- Black Flag's 1981 album 'Damaged' is considered a seminal work in the history of hardcore music, containing such songs as "TV Party" and "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie."
- Founded the legendary indie label SST Records in the late seventies. Such bands as Husker Du, the Minutemen, and the Meat Puppets recorded for the label at one time.
- Founder of the legendary hardcore band Black Flag. Ginn was both the guitarist and songwriter in its early days, but later shared songwriting duties with lead singer Henry Rollins. Rollins stated in his book "Get in the Van" that Ginn told him in 1986 that he never liked Henry very much, and had decided to break up the band.
- Will reunite Black Flag on September 12, 2003 at the Hollywood Palladium to perform a benefit for organizations that rescue cats.
- Never used any effect pedals, just his guitar and amp.
- Ginn owns independent record label, SST, originally begun as an electronics company called "Solid State Transmitters" while he was a teenager in Long Beach, California. Bands such as The Meat Puppets, The Minutemen, Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, and Bad Brains were signed to this label.
- Only consistent member through all of Black Flag's career from 1976-1986, 2003.
- Was ranked 99th on Rolling Stone's "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.".
- Used a Dan Armstrong Lucite electric guitar throughout his career until it was stolen on April 16, 1986.
