Star Wars producer Lucasfilm released a statement Friday denying rumors that future installments of the space saga might feature a CGI version of Princess Leia portrayer Carrie Fisher following the actress' December death.
"We don't normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address," Lucasfilm wrote on the official Star Wars site. "We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher's performance as Princess or General Leia Organa."

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the House of Mouse has assembled its Star Wars brain trust – namely Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow and Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, among others – to plan out the future of Carrie Fisher’s Leia Organa in Episode VIII and beyond.
Fisher, who so tragically passed away late last month, has already completed her scenes for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, teeing up a potential reunion between General Leia and her wayward sibling, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). If THR’s sources are to be believed, that’s not the only landmark meeting set to occur, as Fisher’s character will also confront Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), though rumor has it that said encounter will be reserved until Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX.

Terrence Malick has never been the timeliest of filmmakers, though in the last three years alone, the director has released The Tree of Life and To the Wonder while Knight of Cups and an untitled project he filmed back-to-back with it await release.
This is all ignoring the fact that Malick’s project The Voyage of Time has been in production for over half a decade, and unsurprisingly, investors Seven Seas Partnership have had enough sitting around while the director nurtured other projects, filing a lawsuit against him and his production company Sycamore Pictures for breach of contract, THR reports. Under the terms of the suit, they not only want their $3.3 million back, but also all intellectual properties related to the project and the lost profits the film would have made.
Though Malick is a firmly-respected filmmaker in Hollywood, it’s hard to blame the investors for having lost patience with the notoriously methodical director.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards ended up being one of the most entertaining Academy Award shows that I've seen in years, even though films I wanted to win didn't. I was rooting for Martin Scorsese and Hugo this year, but I knew that The Artist would end up taking home a majority of the big awards. In the end, each one of these films took home 5 Awards, Hugo took home the more technical ones though. I think it was a pretty easy year to predict the winners.
It was great to see Billy Crystal back up on stage; he really did a great job bringing light, fun entertainment that everyone could enjoy. Crystal was awesome and one of the best parts of the show. The guy is classic comedy. He helped bring back everything that the Oscars should be.
Here's the full list of nominees with the winners in bold.

This morning, Jennifer Lawrence and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominations for the 84th Academy Awards. The winners will be announced during the televised ceremony on February 26, 2012. Let’s get right into the nominations:
Best Picture
The Artist
The Descendants
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
The Help
Hugo
Midnight in Paris
Moneyball
The Tree of Life
War Horse
Snubs:
Bridesmaids
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
The Ides of March
50/50
Shame
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II
The Artist and The Descendants may stack up on top alphabetically, but they’re neatly placed in this two-horse race with the B&W, silent era drama in the easy lead. An upset is possible, I suppose, but a Descendants win would be more upsetting since its one of the weakest in Payne’s career. Extremely Loud & Yada Yada comes as a huge surprise though. Chock it...

This morning the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominations for the 84th Academy Awards. Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone, The Hunger Games) read the new Oscar nods, with by Academy President Tom Sherak. The big nominees were The Descendants, The Artist, and Hugo, all which come as no surprise. But Moneyball scored four big nominations, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy also walked away with a couple big nods, and The Muppets is now Oscar-nominated. The Adventures of Tintin was shut out of the Best Animated Film category, and Andy Serkis did not end up with a nomination for his work in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. As is so often the case with the Oscars, you can make a list of snubs that is almost longer than the nomination list. Indie faves got nothing: Michael Fassbender's performance in Shame is not recognized, and Martha Marcy May Marlene...

Not much is known about Terrence Malick’s upcoming film, The Tree Of Life, since the director prefers to remain secretive about all of his projects. The trailer released just before the end of 2010 was just enough to whet our appetites and from what little we saw, the film looks incredible. We caught a glimpse of the usual beautiful cinematography that normally accompanies the director’s films, and enough to understand that the story follows the life of a father in the 1950s (Brad Pitt) and his son Jack , played as an adult by Sean Penn. Blogs exploded with comparisons to Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain, but what we didn’t see in the trailer was dinosaurs. However, according to The Playlist, VFX artist Mike Fink said in an interview last year that, “We’re just starting work on a project for Terrence Malick, animating dinosaurs, the film is The Tree of Life,...

Two years, almost to this exact date, we reported that Terrence Malick‘s The Tree of Life may have dinosaurs and may be shown in IMAX. This was back when it was a rumored two-part saga, with the documentary Voyage of Time accompanying the film. It was thought that the documentary would surround all of the universe footage and that The Tree of Life would be the family story. If you’ve seen the trailer or read any other reports, we know now it’s just a single (2 hour and 18 minute) film. We now have some more details in an interview Little White Lies conducted with visual effects supervisor Dan Glass, who has also worked with Christopher Nolan on Batman Begins and The Wachowskis on The Matrix Reloaded.

I just found out that Clash of the Titans will be released in 3-D and it will also get a new release date to facilitate the process that will convert it up from standard 2-D to the 3-D format.
We first heard that this might be happening a couple weeks ago, and a source let me know exclusively that the film might have to be pushed back a bit to make everything work out. I guessed April 9th because Warner Bros. has The Losers on that weekend, so it could easily do a switcheroo on those two films. Not so. I'm told that new date is April 2nd and Prime Focus, which did some work on Avatar, is handling the 3-D transfer.

The furious way that the beautiful free flowing style which Terrence Malick has curated over his career is talked about often disguises the fact that he has made just four features and one (some people say two), rare as hens teeth, shorts. So, after only a hand full of features in 37 years what is it about the director that has celluloid lovers chomping at the bit. Until very recently there were only 2 published interviews with the modest director in existence and only a handful of photographs. His stubbornness with the press is legendary. His Tom Sawyer like trademark themes of innocents somehow lost within harsh mother nature, the beautifully paced editing and pitch perfect scores, his poetic and naturalistic voice overs and consistently jaw dropping cinematography has helped the film maker achieve a level of awe and mystery perhaps only reserved on a comparable level for one Stanley Kubrick. Empire magazine spoke to VFX artist Mike Fink about the upcoming "The Tree of Life" film, starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. Here is what Fink had to say: [via HollywoodElsewhere] "We're just starting work on a project for Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, The New World), animating dinosaurs, the film is 'The Tree of Life,' starring Brad Pitt and Sean Penn. It'll be showing in IMAX -- so the dinosaurs will actually be life size -- and the shots of the creatures will be long and lingering." Plot: "The Tree of Life" traces the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy in the Midwest, Jack, one of three brothers. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother does, with the eyes of his soul. She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father tries to teach his son the world's way, of putting oneself first.
