Lisa Roberts, who co-founded the band Hole with Courtney Love and Eric Erlandson in 1989, packed her bags and relocated to Ukraine at the outbreak of the country’s war with Russia.
Roberts’ move to Ukraine was revealed in a new interview with The Daily Beast, in which she recalls first being drawn to the Ukrainian cause via the country’s heavy metal community. Once she learned that friends of hers — and members of the Ukrainian metal scene — were in need of dire assistance, she moved to Donbas to serve as the logistics manager for the humanitarian Ngo Road to Relief.
Before joining the front lines in Donbas, the California native had been working for a major company in logistics and felt her skills could be translated to the humanitarian aid efforts needed in Ukraine. She volunteered with Ngo last year to provide aid to Donbas’ ransacked villages, and is now...

Drew Barrymore has been in the spotlight for over four decades, but there are probably still some things you may not know about her, including her dating history. While Barrymore has remained single since ending her marriage to Will Kopelman in April 2016, the 48-year-old actor and mom of two has been vocal about her fondness for falling in love; over the years, Barrymore has dated fellow Hollywood stars like Justin Long, Luke Wilson, and director Spike Jonze, as well as musicians Fabrizio Moretti and Eric Erlandson - and she's even guilty of "ghosting" on Christian Bale after one date back in the '80s!
In a June 2023 interview with Vulture, Barrymore gave an update on her dating life, revealing she's been swiping on the Raya dating app but hasn't been interested. "I was such a love junkie," she recalled. "I was almost never not single."

‘Soaked in Bleach’ Trailer: The Kurt Cobain Death Conspiracy Docudrama Starring That Guy From ‘Lost’
We’ve already had one great documentary spinning theories about Kurt Cobain‘s death (Nick Broomfield’s Kurt & Courtney) and one great dramatization of the last days of the Nirvana frontman (Gus Van Sant’s Last Days), but now there’s a (possibly great?) movie coming out that combines both approaches. Today is the 20th anniversary of when Cobain’s body was found dead, so of course the first trailer for this new docudrama has just arrived online. Titled Soaked in Bleach, it combines interviews with people associated with the case, including private detective Tom Grant, with reenactments featuring actors such as Lost‘s Daniel Roebuck as private detective Tom Grant. Others in the drama side’s cast play Cobain (Tyler Brian), Courtney Love (Sarah Scott), Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson (Kale Clauson), Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan (Tor Brown), Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes (David Daskal), Earth front man Dylan Carlson (August Emerson) and a character...

Courtney Love is reuniting the mid-1990’s-era iteration of Hole. It’s unclear yet if the intention is to record new material or to tour or to do both, but Love told The Quietus that she, Melissa Auf Der Maur, Eric Erlandson and Patty Schemel have been rehearsing new material. “I started playing with Patty and Melissa and Eric, just to see how that was,” she said. “We already played like three or four times in the last week.” Love plans to release a new single, “Wedding Day,” shortly before her May U.K. tour, but she doesn’t mention if the tune is one of the songs she and her former band mates worked on. Auf Der Maur, Erlandson, and Patty Schemel last recorded with Love on 1998’s “Celebrity Skin” before having various falling outs with the singer and breaking up in 2002. Love formed Hole in 1989 with Erlandson. Auf...

Courtney Love is reuniting Hole! The 49-year-old singer has reportedly been doing some low-key jam sessions with her original Hole bandmates Eric Erlandson, Melissa Auf Der Maur and Patty Schemel. "I started playing with Patty and Melissa and Eric, just to see how that was," Love recently told The Quietus. "We already played like three or four times in the last week." The rehearsal news is exciting for Hole fans, who have been wanting new music from the group since they broke up back in 2002 (Hole's last album was 1998's Celebrity Skin). After the foursome went their separate ways over a decade ago, they each have worked on their own separate music projects. In...

This week sees P. David Ebersole's grunge rock documentary Hit So Hard: The Life and Near Death Story of Patty Schemel (2011) finally unleashed in cinemas across the UK. Detailing the life of Hole drummer Patty Schemel, the film takes an unflinching look at her time in one of rock's most notorious and controversial bands, placing Schemel's personal archive footage alongside interviews with her former band mates Eric Erlandson, Melissa Auf der Maur and, of course, Courtney Love. Fortunately, CineVue was able to catch up with bass player Auf der Maur to get her personal take on her time with Hole, life on the road and Ebersole's depiction of one of the most turbulent periods in music history.

