
Jesus is one of the most coveted roles in show business, but it's not for the timid. To succeed, you have to make us believe you're willing to die for our sins. Not stub your toe for our sins, not get a nasty paper cut for our sins, but you have to convince us you're willing to get nailed ... so we can do the same.
The actors on the following pages all have that Original Sinnocence™, that combination of piousness and grungy hotness. Take a look at our Calvacade of Christ, and decide which one deserves to be crowned awarded "Sexiest Jesus!"
Jeremy Sisto in Jesus
Jesus was a 1999 four-hour NBC mini-series that featured Jeremy in the title role and Debra Messing as the spunkiest Mary Magdalene in history.

We look back at the 'American Idol' finalists' past 11 weeks and see how they really match up.

Tuesday night's "American Idol" finale will have season-eight finalists (and roommates) Kris Allen and Adam Lambert going toe-to-toe in three rounds. Lambert is the odds-on winner come Wednesday night's results show, but we say Kris still has a fighting chance. Taking a cue from "America's Next Top Model," in which Tyra Banks does a side-by-side comparison of the two finalists' portfolios, we thought we'd break down Adam Lambert's and Kris Allen's "Idol" repertoire week-to-week to help determine who's really in the lead.
Week One: The Semifinals
Adam: The Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"
Kris: Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror"
Winner: Adam
Adam pulled out all the stops for his first live "Idol" performance,...

The name of the game is artistry and those that are able to express said artistry will find themselves among the top Idols. Each week we hear the judges talk about artistry; they praised Adam and Kris for being unique while ripping apart once front runner Lil Rounds and fan favorite Anoop Desai. Last night was Disco night and the judges were on repeat. They fell over Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta, and Danny Gokey while criticizing Matt Giraud, Anoop Desai, and Lil Rounds. The good news for the judge's bottom three is that America votes and they will be the ones securing spots in the finals. PopStar has your Disco week results and find out what the judges had to say about the top seven finalists last night. The night started on a sour note when Lil Rounds hit the stage singing Chaka Khan but quickly went up...

Last night American Idol's resident eyeliner apologist Adam Lambert surprised yet again by delivering a stripped-down ballad on disco night. The song he chose - Yvonne Elliman's iconic "If I Can't Have You" - was yet another tip-off that this kid knows his classics, but it was the unexpected arrangement that once again wowed the judges.
Okay, so this is pretty much to be expected at this point. What was slightly more surprising? The shocking evidence that diminutive Idol glad-hander Ryan Seacrest clearly reads AfterElton.com and is stealing my material!
Here's what went down...
Last week I announced right here on this very blog-thing that from here on out I was pronouncing Adam Lambert as "Adam Lambehhhhrrrr", like "camembert" or ... um ... "Lilith Faire"? So imagine my surprise last night when the snack-sized guy in the sharkskin suit introduced our fave as ... "Adam ... Lambehhhhhhrrrrrr!" (The camera of course adds a few "hhrrr"s.

It is the Disco Night on "American Idol" and two will be sent home if they screw up tonight. And back to its usual judging mode, all the four judges get to say something about a contestant's performance.
The first performer of the night was Lil Rounds with Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman". Randy Jackson was still rambling on how he cannot see Rounds as an artist. Kara DioGuardi thought it was not worth the wait while Paula Abdul threw in some kindness, saying that Round looked great. Simon Cowell played it straight and plain, dropping the "you're going home" bomb.
Kris Allen sang Donna Summer's "She Works Hard for the Money". Although it was a disco song, he brought his guitar and was backed up with an acoustic band. Kara loved the arrangement which was a big risk, Paula felt a "classy Santana" in the performance, Simon said it was "original,...
