Filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti are the creative powerhouses who have captivated the audience with their immersive storytelling over the years. They may not be a director duo in conventional sense but they know how to go about a story and divide the responsibilities everytime they work on a project.
Be it ‘Made In Heaven’, ‘Gully Boy’, ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’, ‘Dil Dhadakane Do’, the two have always backed each other by one of them taking over the reins as a director and the other taking the onus of writing.
They’re now coming up with another film, this time a streaming film — a live action adaptation of ‘Archie’ comics ‘The Archies’.
Zoya has directed the film and has co-written with Reema.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 7 premiere of The CW’s Riverdale.
It’s the beginning of the end for Riverdale. The series kicked off its final season on Wednesday, picking up where the last moments of Season 6 left off, after the characters were suddenly transported back in time to the 1950s right before Bailey’s comet decimated the town.
Archie, Betty, Jughead, Veronica and the rest of the gang are back in high school, in a decade that showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says is “most associated with Archie Comics.” But while the season will certainly feel nostalgic, it also won’t shy away from the realities of the decade, Aguirre-Sacasa said.
“It would have been disingenuous to erase the real struggles and the real hardships that a lot of people in the 1950s faced, especially for our queer characters and our characters of color,” he told Deadline,...

“It’s a golden age to be an Archie Comics fan right now,” says company president Mike Pellerito with infectious enthusiasm, adding “I just can’t imagine a better time.”
The declaration is more than accurate, as the independently owned publisher is celebrating its 80th anniversary with the massive CW hit Riverdale entering its sixth season. Despite the TV success, comics are still Archie’s bread and butter, from the digest reprints that beg for impulse buys at the supermarket to a series of innovative titles that have seen Archie and his “pals and gals” become critical darlings.
Some history: In December of 1941, Mlj Comics – a publisher then best known for its stable of superheroes like The Shield, a patriotic figure who predates Captain America – released Pep #22, featuring a backup story focusing on lovable klutz Archie Andrews. It was an instant success due to the humor and charm of its cast,...

That’s the plot of “Name Fame,” a five-page story in Archie Jumbo Comics Digest issue no. 302 that playfully reacts to the royal newborn who shares both the first name and the hair color of the Archie Andrews character. While Riverdale is an intriguing story on its own, fans of the Archie comics have a lot of hidden treats to look for in each episode. If you grew up reading these comics, you're probably pretty shocked at how different this show is from its source material. While it did make some drastic changes in story and character from the comic books, Riverdale offers a lot of Easter eggs in homage to the original Archie comics penned by John L. Goldwater and Bob Montana. Take a look at some of the biggest Easter eggs we've seen in Riverdale so far.

Here’s an idea that many kids (and adults) dearly wanted (or still want) to do. I’m talking about having such a love of literary characters, that you believe that you could actually visit their homes and towns. For fans of famous prose novels there might be a desire to go to Narnia, Oz, or Middle Earth. DC comics fans would love to live or work in Metropolis or Gotham City (Marvel superhero lovers quickly discover that the actual NYC isn’t filled with Avengers and mutants). Ah, then reality kicks in and we realize that these locales can only exist in our daydreams. But what happens when you hear rumors of a real place that inspired your favorite comics line. This is what happened to film critic and historian Gerald Peary. In his youth he didn’t gravitate toward the spandex crowd, rather he was smitten with Archie Andrews,...

Archie’S Betty screens Sunday, November 15th at 12:00pm at The Plaza Frontenac Theater as part of this year’s St. Louis International Film Festival. Director Gerald Peary will be in attendance. Ticket information can be found Here
In Archie’S Betty, journalist and filmmaker Gerald Peary embarks on a personal journey to determine whether the beloved characters in “Archie” comics were modeled on real-life people. As an “Archie”-obsessed child, Peary believed that somewhere in America there was a real town of Riverdale, where Archie and his teen friends went to school. As an adult, he found that his fantasy might have basis in fact: Riverdale could indeed be the city of Haverhill, Mass., where Bob Montana, the original cartoonist of “Archie,” attended high school in the mid-1930s. Did Montana love Haverhill High so much that he based “Archie” characters on students in his classes? Was Archie...

I know it says “Dark Circle” on the cover. In the past the cover has said “Red Circle” and before that “Archie” and before that “Mlj.” But it’s all Archie Comics to me, and I mean that as a compliment.
I think their first “Dark Circle” comic book was The Fox, by Dean Haspiel and Mark Waid. I loved it. I say “I think” because comics publishers do reboots faster than elves make shoes. Maybe the next Fox by Haspiel and Waid will restart the series again. But, for conversation’s sake, let’s say last week’s Black Hood #1 by Duane Swierczynski and Michael Gaydos was the second Dark Circle title.
And that’s where I got confused.
First, for the record, I liked this latest Black Hood. Like most contemporary comics, there wasn’t enough story in the first issue for me to make a real commitment,...

