"I don't think you can compare pieces of art to each other," Magnussen told Games Radar after saying the original is one of his favorite movies. "I adored working with everyone in this. Rideback was the producing house making this film, and I did Aladdin with them. Again, it's a story about connection and a kid trying to find a friend, and all you can do is approach a project like that with love. I am so grateful and honored to be a part of that project."

Movies like Project X showcase wild parties and unbreakable youth friendships over the course of one chaotic night. The film revitalized the partying subgenre by playing with teen comedy tropes and adapting conventions to a found footage style. Project X's influence on pop culture has been significant, inspiring real-life teens to throw wild parties and offering a unique viewing experience.
Movies like Project X deliver the wild parties and the unbreakable friendship of youth. The 2012 film takes place over the course of one night while following Thomas, Costa, and J.B., three unpopular high school seniors committed to throwing the party of their lives. What seems like the trio's final attempt to do something remarkable during their school years quickly goes off the rails, with the party growing increasingly absurd and out of hand.
Project X wasn't the first comedy about non-stop partying, but it helped revitalize the subgenre.

As the great Renata Klein, played by Laura Dern on HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” once said, “I will not, not be rich!” And very soon, we may be rich in more content from the Emmy award-winning series.
Regarding a third season of the hit HBO drama, Reese Witherspoon told Variety on the carpet of the 81st Golden Globes in January, “We are working on it. [Nicole Kidman] and I have been working on it a lot.”
Well, IndieWire caught up with star Kathryn Newton at the 17th Annual Women in Film Oscar Nominees Party on Friday, March 8 at Catch Steak LA. Newton, of course, plays Abigail Carson, the daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Adam Scott’s characters Madeline Martha Mackenzie and Ed Mackenzie. We could not help but ask her if she has been hearing anything in her orbit about a third installment.

Zack Galifianakis suggests that making Hangover 4 an animated, family-friendly film could breathe new life into the franchise. The Hangover movies faced criticism for repeating the same storylines and straying from what made the original great, but an animated approach could offer a fresh take. The popularity of R-rated animated content, such as shows like Bojack Horseman and Big Mouth, suggests that there is a market for adult animation, potentially making Hangover 4 successful.
The Hangover franchise is seemingly on hiatus with no new movie in development, but Zack Galifianakis's wild Hangover 4 plan could save it. The Hangover was released in 2009 and became a phenomenal hit. It wasn't completely original, as it had the tried-and-true premise of a group of friends who have to retrace their steps the morning after an outrageous night. However, the film was laugh-out-loud funny, featured instantly iconic characters, and a cast that clearly had chemistry. Despite not being influential in many ways,...

Winner is a biographical dramedy based on the life of Reality Winner, the Nsa contractor who exposed Russian interference in the 2016 election. The film explores the full life of Reality, from her youth to her whistleblowing act, and balances sardonic and sincere tones. The director and cast members hope the film will engage young people and prompt them to consider their role in politics and activism.
Sundance Film Festival dabbles in dramatic films and documentaries alike, but Winner straddles the line between both. Filmmaker Susanna Fogel's latest effort is based on the life of Reality Winner, the Nsa contractor from Texas who blew the whistle on Russia’s hacking of the 2016 election and was punished severely for it. Tasked with embodying Reality is Fogel's frequent collaborator Emilia Jones, best known for Cat Person and the Oscar-winning Coda.

American translator Reality Winner is probably better known in Europe than the U.S., thanks in part to Tina Satter’s extraordinary arthouse film Reality (2023), which dramatized the 25-year-old Texas translator’s arrest in 2017 using the verbatim transcripts of her interactions with the FBI.
Winner, a funny and surprisingly powerful biopic directed and cowritten by Susanna Fogel, will go quite a long way towards raising her profile back home.
By no means as controversial as previous whistleblowers Edward Snowden and Julian Assange — all she did really was photocopy a piece of paper and send it to a fringe-left website — Reality Winner somehow became a punching bag for the American government, and the disproportionate punishment for her crime could give this film traction in an election year that is being fought more than ever before on a battlefield where principles are the first casualty.

The U.S. government decided to make an example of Reality Winner, giving the former Nsa translator a five-year prison sentence. So it’s only fair that director Susanna Fogel should be able to make an example of her too — only this time, to very different ends. “Winner” is well acted, well told and … well, a tough sell to people tired of politics. It’s not a typical whistleblower movie, like “The Insider” or “Official Secrets” (both excellent), but more of a prickly character portrait, imbued with humor and a headstrong sense of defiance.
Let’s get this out of the way up front: Reality Winner has an unusual name, one that has proven ironic (as well as fodder for countless talk-show comics) since her act of defiance was made public. Last year, Tina Satter’s superb experimental indie “Reality” stuck to the facts of her crime, relying on the official...

In 2018, a judge sentenced Reality Winner to more than five years in prison for leaking information about Russian interference in the 2016 United States presidential election. Judge J. Randall Hall wanted to make an example of the former Nsa translator, who informed Americans of what their government preferred to keep hidden. Winner was 26 years old at the time and received the longest sentence in the country’s history for “an unauthorized disclosure to the media.”
Susanna Fogel’s latest film tries to make a different example of the former federal employee. Winner shapes the somber material of its subject’s life into a jaunty coming-of-age story. It builds a profile of Reality, played here by Emilia Jones (Coda), as a staunchly humanitarian figure who wanted to dedicate her life to service. That ambition finds an odd home in the U.S. military. The screenplay — a collaboration between Fogel and journalist Kerry Howley...

