While everyone was buzzing about big releases from Frank Ocean, Fiona Apple, Mumford & Sons and Taylor Swift, you might have missed some must-listens. Here's what you should know about, and why:
___
Grizzly Bear, "Shields" (Warp)
Yes, iTunes named Grizzly Bear's "Shields" the best album of 2012. Yes, the critics adored it. And yes, it debuted in the Top 10.
But did it earn any Grammy nominations? No. Is it selling well? No. Have you heard it? Probably not.
And that needs to change.
"Shields" is a semimasterpiece that feels both old and new – and in the best ways possible. Anchored by the voices of Edward Droste and Daniel Rossen, this Brooklyn, N.Y.-based foursome has created a disc that is genre-defying and consistent throughout.
The 10 tracks that make up "Shields" are drum-filled and smoky, and half the songs are more than five minutes long. That's a bit unusual, but it's...

"My Bloody Valentine" and "Drive Angry 3D" collaborators Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer wrote the script for "Halloween 3D," which was slated for this fall, except Dimension Films' Michael Myers tale has been killed off for now.
The 3D entry in the popular slasher franchise has been bumped from the box office schedule with no news of a future release date. The story picked up after Rob Zombie's "Halloween II" film and centered on Laurie Strode in a mental hospital. Supposedly there was a lead part for "Creepshow" actor Tom Atkins.
Michael might be stopped for now, but there's more terror waiting for you past the break in this week's Horror Bites.

Among the comic book movies coming in 2012 is the Superman revamp Man of Steel, which has just added another cast member.
Harry Lennix (pictured) - known chiefly for his roles as Commander Lock in the second and third Matrix movies and Boyd Langton in Joss Whedon's Dollhouse series - will be playing a military officer called General Swanwick, according to Variety.
While we don't know just how Lennix's character will impact the storyline, we may now have the answer to what Batman TV series icon Adam West has been doing near a UK filming location for The Dark Knight Rises.
Earlier rumors suggested the actor would make a cameo appearance in Christopher Nolan's third Batman flick, largely because he'd been seen at or near Wollaton Hall, Nottingham, which is doubling for Wayne Manor in the upcoming film.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Warner Bros. are to turn Image Comics’ recent series Undying Love into a feature film with Chris Bender, Stephen L’Heaureux and J.C. Spink attached to produce.
Set in a mood-evoking and cinematic Hong Kong, ‘Undying Love’ presents a simple concept: hardened American ex-soldier, John Sargent, has fallen in love with a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei. The only thing keeping the star-crossed lovers apart is the small issue of Mei being vampire. Yup… it’s another vamp love story.
Determined to ensure the possibility of a future together, Sargent sets out with Mei on a journey to free her from this curse and make her human once more. Further complicating their desperate situation, their unlikely human/vampire partnership has piqued the interests of other strange beings drawn from Chinese folklore where our hero must save Mei from the vampire who created her, and...

Warner Bros. plans to develop Image Comics' series Undying Love into a feature film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Vampire stories are all the rage and it looks like Warner Bros. thinks we're ready for another one.
The comic, written and illustrated by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, is a horror-action tale that consists of vampire myths and Chinese folklore. It is set in modern-day Hong Kong and explores the love between an ex-soldier and a beautiful Chinese woman named Mei.
One problem: Mei is a vampire. So the soldier sets out to destroy the vampire who turned her in order to save the love of his life.
Coker and Freedman will write the screenplay for the film based on their own comic.

Comic book movies and vampire stories have dominated Hollywood of late, so what happens when you combine the two into one tale? If you're the folks at Warner Bros., you get "Undying Love."
Heat Vision reports that the WB, Stephen L'Heureux and Benderspink (run by Chris Bender and J.C. Spink) are producing an adaptation of Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman's recently launched Image Comics series "Undying Love," a vampire tale with all the blood and romance you might expect, but also with a healthy heaping of Chinese monster lore for good measure.
"Undying Love" starts out as a fairly reasonable and relatable "boy falls for girl" love story. Except in this case, the boy is a former soldier, and the girl just so happens to be a blood-craving vampire. In order for the two of them to be together, the soldier must confront the vampire who created the love of his life,...

Warner Bros. has aquired "Undying Love," a comic book series created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman, who will also write the big-screen adaptation, says Heat Vision. Image Comics is the original publisher of the mini-series.
In terms of storyline, "Love" focuses on an ex-soldier who falls in love with a vampire girl. Alas, they can't be together unless he faces the vampire who created her, as well as his army of monsters ruling the Hong Kong underworld.

Just when we thought we were nearing the end of Hollywood.s vampire craze, with the Twilight saga drawing to a close and fewer undead projects in development, Warner Bros. dives back in to the blood-red waters for the potential adaptation of a graphic novel (no pun intended). The studio grabbed the rights to Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman.s Undying Love, an eight-part mini-series that Image Comics released earlier this year. Their story blends elements of traditional vampire lore with the bloody vengeance of the Hong Kong action genre, centering on a protagonist who must defeat countless enemies to win the heart of the woman he loves. The hero, if you can call him that, is John Sargent, a former U.S. soldier who falls for Mei, a vampire. Now in order to be with her, Sargent must eliminate the vampire who originally sired Mei . a bloodsucker who just...

Warner Bros. is jumping in on the vampire action by picking up the rights to a comic book miniseries from Image Comics called Undying Love. The plan of course is to adapt the comic into a feature film.

Forbes has published an intellectually daring new editorial entitled, “Strip Joe Biden of His Motorcade?” In a little more than a year, “Vice-President Joe Biden’s motorcade has been involved in at least five crashes,” writes Daniel Freedman in his “Freed Thinking” blog. “That’s an unusually high number for such a motorcade.” (There are no specific figures tallying the incidents of other vice-presidential motorcades.) While Freedman allows that President Obama’s mandate that federal employees avoid texting while driving is “commendable,” this Biden business is simply disagreeable. “Whether distracted driving or something else is causing the high number of incidents involving Mr. Biden’s motorcade, it’s still dangerous and unacceptable—and it’s setting the wrong example.” Or, Biden’s driver could be denying medical coverage to patients based on preexisting conditions while manning the motorcade—despite the White House’s forbiddance of this activity, too. That also...
