Exclusive: Anthony Q. Farrell, who was among the writers of NBC sitcom The Office, has been tapped as showrunner for season two of CBC comedy Run the Burbs.
Farrell, who was recently handed the 2022 Showrunner Award by the Writers Guild of Canada, will replace season one showrunner Shebli Zarghami on the show, which was officially renewed earlier this month as part of CBC’s 2022/23 slate.
Co-created by star Andrew Phung (Kim’s Convenience) and Scott Townend (The Secret Marathon), the Pier 21 Films-produced Run the Burbs follows the Phams, a young Vietnamese-South Asian-Canadian family who upend ideas about contemporary family values and life in the suburbs.

Quibi and Lionsgate are teaming with rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson for the animated series Trill League, an adaptation of Anthony Piper’s indie graphic novel and its anime-inflected, hip-hop-informed vision of a black superhero universe.
Jameel Saleem (South Park) and Piper are co-creators and writers of the series, which they will executive produce with Jackson (Power) and 3 Arts Entertainment’s Jermaine Johnson. The series is produced by 3 Arts Entertainment and G-Unit Film & Television in association with Lionsgate Television.

CBS has put in development Never Tell, a drama based on the book of the same title by Selena Montgomery (nom de plume for Stacey Abrams), from writer Talicia Raggs (NCIS: New Orleans) Abrams and Nina Tassler and Denise Di Novi’s Pat Ma Productions, in which CBS has an ownership stake and PatMa has a first-look deal. Abrams is attached as an executive producer. CBS TV Studios is the studio.

Producer-director Barry Sonnenfeld is setting shop at ABC, closing in on a two-year, first-look deal with the network and ABC Studios.
Under the pact, Sonnenfeld will develop projects for ABC and will direct a pilot for the network during pilot season, while being available to helm pilots for other nets off-cycle.
Under the ABC/ABC Studios deal, Sonnenfeld already has teamed with former ABC executive-turned-producer Stu Bloomberg for a high-concept multicamera project.
The untitled comedy, from writer Laura House, has received a script commitment. It centers on a harried mom who finds a suit that turns her into a "supermom" when she puts it on.
