There’s no getting around it — Mario Bava’s one space opera is now confirmed as a classic. Barry Sullivan and Norma Bengell must oppose invisible aliens that possess the corpses of their fellow space men. Bava’s ‘gothic’ Haunted Planet recipe just adds more weird colored lights and swirling fog to his supernatural Gothic formula. The designs are excellent and the results unique, from the odd spacecraft to the kinky costumes. The show is also genuinely influential, as should be well known to every fan of more modern sci-fi / horror films. The new HD remaster is an improvement, too!

President Barack Obama spoke at a fundraiser co-hosted by by Ricky Martin, the Lgbt Leadership Council and the Futuro Fund at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City.
Obama drew a contrast between presumptive Gop presidential nominee Mitt Romney and 2008 presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). "We have a very clear contrast this time. John McCain believed in climate change and believed in immigration reform," he said. "What we have this time out is a candidate who said he would rubber stamp a Republican Congress that wants us to go backward, not forward."
He also spoke about his recent endorsement of same-sex marriage. "I want everyone treated fairly in this country. We have never gone wrong when we've extended rights and responsibilities to everybody. That doesn't weaken families, that strengthens families."
Tickets started at $5,000 and around 200 people were expected to attend.

The third annual Broadway Beauty Pageant, showcasing some of the most talented hotties on the Great White Way, raised the roof at Symphony Space in NYC last night.
Fabulous men from the casts of The Little Mermaid, Wicked, Hair, The Lion King, and Billy Elliot went head-to-head in talent, swimsuit, and interview competitions for the title of Mr. Broadway, all to benefit the Ali Forney Center, which provides housing and other services for homeless Glbt youth.
The amazing Tovah Feldshuh hosted the pageant, and though the winner was ultimately chosen by audience vote, a panel of judges consisting of Charles Busch, Ana Gasteyer, Beth Leavel, and Seth Rudetsky was on hand to make hilarious commentary.
Here are Michael Portantiere's photos of this joyous event.
Here's Anthony Hollock, this year's winner of the "Mr. Broadway" title, flanked by Marty Thomas ("Mr. Broadway 2007") and Frankie James Grande ("Mr. Broadway 2008")
