Jeff Russo has signed on to score the upcoming indie drama Cherry. The movie is directed by Stephen Elliot and stars James Franco, Heather Graham, Dev Patel, Ashley Hinshaw, Jonny Weston and Lili Taylor. The film centers on a troubled 18-year old girl who moves to San Francisco, where she gets involved in pornography and aligns herself with a cocaine-addicted lawyer. Elliot co-wrote the script with Lorelei Lee and Liz Destro (Explicit Ills) is producing the project. Cherry was shot this summer in San Francisco and has recently entered post-production. No release date has been announced yet, but the movie isn’t expected to premiere until next year.

Christopher Tyng (Futurama , Rescue Me) is scoring the new legal drama Suits. The show created by Aaron Korsh and starring Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Meghan Markle, Rick Hoffman and Gina Torres centers on a top Manhattan corporate lawyer who recruits a brilliant but unmotivated college dropout as a new associate. Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) who has worked with Tyng on multiple TV shows, including The Oc, Knight Rider and Covert Affairs is executive producing the show. Kevin Bray directed the pilot. Suits (formerly known as A Legal Mind) is set to premiere on June 23, 2011 on USA and the first season of 12 episodes will be airing every Thursday night. For better or worse, we've come a long way from the days when rock & roll was an entirely pure form of generational rebellion. Even in my lifetime, I've seen fathers go from older dudes who yelled, "Turn that racket down!" to roving bands of aging dads in jeans and t-shirts who are more likely to ask the kids if they can sit in and jam with their emo bands. Where I live, when a dad tells you that he's taking his kid hunting, he generally means record hunting at Amoeba Music. I've been thinking about these issues lately because four talented dads in my neighborhood -- Freddy Curci, Rick Neigher, Adam Gorgoni and Chris Cote -- got together recently and formed an acapella group that's fittingly called Who's Your Daddy!
