Benderspink and Benaroya Pictures are teaming to develop a screen adaptation of the post-apocalyptic comic series "Marksmen".
The story is set in a dystopian future America where civil war over oil resources has left the walled city of New San Diego as the last remaining bastion of peace.
Drake McCoy is the best of the city's guards and leads a small but skilled team to stop an invading army from the Lone Star State laying siege to their home in an attempt to steal the city’s energy technology.
Michael Benaroya, David Baxter and Dave Elliott created the comic and Benaroya will produce with J.C. Spink, Chris Bender, and Jake Weiner.

The Weirding Willows Volume 1 (Titan): The literary-mashup-thing has been done many times, most often with rights-free adventure stories of the 19th century, so you can’t blame me for being wary about Dave Elliott’s Weirding Willows, which puts Alice, Peter Rabbit, Dr. Moreau, Mowgli, Frankenstein’s monster, and a slew of other classic characters into a nebulous fantasy setting. Although the backgrounds of the characters are woven together with an impressive sense of imagination, I kept saying in the back of my head, “Again?” Then there were dinosaurs. Okay, I’ll keep reading. Then there were the main characters from my most beloved novel as a child, The Wind In The Willows. You’re catching me, here. And Then… a werewolf. Sold. Done. I’m in. I never claimed not to be a sucker for certain things, and dinosaurs make everything better. 7/10

Public figures beware: your Facebook posts are not private. This is what Dave Elliott, a news anchor for ABC and CBS affiliate Wlox, found out when he decided to post an offensive comment directed at the Lgbt community. “I'm all for the Lgbt community's ongoing fight for equality. I support their fight in every way,” Elliott wrote Thursday. ”But it seems like they've been in the news too much lately. Maybe they should take a short break. Go on gaycation just for the weekend. Being a former 2000Ad reader when I was in high school, there’s something about Alex Horley’s artwork that makes me think I’ve seen Sharky! before even though there’s a good chance I haven’t. Punky-looking, over-muscled, generically handsome – he could be any number of 2000Ad characters who appeared in single issues of Dredd or Slaine. But this theme of a rather derivative character and teenagers is basically what Sharky! is all about.
Sharky is a high school kid who loves reading comics featuring his hero of the same name and then one day, through some weird twist of fate, is able to turn into Sharky and fight monsters. I’d talk about the plot but for the life of me I’m not sure I could recount it. When I read it the first time I wasn’t sure exactly what was happening and, flicking through it now,...

I know we’re never supposed to judge a book by its cover, but we do whether consciously or not, and I certainly did with this one. Just look at it: a semi-naked woman with a piece of cloth barely covering her lady parts, squatting(!), with the title “Monster Massacre” overhead. It’s like an 80s hair metal band cover for an album of songs about drinking behind the bleachers, staying out past curfew and not doing your homework – the stench of adolescence is unfortunately all over this anthology of short comics based around monsters.
Which isn’t to say it’s all bad – put your best foot forward as they say, and this book does just that with a classic comic by legends Jack Kirby and Joe Simon called The Angel of Death. It’s about a small town menaced by a monster in the night and has smatterings...

If you were a sports gamer in the 90′s, chances are that you’re familiar with Mutant League Football. Released by EA in 1993, the game was a modified version of Madden that featured a variety of mutants and monsters in a post-apocalyptic setting.
A number of spinoff games were released, but the original game was never followed up with a sequel. Fans could get what they’ve been hoping for with a new project from the original game’s designer, Michael Mendheim. In our latest Q&A feature, he talks with us about his new project, Mutant Football League:
Thanks for taking the time to talk with us. Many 90′s gamers have fond memories of Mutant League Football and I’m excited to hear about your new project. The first question I think many of our readers will have is: Why now? Can you tell me about your work to revive this franchise?...

Today marked the launch of the "Mutant Football League" Kickstarter, a spiritual successor to EA's 16-bit classic "Mutant League Football" from series creator Michael Mendheim. The Kickstarter campaign, which is seeking $750,000 to complete the game for iOS and Android devices--with stretch goals potentially bringing it to other platforms--resurrects a property that's been out of the public eye for some time now, albeit with a very vocal following.
But why go it alone without EA? And isn't Mendheim courting conflict with the publisher by using a concept (and name) so similar to the original?
First, a little background: EA's "Mutant League Football" was released 20 years ago this month on the Genesis, during the "Mortal Kombat"-era of development. This is when studios, capitalizing on the success of Midway's bloody fighter, began building games around carnage and gore--usually with a sense of humor to soften the impact. Enter "Mutant League Football," which...

Dave Elliott’s A1 continues to be one of the best comics Titan are publishing at the moment. For new readers, A1 is a monthly anthology of 3 on-going comics: The Weirding Willows, where literary characters wander around a strange fantasy landscape; Carpe DIEm, which follows a team of assassins named after the days of the week who fight bad guys with numerous video game references; and Odyssey, where superheroes meet fantasy lit starring a Captain America-esque figure called Glory.
A1 #4, unlike other issues in the series, works better in collected form than as a standalone comic. The Weirding Willows and Odyssey are both great stories but if you’ve not been following along, you’re unlikely to get much from this issue which sees events move along towards a resolution of sorts.
Willows unfortunately does something a lot of mainstream comics does by promoting a character on the cover...

The latest issue of Titan’s excellent anthology series A1 features dinosaurs, Super Mario, and a magic Saddam Hussein. I can’t imagine you’d need more persuading to pick up this comic but if you need it, here it is.
For newcomers to this series, A1 is an anthology series featuring 3 ongoing stories with different creative teams contained within 35 pages of comics. First off, for the price alone you’re getting a better deal than Marvel/DC who, for the same price, will give you fewer pages and if that comic sucks, you’re stuck with it. Here, if you don’t like one story, chances are you’ll like one of the other two. So it’s even better value that all three stories here are awesome.
