- In late 1999, along with Vince Russo, left the WWF to write for Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling.
- While working for WCW, he portrayed an on-air character called Oklahoma, which was a parody of WWF announcer Jim Ross. He wore a black cowboy hat, pulled faces (making light of Ross' Bell's Palsy), and was always seen carrying a bottle of barbecue sauce with him (in mockery of J.R.'s actual brand of barbecue sauce).
- Ed Ferarra signed on as color commentator for Jerry Jarrett's upstart NWA Total Nonstop Action promotion. In August 2002, Ed left TNA to pursue other opportunities.
