When it comes to Wheel of Fortune, Pat Sajak and Vanna White may be the faces of the iconic game show, but it’s the players who are the big winners. With the 8,000th episode of the long-running series airing on Friday, May 24, we thought it was time to find out: What’s it really like to play Wheel? Read on as four former contestants open up about their experiences. Brenda Gallagher (Season 34) Remember When… the Las Vegas resident and Air Force veteran enthusiastically (and fittingly) solved a Song Title puzzle of “The Stars and Stripes Forever” and then crushed her final bonus round by guessing “My Happy Place”? She may be the only player to have ever fallen to their knees and kissed Sajak’s shoes, but the still-ebullient Gallagher stands by her reaction. “Wheel of Fortune is my happy place!” Instant Fan Club The internet immediately fell in...

Oasis will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their landmark 1994 debut, Definitely Maybe, with a fresh reissue that unearths the album’s initial, scrapped recording session and other outtakes.
Definitely Maybe (30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) combines the 2014 remaster of the LP — from the 20th anniversary edition — with recordings made at Monnow Valley studios on the Welsh borders, where Oasis originally set out to record after signing their record deal.

From one 1999 horror remake to another. After rewatching The Haunting with eyes that were both more critical and 25 years older, it got me thinking about the other remake that came out that year. One that was a remake of a far sillier movie and that was the first effort from a new studio, namely Dark Castle Entertainment. The original was from a far less dark castle in that of schlock and gimmick purveyor William Castle and it starred Vincent Price as a man offering strangers money to stay in an allegedly haunted house for a night. While The Haunting failed on multiple levels to improve with age, how does House on Haunted Hill (watch it Here) look after a quarter of a century? Does its cheesy yet graphic tone feel at home in the time of A24 and elevated horror or should it forfeit its 1 million dollar check and leave the cursed grounds forever.

Prior to his seven-year stint on "Star Trek: Voyager," Robert Picardo had a lengthy and storied acting career. He was a Joe Dante regular, appearing in "The Howling," "The Explorers," "Innerspace," "The 'Burbs," "Matinee," and "Gremlins 2: The New Batch." He appeared in "Star 80," Ridley Scott's "Legend," the zombie cop film "Dead Heat," and Robert Englund's directorial debut "976-evil." This was all mixed in with plentiful TV work and multiple appearances on stage. Picardo has never been not busy, most recently appearing on a 2024 episode of "Young Sheldon."
Had Picardo never taken the "Star Trek" gig, he still would not have been hurting for work. "Voyager" just happened to be a sizable feather in his cap. "Voyager" simply boosted the actor's visibility and gained him legions of Trekkie fans. On "Voyager," Picardo played the U.S.S. Voyager's nameless Doctor, an Emergency Medical Hologram that had to...

Updated with complete winners list: Despite being up for four acting category awards, The Crown‘s final season left the BAFTA TV Awards empty handed tonight in London.
Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville, Salim Daw and Dominic West were all snubbed, as the the likes of Matthew Macfadyen, Jasmine Jobson, Timothy Spall and Sarah Lancashire all triumphed and the Netflix show went out quietly.
There was also a major surprise in the International category, where little-known French drama Class Act beat the likes of Beef, The Bear and The Last of Us to win the prize. Among the most shocked was the show’s star Laurent Lafitte, who urged the audience to find and watch his show — to the amusement of the audience.

At the start of The Responder’s first series, written by ex-police officer Tony Schumacher, the cracks were already showing in Martin Freeman’s police officer Chris Carson. He was depressed, angry, and having panic attacks.
A former inspector who’d been demoted to response policing when his squad came under suspicion of corruption, Chris had spent the last three years working night patrols in Liverpool city centre. He was unpopular at work and considered a loose cannon best left alone. His shift pattern meant that he barely saw his wife Kate (MyAnna Buring) and their young daughter Tilly. His wages couldn’t cover the fees at the care home for his dementia-suffering mother (Rita Tushingham). He wanted to be a good bobby, but under-funded public services made him at best, a sticking plaster on the desperate needs of his drug-flooded and impoverished community.

