Carl Gottlieb has withdrawn his candidacy for vice president of the WGA West for medical reasons, leaving incumbent Marjorie David, the running mate of WGA West president David A. Goodman, the only candidate in the race.
Gottlieb, who’s served as vice president and secretary-treasurer of the guild, made the announcement Thursday via a statement read during the guild’s Candidates Night forum at the Writers Guild Theater.
“Carl Gottlieb has withdrawn his candidacy for vice president for medical reason due to an unexpected significant cardiac event,” said moderator Brian Gary, to gasps from the assembled writers. “Carl wanted everyone to know that he’s on the mend, however, he won’t be able to do anything but concentrate on recovery for the foreseeable future. Carl says he is happy to be alive, but unhappy to be weak and unable to be present at the theater tonight, or available for...

The Public House in Los Feliz was packed tonight with writers who showed up for #Wgamix. The mixer was the brain child of writer producer Danny Zucker who announced it only four days ago, in the immediate aftermath of the WGA severing ties with the Ata after their negotiations collapsed and ordering its members to fire their agents.
“Every job I ever got was thanks to networking,” Zucker wrote in the original announcement. “Now it’s up to us to meet & help our new friends. That’s why I’m starting #Wgamix.”
Trying to navigate staffing season without agents, writers have banded together to create support networks with such social media initiatives as #WGAStaffingBoost and #WGASolidarityChallenge. #Wgamix is adding a traditional, face-to-face networking element to the mix.
The turnout for the inaugural gathering was so big, some attendees spilled into the bar next door, according to posts on Twitter. Here are some comments,...

As you know the A&E Network is developing a four-hour miniseries based on the Stephen King novel Bag of Bones, which I'm very much looking forward to as I'm a fan of all things Stephen King. The network has officially launched an online interactive prequel to the story called Dark Score Stories, that some of you might think is pretty cool. It's described as a "visual and interactive exploration of the setting and characters of Bag of Bones through a series of eerie, animated images, striking black-and-white still photographs and audio interviews." It's available for exploration at DarkScoreStories.com.
Here's some more detailed information on Dark Score Stories from the press release:
In 'Dark Score Stories,' characters from the upcoming miniseries (including those played by stars Pierce Brosnan, Annabeth Gish and Melissa George) come to life in seven striking, photojournalistic portraits and oral histories. Each vignette will provide...

We've seen a lot of different kinds of viral marketing in support of upcoming projects as of late, but this one? This one kicks a copious amount of ass. Stephen King fans, rejoice! You have a new online destination to rattle your bones.
The newly launched Dark Score Stories website is a strange place indeed. On it you can explore some of the back stories of the characters in A&E's upcoming television adaptation of Bag of Bones and a whole lot more.
We hope you have your eagle eyes ready, too, because from tooling around on the site a bit, we can assure you that there's a gaggle of hidden goodness all over the place. We don't want to spoil it or anything, but you may want to start with the captions beneath the imagery in this consuming photo-journalistic journey. Come back here once you're done exploring, and tell...