Last May, Bobbi Althoff paid $300 to change her life forever.
As a parody account on TikTok, Bobbi Althoff knew her dream of making the transition to a celebrity interviewer was missing one key component: celebrities. So she put out a request to her followers: she would give $300 to whoever could connect her to a famous person willing to be on her comedy podcast. Kerry Howley, a screenwriter, author and essayist, has signed with Black Bear for representation. The news comes as Howley is about to make waves at Sundance, where “Winner,” a comedic coming-of-age story that she wrote, is going to debut. Howley adapted the story from her own New York Magazine profile on Reality Winner, an Air Force vet and Nsa translator who leaked an intelligence report about Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections. The film is directed by Susanna Fogel (“Cat Person”). It stars Emilia Jones, Connie Britton and Zach Galifianakis. “Winner” will debut in Sundance’s Premieres section.
Howley authored the non-fiction book “Bottom’s Up and The Devil Laughs,” which was recently picked as a New York Times 2023 Top Ten Book of the Year and a Vanity Fair Best Book of the Year. She is currently a staff writer at New York Magazine, most recently contributing the cover...

Whenever awards season comes around, we start to see a lot of the same movies appear on Top 10 lists from critics or in the roster of nominees from the many Hollywood organizations that vote on year-end cinematic greatness. Whether they're critics circles from around the country, the various guilds for writers, directors, producers, actors, and other filmmaking departments, or the big show from the Academy Awards, there are always a handful of titles that garner attention across the board.
Some would have you believe this happens because critics and members of Hollywood at large are afraid to go against the grain and adopt a groupthink mentality, which is a big reason why so many general audiences see Rotten Tomatoes as more of an entity representative of all critics as opposed to a review aggregator trying to generalize many voices. But perhaps it's because groups of seasoned filmgoers come to recognize...

Alan and Mr. Chow were funnier in the first Hangover movie, with smaller roles and fewer lines. The success of The Hangover trilogy helped reshape Todd Philips' career as a comedy director. Zach Galifianakis admitted that one Hangover movie was enough and that ending the franchise sooner was the right decision.
Although The Hangover trilogy is fondly remembered as one of the best comedy franchises in recent years, re-watching the movies proves they had their fair share of flaws. The Hangover was a commercial juggernaut but, surprisingly for an R-rated comedy movie, the movie also proved a success with critics. Upon its 2009 release, reviewers raved about the perfect comedic chemistry shared by The Hangover’s cast, its inventive and original premise, and its superb pacing. Even over a decade later, it is still easy to see these qualities when re-watching the original movie.

Jon Hamm's strong comedic acting chops shine in films like "Keeping Up with the Joneses" and "Tag," where he adds humor and chemistry to the ensemble cast. Hamm's versatility as an actor is evident in his dramatic performances, such as in "Baby Driver," where he delivers a sinister and intense portrayal as the secondary antagonist, Buddy. Hamm's recent roles in television series like "The Morning Show" and "Fargo" showcase his ability to captivate audiences with his on-screen presence and chemistry with co-stars.

It feels like Tim Robinson sprung to fame overnight with his sketch series I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. The program showcases Robinson's unique brand of humor, which is a reinvigorating fragrance of a rarely touched style of comedy. Absurdism has been around for some time in movies and television, with some of the more mainstream influences being Tim and Eric: Awesome Show, Great Job! And comedians-turned-actors like Zach Galifianakis. As popular as they are, it's not often given an outlet aside from network blocks like Adult Swim or studios like Funny or Die. Even then, it's just as rare that the shows that clear the networks actually lean into the more pure end of absurdism. It's equally refreshing when a new generation of creators within the genre receives the green light in the present day, which brings us to Tim Robinson. While the Second City alum's fame is still relatively new,...

Bradley Cooper's success in directing serious dramas makes him the perfect candidate to revive The Hangover franchise. Cooper's attachment to The Hangover 4 would greatly increase its chances of being made, given his directorial achievements. Directing Hangover 4 would allow Cooper to showcase a new side of his directing abilities and demonstrate his versatility as a filmmaker.
With two critically acclaimed dramas under his belt, Bradley Cooper is the ideal candidate to direct the next installment in one comedy franchise. Gallons of charisma and the Hollywood good looks to match quickly qualified Bradley Cooper as ideal leading actor material. Cooper got his start in comedy projects like Sex and The City and the 2001 cult classic Wet Hot American Summer, but his true breakthrough came with 2009’s The Hangover, which saw Cooper wield his roguish charm as the sleazy yet likable Phil.

The Hangover franchise shouldn't receive another sequel despite its initial success and the recent interest shown by Bradley Cooper. The original film's success stemmed from its unique premise and the sequels failed to recapture its magic. Even with the original cast on board, director Todd Phillips may not be interested in returning to The Hangover franchise. Phillips has moved on to more serious films, making a return to the comedy series a regression for him. The Hangover sequels were neither critically nor commercially acclaimed, failing to recreate the original film's magic. Continuing the story would only further diminish the impact of the original and do the franchise no favors. Another sequel would be a bad idea.

Many movies don't rely on a script and instead trust the talents of their cast to improvise, resulting in memorable scenes. Between Two Ferns: The Movie, Best In Show, Coherence, and This is Spinal Tap all utilized improvisation to varying degrees. Improvisation in these films allowed for more realistic performances, enhanced chemistry between actors, and added charm and authenticity to the movies.
Unlike popular belief, not all movies rely on a script, and there are many great movies that trusted their casts’ talents and didn’t need a script.