It was a year of pain for the entertainment industry and shareholders of (many) media companies with months-long Hollywood strikes and layoffs. Linear television continued to decline and a nascent theatrical recovery went sideways. Most CEOs saw pay packages rise in 2023, some by big multiples.
“The pay is egregious, but it is something we have learned to accept,” says one longtime entertainment analyst.
Irritants cited: CEOs rewarded for deals before its clear how they’ll pan out; CEOs who should looking for growth but keep cutting; CEO pay packages that feel disproportionate to the size of the company. Paramount Global’s (now ex) CEO Bob Bakish saw compensation of $31 million, a hair lower than Disney’s Bob Iger in his first year back as chief executive. (See CEO pay chart below right)

Showtime has a tendency, even more so than most networks, to drag its shows on for way too long. From "Dexter" to "Weeds" to "Californication," their shows just can't quite seem to learn how to end on a high note. Whereas HBO tends to leave its audience wanting more, Showtime series stick around until the audience begs them to go away.
Such is the case with "Shameless," a show that could've gone down as one of the greats of the 2010s if only it hadn't tried to drag things out a solid four or five seasons past its natural expiration date. By season 11 it was in full zombie mode, with one of its leads gone with the wind and the others acting like shells of their former selves. Of course, not all of the latter seasons were terrible, just as not all of the early seasons were perfect. Here's our...

If you’re one of the more than 150 million Americans who use TikTok, you may have heard that Congress passed a bill that could result in the incredibly popular app being banned. President Joe Biden signed it into law in April.
The signing came after the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed legislation that will ban the app in the United States unless it divests from its Chinese parent company. The House passed a different version of the bill in March, but it stalled in the Senate. The new version is...

The Senate voted Tuesday to pass a bill that would either ban TikTok from American app stores and web-hosting services or force its China-based parent company ByteDance to sell the video-sharing platform within nearly a year.
The bill, titled the Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, would also create a process through which the president can designate certain social media applications with ties to foreign governments as a national security risk. The measure was approved by the Senate 79 to 18 — sending the legislation to President Joe Biden’s desk.

A potential sequel to “A Knight’s Tale,” the 2001 period comedy that starred the late Heath Ledger as an aspiring knight, was killed by the Netflix algorithm, according to director Brian Helgeland.
“I pitched it to Sony because they own the rights, and it seemed like they were interested in making it with Netflix and releasing it as a Netflix movie,” the original film’s writer-director told Inverse in an interview published Monday. “My understanding is that Netflix tested this sequel idea through their algorithms, which indicated that it would not be successful.”
He said he was surprised at that, because “‘A Knight’s Tale’ seems to get more popular with every passing year; it’s the strangest thing.”
Helgeland’s idea was to make a pirate sequel right after the first film wrapped, he said, detailing the proposed plot.
“The plot revolved around Count Adhemar [Rufus Sewell] kidnapping Jocelyn [Shannyn Sossamon] and taking her to Constantinople,...

Liam Gallagher and John Squire of The Stone Roses stopped by The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night perform their single “I’m a Wheel.”
Bathed in bright yellow lights, Gallagher and Squire provide a blues-y, waltzing rendition of “I’m a Wheel,” the fourth single released from their collaborative album. Squire delivers a handful of expressive guitar lines with an air of cool on the right hand side. Gallagher, meanwhile, holds a pair of maracas for the performance and hardly uses them, save for some sparse shakes during Squire’s solos (he also lightly taps them on a tambourine at one point). His vocals, however, sound gritty, inspired, and anthemic. Watch the performance below.

GOP Left With Tiny One-Seat House Majority As Chaos Grows In Party After Rep. Mike Gallagher Resigns
Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wisconsin) plans to leave the House of Representatives as early as next month. With Gallagher’s departure planned for April 19, House Speaker Mike Johnson will be left with just a one-vote majority.
Gallagher’s exit date will mean there is no special election before November, so Wisconsin law states the seat must remain empty. Earlier in the year, Gallagher stated he would not seek reelection. Part of his decision is due to the backlash he received for not voting to impeach Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
A shift in the House’s balance may pose a risk for Johnson. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) filed a motion to oust Johnson, citing that Johnson “betrayed [their] conference” by breaking their rules of order and working with Democrats. It is unclear when the motion will come to a vote. No Republicans have publicly supported Greene’s notion as of yet.

