Pankaj Udhas earned his first accolade as a singer when he was 11 years old. He sang the patriotic song ‘Ae mere watan ke logon’ at a public event in his hometown Rajkot when the Sino-Indian War was raging in 1962, and he so impressed a member of the audience that he gifted the young singer what was then a princely sum of Rs 51.
Udhas, who passed into eternity on Monday, February 26, at the age of 72, however, had not planned to become a singer. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who is set to revisit his 1985 telefilm ‘Janam’ with a theatrical adaptation, shared that the same feelings and emotions still exist, saying the story is relevant in today’s time.
‘Janam’ was a groundbreaking film for its time, not only for its raw portrayal of a sensitive topic but also for its creator’s willingness to share his own experiences.
The film, which starred Kumar Gaurav and Shernaz Patel, received critical acclaim and was even included in the Panorama section of the 1986 International Film Festival of India.
The film, a semi-autobiographical exploration of an illegitimate son’s struggle for recognition from his father, will be brought back to life on stage with Bhatt’s protege Imran Zahid playing the lead role.

When Zeenat Aman in her Insta post paying tribute to Feroze Khan has written that the Oxford’s word for 2023 is Rizz which means charisma and Feroze Khan was the star who had the charisma or the Rizz. Expanding the analogy further, in the world of music, it was Rd Burman aka Pancham who oozed of risk or the charisma through his music. On the eve of his death anniversary here is a tribute to the legend-Pancham.
Most of us in either of the night spots or for welcoming the new year at home would have ushered the occasion getting drooled and swooned to either of the multitude of compositions that Rahul Dev Burman aka Pancham has left for us, but how many from amongst us remember that just after four days, when we herald the new year, falls his death anniversary.

‘Bhed Chaal’ is a Hindi proverb very much used in relation to the Hindi film industry. It means that one huge success is followed by numerous other attempts. Original ideas are at a premium in the Hindi film industry. The makers either depend on a foreign film, or a novel, or a South Indian film for a subject.
Filmmakers always want to play safe because the risk factor is always high. The distributor, while being wined and dined, gets a sales pitch, like “Zanjeer se kam nahi hamari picture…” and such. Many smaller-budget imitations of ‘Sholay’, ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Deewaar’ and other such films flooded the market. That is to say, if one action film worked, many more were certain to follow.
With the introduction of the video format followed by CDs, the trend changed to copying Hollywood films. A star was sent two videos or discs to watch, and they were...

New Delhi, Jan 31 (Ians) As India plans to introduce a new law to prohibit all 'private cryptocurrencies' in the country, the industry stakeholders have come out in unison, hoping that the government will listen to all the stakeholders before taking any decision.

Failure, competition and the pressure of staying relevant perennially looms on actors in Bollywood. Some can cope with it and some cannot. Those who cannot, often quit and opt for a different path in another fields.
The author has jotted out a few names, who courted the limelight for a while but could not continue their journey in the world of glitz and sparkle called Bollywood.
Imran Khan
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan's nephew Imran Khan has quit Bollywood as an actor. He broke the news earlier this month. Imran made his debut in Hindi film industry in 2008 with the hit film "Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na". However, most of what followed was forgettable fare as "Luck", "Kidnap", "I Hate Luv Story" and "Break Ke Baad". There was "Delhi Belly" in 2011, but that was an odd success, clearly not enough. Imran's last big screen outing was in 2015 with Kangana Ranaut...

Amazon PrimeA brilliant cast of actors led by Pankaj Tripathi is let down by an inconsistent script and indulgent direction.Saraswati DatarThe name 'Mirzapur' traces its etymology back to the Persian words Emir (commander ) and Zad ( lineage) and literally translates to ‘place of a king’. It’s an apt title for Amazon Prime’s third made-in-India original, produced by Excel Media and Entertainment, that tells the story of a powerful overlord trying to rule his fiefdom while consolidating control for his heir apparent. Directed by Karan Anshuman, Mihir Desai, and Gurmmeet Singh, Mirzapur boasts of an enviable ensemble cast and a story that on paper, has all the ingredients for another small town crime potboiler. It’s an interesting ‘othering’ of small town India as a hotbed of crime and all things immoral and rather perversely exotic, for a largely urban audience watching it on a digital platform.

Wedding Pullav which launches producer Shashi Ranjan's daughter Anushka was originally meant to be directed by Rahul Rawail who roped in his best friend Rishi Kapoor to make a very special appearance in this wedding comedy. But then Rawail had a fall-out with the producer and he marched out of the project. Ace cinematographer Binod Pradhan took over the directorial reins, leaving Rishi in a dilemma of loyalty. Says Rishi, "I did the film only because of my friend Rahul Rawail. Jab woh project mein nahin toh phir mera rahna kuch theek nahin lagaa." However the producer pleaded with Rishi to stay on. Professionalism won. Says Rishi, "Although my heart was not in it I've stayed on. Lekin Rahul ke bina dil nahin lagaa. I stayed on because it's the producer's daughter's launch. The recent times have seen an array of biopics being made on the celluloid, like Mary Kom, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Paan Singh Tomar, Shahid, The Dirty Picture etc...to name a few. If there's one person whose biopic features on everyone's wish list, then, it has to be on none other than Bollywood's favourite 'baba' Sanjay Dutt. It seems that all these prayers are soon going to be answered in the form of Rajkumar Hirani's biopic on Dutt, which will star Ranbir Kapoor in the lead.
After months of speculations, Raju Hirani has finally opened up to say that he is indeed making a biopic on Sanjay Dutt and that the film may go on floors before Sanjay Dutt is released from prison. Koffee With Karan Season 4 definitely had a fresh and interesting kick start as Karan Johar managed to get one of the much loved Khans of Bollywood on the couch for a steaming cup of coffee and a conversation! Salman Khan, with his ‘I say what I want to’ attitude totally gave this season a great start as he spoke about relationships, Srk and all things Bollywood.
Salman is known for his various hook-ups, breakups and of course the big ‘marriage’ question that he is always subjected to, which he says just irritates him. “I have found quite a few right people,” he added. Salman also pointed out that one of the main reasons that he does not like revealing about his relationships is that he doesn’t want to associate his name with any girl and cause her any problem in her life later on, if their relationship doesn’t work out.

The Hindi Film Industry witnesses the birth of many stars every year. They are launched with great aplomb, media frenzy and above all, expectations. Sometimes we see the quintessential models or pageant winners but most of the times we see the star kids joining the industry. Debuts are stressful and a big burden on the shoulders of newcomers. Star kids are compared to their legendary parents while models are often labeled plastic. Let's take a further look into debuts in the Hindi film industry.
In earlier days, star kids like Kumar Gaurav or the Late Raj Kapoor’s sons (Randhir, Rishi and Rajiv Kapoor) were launched with much fanfare and their first films were massive hits. The public hailed the new kids on the block and it was taken for granted that they will take the lineage forward with several jubilee hits. Barring Rishi Kapoor, the other stars fizzled. Some...

A favorite scene from a movie that released in 1986? You must take me to be one who watches less number of movies, or a person who is unwilling to come out from the cobwebs surrounding himself. What makes the scene run for me is the 'wooden faced' actors giving it their best shot in terms of emotions in a scene that raises the bar. Kudos to Mahesh Bhatt that he could pull the scene off. I always remind friends about this scene when they call Sanjay Dutt 'wooden faced'
