Exclusive: Gardening is the new baking, apparently… Viacom’s Channel 5 is getting its hands dirty with Bake Off-style competition format The Great Garden Challenge.
The British broadcaster has ordered six episodes of the non-scripted series from Crackit Productions, the producer of series including Trucking Hell and nun-fronted reality series Bad Habits, Holy Orders.
The new series is a garden design competition where teams of professional garden designers from around the UK go head-to-head to build gardens in less than 48 hours to benefit charity organizations. The eight teams are fighting to become the Great Garden Challenge Champion and win the chance to exhibit their garden at the prestigious Rhs Garden Wisley.
Receiving the brief two weeks in advance, the teams will take under-used, under-loved spaces and create gardens that will enhance the lives of some truly deserving recipients – from war veterans to care homes for the disabled, hospitals to dementia sufferers.

Unrivalled in its ability to showcase the worst of people, Channel 4's Come Dine With Me sucks viewers into an ineludible abyss...
Dinner parties are rubbish, they're just dinner with added pressure. Why add pressure to dinner? It’s probably the best meal of the day. Come Dine With Me dinner parties on the other hand, are amazing. Intrigue! Underhand tactics! People riffling through strangers’ bedroom drawers! They've got it all.
For those who don’t know, Channel 4's Come Dine With Me entails people from the same area each putting on a dinner party on consecutive nights in the hope of winning £1000. They all score each other out of ten and with any luck, someone kicks off.
There is something wonderful about watching a group of people who have been thrust together in such an unusual situation – who will make the most disastrous dish?...

2. Jamelia's daughters don't even recognise her anymore.
"You become obsessed with it. Literally, this weekend I was washing up and dancing. My daughters were like, 'Mummy, what are you doing?' and I was like, 'I'm not your mummy anymore.

Diarmuid Gavin thinks the ''tighter'' the Speedos on 'Splash!', the better. The TV gardener departed from the ITV1 diving competition on Saturday night (12.01.13) after receiving low scores from judges Jo Brand, Andy Banks and Leon Taylor and admitted while the small trunks protected him ''down there'' during the jumps, he still found the belly flops incredibly ''painful''. He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ''You have to do the Speedos, otherwise you end up bruised down there! The tighter the better. We've all been through that, arriving with very loose shorts, but by God you feel it afterwards. ''There have been quite a...

Diarmuid Gavin has become the third celebrity to be voted off 71 Degrees North. The TV gardener picked up four votes from his fellow competitors, narrowly losing out to Michelle Mone, who collected three. The only other celebrity to get a vote was Susie Amy, who received one. Speaking afterwards, Gavin said: "It's been the most exhilarating of adventures and I'm disappointed - I would have liked one more week. They may have been in Los Angeles to discuss the 2010 series of X Factor with Simon Cowell, but ITV bosses still found time to wine and dine former Spice Girl Mel B during their trip.
For months there has been speculation that Simon is planning to offer Mel a seat on the X Factor judging panel, this latest revelation will certainly fan those flames!

Celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin was caught out checking into a hotel whilst filming for his new BBC show Famous Rich And Jobless.
The star was supposed to be residing with a low income jobless family and living on just £9 a day while on the show, however show staff caught the 45 year old checking into a Travelodge and paying with a forbidden credit card.
Show mentor Emma Harrison told The Sun:
“At the start of the show, Diarmuid was supposed to give us all his cash and credit cards.
“But he hid a credit card from us and when he was placed with an unemployed family he didn’t like it and went and stayed in a hotel.”
After being caught Diarmuid argued: “I haven’t left their home out of anger or frustration or seeking comforts. I saw something that I felt was wrong and had to take a stand.

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Nicole Cutler has criticised the BBC for its treatment of the show's professional dancers. Cutler joined the BBC One ballroom competition for series two in 2004, when she was partnered with TV personality Diarmuid Gavin. She went on to appear in two further seasons, working with newsreader Nicholas Owen in series four and ex-footballer John Barnes in series five, but has not been asked to return for this year's run. Speaking about her time on the show, Cutler told the News of the World: "It's nothing like it looks on TV. And it's all the BBC's fault."