Julianna Margulies and Peter Gallagher will star in a new Delia Ephron play on Broadway this fall.
The new play, called Left on Tenth and based on Ephron’s memoir, will be directed by Susan Stroman, director and choreographer of The Producers. Daryl Roth will produce. A theater and dates for the Broadway engagement have not yet been announced.
The play follows Delia, who co-wrote You’ve Got Mail and the play Love, Loss and What I Wore with her sister, Nora Ephron, as she reconnects with a man from her past and “falls into her own romantic comedy,” as she battles cancer.
Marguiles, a star of The Morning Show and The Good Wife, has previously appeared on Broadway in the 2006 play Festen. Gallagher has ten Broadway credits, most recently starring in the 2015 revival of On the Twentieth Century, and is also known for his on-screen work, including on The O.C. and Grace and Frankie.

Updated: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga) filed a motion Friday that could lead to a vote to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson, less than a half year into his tenure.
Greene’s action came just as the House passed a $1.2 trillion package to fund the government through September and forestall a shutdown. The bill only would have passed with Democratic votes, with a majority of Republicans against it.
“Ok, deep breath America, here we go again,” CNN anchor Dana Bash told viewers after Manu Raju and other reporters interviewed Greene on the steps of the Capitol afterward.
No vote on Greene’s motion to vacate is scheduled, as she did not seek a “privileged” resolution that would have triggered a two-legislative day timeframe for a floor vote. That is what happened in October, when Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-fl) led a successful effort to oust Kevin McCarthy as speaker. What...

The Senate is expected to vote on a proposal that would prevent ByteDance from operating TikTok in the United States, but before it does, it may air its findings in public. Several Senators, including Maria Cantwell (D-wa) and Mark Warner (D-va), have suggested that U.S. legislators should hold a hearing to discuss the threat TikTok poses to American consumers.
The proposed ban would be enforced through a bill co-authored by Congressmen Mike Gallagher (R-Wi) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-il). Beijing-based ByteDance could avoid a U.S. ban by divesting TikTok so that the app’s parent company would no longer possess ties to a “foreign adversary” like China. When Gallagher and Krishnamoorthi’s bill passed in the House of Representatives, the Department of Justice indicated that it would prefer to push for a divestiture rather than an outright TikTok ban.
One of the biggest issues the bill faces is the general public.

TikTok is trying to stop the U.S. government from implementing a nationwide ban on the app, but its big move may have backfired. As the House of Representatives prepares to vote on a contentious bill introduced by a bipartisan group of Congresspeople, TikTok has prompted its U.S.-based users to call their Congressional reps and protest the measure.
The bill, co-authored by Mike Gallagher (R-wi) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-il), is the latest in a years-long series of proposals that, if enacted, would effectively ban TikTok in the United States. This particular bill would enforce its ban by pointing to China’s status as a “foreign adversary.” Congress has long harbored concerns about TikTok’s data security practice, and the bill would act on those fears by sidelining apps that could send data to China.

Congress was flooded with phone calls this week from angry teens opposing a bill that could potentially ban TikTok. President Joe Biden isn’t worried about the controversy. On Friday, he told reporters he plans to sign the legislation if it passes.
The statement comes as Biden’s likely 2024 opponent Donald Trump has started backing away from his past efforts to ban TikTok, and is now publicly defending the popular platform — a decision that some observers speculate could be related to a Republican megadonor’s financial interests in TikTok’s parent company.

Update: The House Energy & Commerce Committee unanimously passed legislation to compel ByteDance to divest TikTok or face having the social media platform banned on app stores or web hosting services.
The committee voted 50-o for the legislation, which now must be voted on by the full House. But Speaker Mike Johnson has expressed support for the bill.
The vote followed a lobbying effort by TikTok, including sending prompts to users urging them to contact their member of Congress to protest the legislation.
Lawmakers’ offices reported being inundated with calls, but the strategy may have backfired when it came to members of the committee.

Congress is learning a tough lesson this Thursday: Don’t fuck with teens and their scrolling.
Teenagers are often (mistakenly) considered to be a generally politically apathetic demographic. But as lawmakers consider new legislation that would potentially ban the social media app TikTok, congressional offices are being flooded with calls from teenagers livid over the prospect of losing one of their favorite platforms.