Drew Barrymore welcomes her new angel with husband Will Kopelman. They just had their baby girl Olive Barrymore Kopelman.
Does the name sound familiar? Well, it's not unusual that the name may sound familiar because Drew actually voiced the character of Olive in a certain TV special back in 1999. It was for the show Olive, the Other Reindeer. It should be noted that Drew once wanted to have a daughter but of a different name. Back in the day when she was still dating musician Eric Erlandson, she wanted the name Ruby Daffodil.
But come on, you guys! Olive is definitely a better choice than that. So, congrats to the lovely couple!

Drew Barrymore's had babies on the brain for a long time. Back in 1995, the now-pregnant actress told Rolling Stone she had a name picked out for her future child. "My daughter will be named Ruby Daffodil," Barrymore, who was then dating Hole musician Eric Erlandson, told the mag. She also revealed she wanted two kids, "a boy and a girl." But in 17 years, a lot can change. Barrymore, now 37, revealed on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno earlier this year that she and husband Will Kopelman will "start with one [child and] see how it goes." Somehow we think this former wild child will make a fantastic mom, no matter what she ends up naming her little one!

Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson recently told Fuse TV that in the months leading up to his death in April 1994, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain had been working on a solo album.
"[Kurt] was headed in a direction that was really cool. It would have been his White Album," says Erlandson, referring to the famous Beatles record. "That's really what he was going towards, a solo album but working with different people ... I was really excited about some of the stuff he was working on. I got to see him play it in front of me. That's why I was really sad when he died. He was cut short. Who knows where this music would have gone?"

Rare home video of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, his then-wife Courtney Love and their infant daughter Frances Bean Cobain has surfaced online. In the footage,Cobain and Love sing "Stinking of You," an unreleased track.
The footage was originally part of the widely anticipated Patty Schemel documentary, "Hit So Hard," which has been showing at film festivals around the country.
In the clip, viewers get an intimate look at the tumultuous couple and their young daughter, as Cobain plays with young Frances throughout the video. It's a rare, happy look at the tormented artist and his family.
Sadly, Cobain would take his own life on April 5, 1994. Released in 1991, Nirvana's seminal album Nevermind has since sold over 10 million copies, and Cobain has been hailed as one of the pioneering voices of the '90s.

Kurt Cobain was preparing songs for a solo album in the time leading up to his 1994 suicide, according to former Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson. Erlandson, the former bandmate of Cobain's widow Courtney Love, told Fuse TV that the deceased Nirvana frontman was "headed in a direction that was really cool. In the 15 years since Kurt Cobain's death, there has been endless speculation as to what musical directions he may have taken with Nirvana had he not taken his own life (or whatever theory you may prefer). Was Kurt Cobain working on a solo album before his death? Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson recently told Fuse TV that the Nirvana frontman had recorded multiple demos before his death in 1994. These demos have never been released.
"He was headed in a direction that was really cool," Erlandson said. "It would have been his 'White Album'. That's really what he was going towards, a solo album but working with different people ... Erlandson later revealed that Cobain also recorded a cover of a well-known song, which has never been released. However, the former Hole guitarist wouldn’t confess which song Cobain covered.

Days after Courtney Love's gross private tweets about her and Kurt Cobain's daughter Frances Bean supposedly hooking up with Dave Grohl went public, Love took to Williamsburg's Public Assembly for an impromptu reunion with the mid-nineties Hole lineup of Patty Schemel, Melissa Auf der Maur, and Eric Erlandson. It was the group's first time together since 1999, and there's a clip documenting it all. Love shows up around 1:27. That long scream is definitely her. Then they play two solid songs — 1994's “Miss World” and their take on the Wipers's "Over The Edge" — starting at the four-minute mark. If you had any inkling that being with her original bandmates would make Love any less a diva-slash-crazy-person, now you don't have to think that anymore.

Patty Schemel is best remembered as the drummer of the alternative rock group Hole, fronted by erstwhile alt-queen rocker, now-notorious loudmouth Courtney Love. For top level context, Schemel laid the thunderous beat on both of Hole’s most popular and well-known records, including 1994’s Live Through This, which was released just four days after frontwoman Courtney Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, was found dead in their home. This is all well-documented. What only the most hardcore of rock aficionados will remember was that Schemel’s drum parts on 1997’s follow-up record Celebrity Skin were replaced by a session drummer at the behest of producer Michael Beinhorn (knob-twiddler for records like Soundgarden's Superunknown, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Mother's Milk and Grave Dancers Union by Soul Asylum).

Hole made it to the Museum of Modern Art in New York Monday evening for the debut of director P. David Ebersole's New Directors/New Films doc, "Hit So Hard." Courtney Love, Melissa Auf Der Maur (right), Eric Erlandson and drummer Patty Schemel had their first reunion in 13 years for the film, which is a "pull-no-punches portrait of the hell-and-back life of Schemel." The film includes some amazing early footage ...