New York — Archie's old Riverdale gang is headed to the big screen.
Warner Bros. will produce a live-action film based on the comic's characters, including Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead, Archie Comics announced Thursday. It will be the first feature film for the 72-year-old comic.
Directing will be Jason Moore, who helmed the 2012 high school musical comedy "Pitch Perfect." "Glee" writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is penning the script.
In an interview Thursday, Aguirre-Sacasa said the present-day film will be "a quintessential teen movie."
"The idea for this is to capture a very truthful, authentic coming-of-age story with these kids that includes heartache, that includes pain, that will obviously temper the fun and the hijinks," said Aguirre-Sacasa. "It's going to be a fun – hopefully – summer movie, but we're not shying away from the truth and the awkwardness and the growing pains of being a teenager."

Until now, the closest we've seen to a horror twist on the ever-wholesome Archie Comics series (which has been around for over 70 years) was the storyline teaming up the teen hero and his pals Betty, Veronica and Jughead with the band Kiss to combat a monster invasion. But this news blows that story off the map. Per a report from Deadline.com, Warner Bros. has just sealed the deal for a live-action Archie movie, adapted by screenwriter Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Carrie), and with Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) signed to direct... but that's not the weird part here: apparently Aguirre-Sacasa has also been hired to write a new comic book series entitled Afterlife with Archie, which finds the squeaky-clean teens battling the living dead in suburban New York. Back in March, Aguirre-Sacasa told Deadline that Afterlife, which evolved from conversations with Archie creator John L. Goldwater, “combines two of my great passions,...

This is definitely the weird, slightly off-putting, slightly intriguing news of the day. An Archie Comics movie is in the works…but zombies look to be involved.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a writer of Big Love and Glee, and big-time Archie Comics fan, was hired to write Afterlife With Archie, a story with Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead and zombies, and other horror staples. News hit last night that Warner Bros. has bought a deal to produce a live action film based on Archie Comics, with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa attached to pen the script (he also wrote the script for the upcoming Carrie remake). This seems to indicate that there will be a horror element in play with the high school set comedy.

Exclusive… Update: Archie? Betty? Veronica? Jughead? Zombie? Just when Hollywood thinks it’s heard it all comes our news that Warner Bros Pictures last night just closed all deals for a Wme-packaged live-action movie based on Archie Comics. Producing are Roy Lee and Dan Lin, and Jon Goldwater, Krishnan Menon, and Jon Silk are executive producers. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) has signed on to direct while Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Glee) is writing. Sources tell us that the screenplay envisions a “high school comedy based on the original line of Archie Comics set in present-day Riverdale.” But earlier this year scribe Aguirre-Sacasa signed on to write a new line of the venerable Archie Comics with a peculiar way into their adventures: flesh-eating zombies! Aguirre-Sacasa helped fix the troubled Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark and scripted the upcoming remake of Carrie that stars Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore. But his “Afterlife...

Will Jughead eat braaaaains?
Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is making a live-action movie based on the iconic "Archie" comics. Jason Moore ("Pitch Perfect") will direct, with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ("Glee") penning the screenplay. Sources tell the site that the movie will be a "high school comedy based on the original line of Archie Comics set in present day Riverdale."
There's also been some speculation that the "Archie" movie would incorporate zombies -- yes, zombies -- mostly because they appear in Aguirre-Sacasa's "Afterlife With Archie" comic.
The new title "combines two of my great passions, Archie comics and horror comics," he said.
But before we start counting our zombies, comic writer Brian Lynch pointed out on Twitter that neither the studio nor "Archie" publisher John L. Goldwater indicated that the movie would be based on "Afterlife."
Deadline.com thinks the Archie movie will have zombies because the screenwriter also wrote an Archie comic with zombies.

A little over a year after his introduction to Riverdale, Kevin Keller, the first gay character in Archie Comics history, is getting ready to tie the knot.
Having been introduced in April, 2010 in "Veronica" #202, the character has gone on to become one of the franchise's most popular, with his own miniseries this summer and a subsequent regular series planned for February of next year. With nuptials mentioned back in July, the series' publisher announced on Wednesday that Keller will wed in an issue out January 4th.
A press release from Archie Comics announced:

Update:
Archie Comics, the last remaining subscriber to the Comics Code Authority, dropped their participation.
That's it for the Code. My heart goes out to every cartoonist who lost his or her job in the 1950s when that rat-bastard started dropping its load on the comics medium.
Or, as they say in Oz, "Ding dong, the witch is dead!"
Now back to our previously schedule rant...
Well, it only took 57 years, but DC Comics finally quit the Comics Code Authority.
This useless relic of more paranoid times stifled creativity for much of the past six decades before turning irrelevant as traditional newsstands became quaint relics of the ancient past. Back in the 1950s comic books were equated with juvenile delinquency and were subjected to hysterical editorials in major national magazines and even televised Congressional hearings.