It’s been nearly one year since TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew visited Capitol Hill for a contentious hearing, but Congress is still trying to figure out how it wants to regulate the world’s top short-form video app. The latest proposal comes from a bipartisan group of U.S. Congresspeople, who are hoping to force ByteDance to divest TikTok.
The latest bill was introduced in the House by Mike Gallagher (R-wi) and Raja Krishnamoorthi, who are the Chair and Ranking Member, respectively, of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. TikTok would face a ban in the United States unless it severs ties to ByteDance, its parent company that has long face scrutiny and criticism for its connections to the Chinese government, under new legislation proposed by a bipartisan group of House lawmakers.
The bill, introduced today, would prevent app stores or web hosting services from TikTok applications unless it severs ties to ByteDance. The bill also gives the president a process for designating that a social media application under the control of a foreign adversary as a national security risk. ByteDance, based in China, would have about five months to divest its U.S. operations.
The legislation has the backing of Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wi) and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-il), the chairman and the ranking member of the House Select Committee on the Ccp.

At least some of the Backstreet Boys’ songs have the timeless quality of The Beatles‘ songs. The writer of many Backstreet Boys tunes said he drew influence from The Beatles to write a very odd line. While the lyric might raise eyebrows, it certainly worked out for the Backstreet Boys.
A Backstreet Boys song was inspired by perceived gibberish from The Beatles
Max Martin is a Swedish songwriter who penned hits for the Backstreet Boys (“I Want It That Way”), Britney Spears, Ariana Grande “(“Break Free”), Taylor Swift (“Shake It Off”), and numerous other singers. He co-wrote and co-produced the Backstreet Boys’ “Shape of My Heart.” That tune includes the oddball lyrics “Sadness is beautiful/ Loneliness is tragical.”
During a 2019 interview with The Telegraph, Martin explained why he sometimes coins new words in his songs. “I grew up on Elton John and The Beatles and I had no idea what they were saying,...

Liam Gallagher has already made it clear he thinks the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is “full of Bumbaclarts,” and now he says the nomination of artists like Mariah Carey only reinforces his opinion.
Carey is one of this year’s 15 Hall of Fame nominees alongside Oasis and the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Cher, Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, and Sinead O’Connor. Speaking with The Sunday Times, Gallagher expressed that being nominated with such a range of artists devalues the whole idea of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: “As much as I love Mariah Carey and all that, I want to say: do me a favor and fuck off. It’s like putting me in the rap hall of fame, and I don’t want to be part of anything that mentally disturbed.”

Simu Liu is going back to the future. Well, like, five minutes into the future.
Peacock has given a straight-to-series order for an untitled espionage series starring Liu, in which the “Barbie” actor will play first-generation-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale. He realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears.
James Wan is among the executive producers on the series, which was written and created by Thomas Brandon (“Legacies”). Other EPs on the project include Michael Clear and Rob Hackett from Wan’s Atomic Monster. Danielle Bozzone will oversee the project for the production company, which recently merged with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse.
Wan/Atomic Monster and UCP/Peacock are already collaborating on a contemporary horror thriller now titled “Teacup.” Ian McCulloch is writing that one, and executive producing alongside Wan.

House Republicans have voted to impeach Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, after botching their first attempt last week. The vote was 214-213.
Despite Republicans in the lower chamber finally delivering on their long-standing promise to impeach Mayorkas, there is little chance the Dhs secretary will actually be convicted by the Democrat-controlled Senate.
On Jan. 31, Republicans in the Homeland Security Committee approved articles of impeachment accusing Mayorkas of presiding “over a reckless abandonment of border security and immigration enforcement, at the expense of the Constitution and the security of the United States.

Oasis are among the finalists for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024. We won’t know for sure whether the band will be inducted until April, but frontman Liam Gallagher doesn’t seem to care either away.
Responding to the news of Oasis’ nomination, Gallagher tweeted on Sunday, “Fuck the Rock n Roll hall of fame its full of Bumbaclarts LG x.” (Bumbaclart is British slang for
menstrual pads or toilet paper.)
Gallagher expounded on his thoughts in Twitter replies to fans. He called the Hall of Fame “a load of bollox” and said, “I don’t need some wank award by some geriatric in a cowboy hat,” he wrote. He also encouraged fans to vote for other nominees, such as Sinead O’Connor and Mariah Carey.