When most think of rock docs, it’s likely VH1′s award-winning Behind the Music pops into their mind. Blending a featured band’s comprehensive history with a fast-paced narrative and popular music, it was a documentary series that was accessible and entertaining to the ardent fans and newbies alike. P. David Ebersole’s Hit So Hard is not so inclusive, favoring a storytelling method that assumes the film’s audience will be devotees of the bygone grunge age – or at the least deeply fascinated by Kurt and Courtney. Anyone else might struggle to follow the film’s tenuous thread.
Hit So Hard focuses on the roller-coaster-like life story of drummer Patty Schemel, an outcast turned struggling artist turned rock star turned literal crack whore turned mentor. It’s a compelling tale and Schemel is engrossing as she openly reveals her highs and lows with a self-deprecating sense of humor and utter lack of self-pity.

Singer Courtney Love will reunite with the original members of her rock band Hole on Monday, March 28 for their first public outing in more than a decade. The rocker will hit the red carpet with bassist Melissa Auf der Maur and guitarist Eric Erlandson to show their support for one-time drummer Patty Schemel at the New York premiere of "Hit So Hard", a documentary about her tough life.
The Hole stars last appeared together in front of the cameras in 1998. The band split in 2002, although Love courted controversy when she went on to release her 2010 album "Nobody's Daughter" under the group's name.
"Hit So Hard", directed by P. David Ebersole, will be unveiled at the Museum of Modern Art as part of the 40th Annual New Directors/New Films festival, and all four former Hole members will take part in a special question-and-answer session following the screening.

Attention former riotgrrls and dudettes who were all about the seminal '90s groundbreaking band - the members of Hole are reuniting. But don't start clipping barrettes into your matted hair and pulling your tattered, silk nightgowns out of storage just yet. Courtney Love, lead guitarist Eric Erlandson and Montreal bass player Melissa auf der Mar are getting together to screen a documentary on Hole drummer Patty Schemel called Hit So Hard, named after a Hole song from their solid 1997 album, Celebrity Skin.
The group's original members will gather at New York's Museum of Modern Art to watch L.A-based TV and independent film director David Ebersole's doc, screening as part of the Film Society of Lincoln Center's annual New Directors/New Films series. The foursome will also sit down with Ebersole for what will no doubt be a candid Q&A afterwards.

Director: P. David Ebersole Writers: P. David Ebersole, Todd Hughes Featuring: Courtney Love, Eric Erlandson, Gina Schock, Kate Schellenbach, Kurt Cobain, Melissa Auf Der Maur, Nina Gordon, Patty Schemel, Phranc, Sarah Vowell Some of you might be asking the same question I asked myself when I first received the press release for Hit So Hard: The Life & Near‐Death Story of Drummer Patty Schemel -- why would I want to watch a documentary about the drummer of Hole? Nothing personal about Schemel, but she is not the first person who comes to mind when I think of Hole. Knowing absolutely nothing about Schemel, I figured that it would not hurt anything for me to give Hit So Hard a chance. Full Disclosure: I am not a fan of Hole (I am more of an early Nirvana -- Bleach and Nevermind -- man myself), so I am probably coming...

A veteran director and producer of cable television (Wicked Wicked Games, Desire), P. David Ebersole’s rock doc Hit So Hard is a typical booze-and-drug-filled profile of his friend and collaborator Patty Schemel, the original drummer for the seminal grunge band Hole, who fell on hard times after the always controversial rock band’s heyday.
Filmmaker: How did you first conceive of Hit So Hard?
Ebersole: My friend Patty Schemel brought me a gold box, filled with 40-plus hours of never-before-seen video footage from when she was on tour with her band Hole. She shot the tape on Hi-8 and was afraid it would disintegrate soon, so she came asking for advice about how to best preserve it. Soon, the two of us were transferring the tapes and watching the footage together. Patty, a great raconteur,...

Anybody who listened to Hole during their peak knows that the band was dominated by frontwoman Courtney Love. Her personality was so outsized and her voice so big and distinct that there was little room for anybody else in the band to really shine. But Hole were an incredibly efficient rock machine, and a lot of that was because of the savage precision of drummer Patty Schemel. Drummers tend to get short shrift in any band (save for iconic singularities like Keith Moon, John Bonham or Neil Peart), so it's about time that one of the more talented members of the time-keeping fraternity gets the attention she deserves.
That attention comes in the form of "Hit So Hard: The Life and Near Death of Patty Schemel," a documentary about Schemel's life and career behind the kit. The film, which borrows its title from a song from Hole's 1998 album Celebrity Skin,...

