Wattpad Webtoon Studios, the screen entertainment arm of web-based publisher of Webtoon Entertainment, and Skybound Entertainment, the banner behind The Walking Dead and Invincible, are teaming up to develop an adaptation of webcomic hit Freaking Romance.
Matthew Kic and Mike Sorce, rising scribes who have twice had scripts on the Black List, have been tapped to pen the screenplay for what is intended to be a live-action feature.
Aron Levitz, David Madden and Jason Goldberg will produce for Wattpad Webtoon. Robert Kirkman, David Alpert and Rick Jacobs are producing the film via Skybound. Skybound’s Fred D. Lee will oversee the project.
The story centers on a young woman named Lily who moves into the only place she can afford, a haunted apartment. She soon discovers that the so-called ghost occupying the house isn’t a paranormal apparition, but rather a man from another dimension, and before you know it,...

With a light-hearted, feel-good lineup of programming that includes The Spencer Sisters and Sullivan’s Crossing on the schedule for fall, the addition of dating show FBoy Island to the CW’s 2023-2024 schedule feels more than just a little incongruous.
But CW programming chief Brad Schwartz told reporters Thursday that it would have been silly not to pick up HBO Max’s castoff because of its “big loud title” and built-in audience. New episodes of the show plus reruns of the dating show will air on CW Thursdays this fall.
“When they [HBO Max] canceled their entire unscripted slate, there was the biggest show just sitting there,” Schwartz told reporters. “It had two seasons of audience that just love the show. It was opportunistic. It’s such a broadcast show. The show is The Bachelor. The show is Love Island. It’s a little bolder, we know there is an audience there for it.

STX has been shopping the project for the last few months and we hear that The CW has won out, although sources warned that there’s no ink on the deal yet.

Deadline understands that The CW is lining up a third season of the STX-produced show after beating out a number of other bidders.
Interestingly, the network, which was recently acquired by Nexstar, is also set to pick up a spinoff – FGirl Island.
STX has been shopping the project for the last few months and we hear that The CW has won out, although sources warned that there’s no ink on the deal yet.
It is a major statement of intent from the broadcaster, which last month hired Heather Olander to head up its drive into more alternative series. We hear that Olander has been busy meeting producers as she begins her buying spree, one that comes as unscripted programming could make up around 50% of its schedule with a mix of high-profile, big-budget projects like FBoy Island...

HBO Max has canceled “FBoy Island” — the reality dating series ran for two seasons.
Hosted by Nikki Glaser, the series followed three women as they chose a potential boyfriend from a pool of 24 men by trying to identify which contestants were “f-boys,” who were there only to have a good time, and which were “nice guys” genuinely searching for love.
The cancellation doesn’t come as a shock. The status of much of HBO Max’s programming has appeared to be up in the air since the closing of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger in April. This has been especially true of unscripted content, since the Discovery side of the business has come with its own prolific slate of unscripted shows. Those series in production on the Warner Bros. side seem to have created redundancies incompatible with CEO David Zaslav’s intense cost-cutting strategy. Zaslav has repeatedly emphasized a goal...

HBO Max has renewed new dating competition series “FBoy Island” for a second season.
The show comes from creator Elan Gale and is hosted by Nikki Glaser, who also executive produces.
“With a title like ‘FBoy Island,’ we knew we would get the audience’s attention and we’re thrilled that they’ve responded to the self-aware, comedic nature of the format, proving that they are excited by this fresh approach that puts women in control,” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max.
The first season of “FBoy Island,” which filmed earlier this year in the Cayman Islands, put three women in the power position, so to speak, choosing a potential boyfriend among 24 seemingly eligible and willing men. The trick, at first, seemed to be to figure out who were the self-proclaimed “nice guys” who were there to form genuine relationships and who were the self-professed “f-boys,” who...

This is no joke: Chance the Rapper is set to host a new edition of “Punk’d,” the classic MTV prank series made famous by Ashton Kutcher, on Quibi, the upcoming mobile-only streaming service.
The show, which originally launched in 2003, featured Kutcher and his merry group of rabble rousers pranking unsuspecting celebrities. Justin Timberlake had the honor of being the first A-lister tricked on the show, with the singer on the verge of crying a river after being led to believe the government was seizing his assets. Now, Chance the Rapper will take the reins and “no stars are safe,” according to a Friday release from MTV Studios.
“‘Punk’d” is one of MTV’s most iconic franchises,” the Grammy-winner said in a statement. “I grew up watching this show and it’s surreal to be in the driver’s seat this time around on Quibi.”