Thanks to streaming, The O.C. continues to find new audiences, two decades after its initial premiere. The show, which aired for four seasons during its broadcast run, wasn’t just a hit — it was a cultural phenomenon. Peter Gallagher, who was first-billed in the show’s ensemble cast, played a public defender who, after representing a troubled teen, petitioned to become his guardian. When he brought the teen (played by Benjamin McKenzie) into his upper-class community, that set up the culture clash conflicts that helped define the show. When The O.C. premiered in 2003, Gallagher told us that, from the start, he believed the show was truly something special. “If you ever come near my family again, I’ll kill you. Do you understand?”
We’ve all heard the phrase “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” We pull it out when we see a woman reacting to the hurtful choices of a romantic partner, standing up for herself after rejection, or really expressing any kind of powerful emotions at all. It’s a bon mot so pervasive that it makes you wonder if there are any men in hell. Maybe it’s all just hysterical women pulling hair and trying to steal each other’s boyfriends. Regardless of this reductive phrase and dehumanizing stereotype, few films in the history of cinema explore the concept of the scorned woman like Adrian Lyne’s Fatal Attraction. This cautionary tale about infidelity and revenge pits two women against each other for the love of one man with a surprising female killer emerging from the wreckage.

I.S.S. Movie Review Rating:
Star Cast: Ariana DeBose, Chris Messina, Pilou Asbaek, John Gallagher Jr., and Costa Ronin
Director: Gabriela Cowperthwaite
I.S.S. Movie Review (Photo Credit – YouTube)
What’s Good: The actors are committed to their roles, and the director manages to maintain the tension between the characters even when we know very little about them.
What’s Bad: The film is a bit of a mess when it comes to visual composition, and as the movie ends, it feels like it cannot sustain itself in time.
Loo Break: The movie knows that its premise cannot be sustained for long, and the result is a short running time, so there are no loo breaks in this one.
Watch or Not?: If you are in the mood for a fun thriller that doesn’t overstay its welcome, then this film is a fun watch.

Watching the science-fiction space thriller I.S.S., I couldn’t help but get the feeling that maybe this claustrophobic and talky material might be better suited as a stage play than as a movie, where audiences might be anticipating something a bit more compelling along the lines of a Gravity or an Alien.
Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s competent direction of Nick Shafir’s Black List script never manages to set the screen on fire as it is more focused on the increasingly tense relations between two trios – one American astronauts, the other Russian cosmonauts — aboard the International Space Station just as war between the two countries breaks out on Earth, causing great complication and conflict for the six.

In honor of the Sundance Film Festival’s 40th Anniversary, The Hollywood Reporter is looking back at the reviews of some of the festival’s biggest premieres. John and Ann are on the fast track: He’s just been made partner, and she’s decorated their condo with exquisite good taste. Two of Manchester’s most famous exports, Oasis’ Liam Gallagher and The Stone Roses’ John Squire, have confirmed they are releasing a collaborative album. Though full details haven’t been announced, the duo did reveal the first single, titled “Just Another Rainbow,” will arrive on January 5th.
Though Gallagher and Squire have known each other since 1989, and previously co-wrote “Love Me and Leave Me” for Squire’s band The Seahorses, the project didn’t come into focus until after Squire joined Gallagher on stage for “Champagne Supernova” at his solo show at Knebworth Park in 2022. Soon after, Squire sent Gallagher an initial batch of songs and the duo began collaborating remotely, with Jimi Hendrix, The Sex Pistols, Faces, Bob Marley, and The Bee Gees as “reference points.”
To begin recording the project, Gallagher went to Squire’s studio in Macclesfield, where he laid down vocals for two demos per day.

Exclusive: Half Yard Productions, the company behind TLC’s long-running series Say Yes To The Dress, is losing its two most senior executives.
CEO Dirk Hoogstra and Chief Creative Officer Nicole Sorrenti are exiting the company, which is owned by Peter Chernin’s The North Road Company. North Road took it over as part of its deal to acquire the U.S. assets of Red Arrow Studios last year.
It follows layoffs within the company over the summer as North Road looked to “right-size” the business.
It comes at a difficult time for unscripted producers; many companies in the genre are struggling as buying seems to have hit a low and the writers and actors strike didn’t bring any boom to the area, as happened with the 07/08 strike. There are fewer places to sell unscripted reality series and the market has been hurting.