Former Hole bassist Melissa Auf der Maur has slammed Courtney Love's decision to resurrect the band without her, insisting she is "surprised" and "disappointed" by the move. In 2009, Love announced plans to bring the Celebrity Skin group back to the stage, plotting gigs in North America and Europe, but the news didn't go down well with the singer's former bandmates Eric Erlandson and Auf der Maur.
Erlandson alleged Love had signed a contract banning her from using the name Hole without him, while Auf der Maur claimed she had been left out of the star's plans. Love recently announced a string of Hole gigs, hinting she had settled her dispute with Erlandson - but Auf der Maur admits she was shocked to discover the concerts had been booked without her.
She tells Spinnermusic.co.uk, "I want to make it clear that I have nothing to do with this series of concerts.

Courtney Love has reportedly resolved the dispute over her decision to resurrect Hole - hinting she's come to a financial arrangement which will allow her to use the rock band's name. Last year 2009, Love announced plans to bring the Celebrity Skin group back to the stage, plotting gigs in North America and Europe.
But the news didn't go down well with fellow founding member Eric Erlandson, who alleged Love had signed a contract that banned her from using the Hole tag for any future ventures without his permission. Love has now spoken out about the drama, insisting the tour will go ahead under the moniker but without Erlandson and Melissa Auf der Maur, who made up the original trio. And she's suggested the dispute has been settled through her legal team.
She tells NME.com, "It is Hole, yes of course. How do I do this? It is just because it is,...

Courtney Love is hitting the road with an all-new line up for her band Hole in the group's first live concerts since 1999. The rocker founded Hole with Eric Erlandson in 1989 and formed a trio with Melissa Auf der Maur.
The band split in 2002 but Love revealed plans last year 2009 to release new material under the Hole name, without Erlandson and Auf der Maur. She unveiled her new line-up last week, introducing fans to guitarist Micko Larkin, bassist Shawn Saily and drummer Stu Fischer.
The revamped Hole will go on tour in Europe in February with stops in London, Milan, Italy, and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Last summer, July 2009, Love was embroiled in a dispute with her former pal Erlandson over the rights to the band name, the latter claiming Kurt Cobain's widow was banned from releasing music under Hole after allegedly signing over ownership to Erlandson.
He told Spin magazine, "We have a contract.

Like the drummer's chair in Spinal Tap, the guitar player position in the Red Hot Chili Peppers has always been a mysterious black hole. The band has been together since 1983 and have morphed from snot-nosed skate punks to a full-scale stadium rock monster. They've been on hiatus, but recently got back together to talk about new material. Except they are short one member, as guitarist John Frusciante announced that he has left the band. It's the second time Frusciante has left the band (the first time was in 1992 at the height of the band's Blood Sugar Sex Magik-era popularity).
All told, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have had seven total guitarists in their history. Original axeman Hillel Slovak died of an overdose in 1988 and was followed by DeWayne McKnight, Frusciante, Arik Marshall, Dave Navarro and Frusciante again. (Guitarist Jack Sherman actually recorded the parts for the band's self-titled first album...

The rocker – the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain – went to New York’s famous Scores club earlier this week, but as the male musicians enjoyed the girls’ performances, Courtney reminisced about her own days as an erotic dancer. A source told the New York Post newspaper: “Courtney brought in a group of guys who all looked like Keith Richards, some of whom were in her band. She was saying she used to be a stripper and appreciated what the girls do. Courtney left in a limousine with a female friend after 45 minutes, leaving the band to enjoy themselves." Courtney decided to reform Hole earlier this year. The wild rocker ditched plans to release a solo album after deciding the tracks for the proposed record were more suited to her old band. Courtney replaced founding Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson with British musician Micko Larkin - who previously was a member...

A Los Angeles judge has offered Courtney Love the chance to avoid another court trial by giving her until February to reach a settlement with a law firm over unpaid legal fees. The troubled former Hole rocker was initially told by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Gerald Rosenberg she had until Thursday to agree a deal with Manatt, Phelps And Phillips, but during a brief hearing he decided to extend the bargaining period. However, Rosenberg warned Love he'll send the case to trial if a settlement isn't struck by February 9. Manatt, Phelps and Phillips, whose clients include Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Hilary Duff, sued Love last November to recoup costs for representing the singer in contractual issues along with her former Hole bandmate Eric Erlandson and Dollhead, Incorporated, which owns the exclusive recording services of the group's members. Love has appeared in court several times in the past few months on a variety of charges including assault, drug possession and cheating a travel company.
