Over the last half century, there have been a ton of great actors who have worn the Batman cowl over the years. However, arguably what’s more interesting, are the actors who just missed their shot at playing the famous DC hero. One of those well-known names is Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal, who recently reflected on losing out on the Batman role for Batman Begins on The Howard Stern Show. This included talking about how director Christopher Nolan personally called him after he got the sad Bat-news.

Jake Gyllenhaal brings a darker style to Dalton, distinguishing him from Patrick Swayze's vesion. Frank and Frankie have similar functions in both versions of Road House, with minor differences in the remake. Both Knox and Jimmy Reno play the role of Dalton's most dangerous opponent, but Conor McGregor's bombastic presence makes him pop.
The Road House remake surrounds Dalton with a completely new cast of characters, but many of them play similar roles to characters from the original movie. Dalton is a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough bar in the Florida Keys. While in town, he discovers that the constant disruption at the bar is all part of a plan to destroy the business. Jake Gyllenhaal shines in the role of Dalton, bringing a new style to the character that distinguishes him from Patrick Swayze, who played Dalton in the 1989 original movie.

The film features him taking on the role of an ex-UFC fighter, Elwood Dalton, who starts working as a bouncer at Florida Key Road House in Miami. The crocodile death in Road House 2024 is geographically accurate - American crocodiles do inhabit South Florida waters. Road House's incorporation of crocodiles caused confusion because the film is set in Florida, which is more often associated with alligators. Despite being set in the Florida Keys, the Road House remake was actually filmed in the Dominican Republic, where American crocodiles also reside.
A running joke in Road House 2024 that foreshadowed the remake's most absurd death raises the question of whether crocodiles are actually native to the action movie's Florida setting. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, Road House 2024 is a remake of Patrick Swayze's 1989 movie about a tough bouncer hired to tame a rowdy bar called The Double Deuce. Although the basic premise is the same, some details like the bar name and Dalton's backstory in Road House 2024 are different from the original movie.

Jake Gyllenhaal missed out on playing Batman in 2005, but now has the experience and a confirmed interest in becoming the new Dark Knight for the upcoming Dcu. Gyllenhaal has expressed a desire to play the next on-screen Batman, believing it would be an honor to bring the classic role to life. Gyllenhaal's potential as Batman in the Dcu's Brave and the Bold aligns with what will likely be an older version of Bruce Wayne whose Robin is his biological son Damian Wayne.
Jake Gyllenhaal becoming the Dcu's new Batman would vindicate the iconic actor following a missed opportunity 19 years ago. 2024's Road House remake wasted Daniela Melchior's action-star potential by sidelining her to just one brief action scene despite her proven skills in Fast X and The Suicide Squad. The remake's post-credits scene teased a potential sequel where Melchior could redeem her potential that was squandered in 2024's Road House. Even if Road House 2 doesn't happen, Fast 11 could showcase Melchior's action skills to make up for her underutilization in the Road House remake.

Warning! Contains spoilers for Road House (1989) and Road House (2024).
The Road House remake pays homage to the original with subtle nods and easter eggs throughout its runtime. Jake Gyllenhaal's Dalton in Road House creates a modern twist with a new backstory as a former UFC fighter. Both Road House films feature a cool-headed Dalton, with skeletons in their closets and a code of conduct during work.
The 2024 Road House remake features several callbacks and references to the original 1989 film. Despite being a remake, Road House (2024) attempts to etch its own identity by adopting several original story elements and plot devices. For instance, it brings a contemporary spin to Dalton's backstory by portraying him as a former UFC fighter. Unlike Patrick Swayze's Dalton, who has his mentor Wade Garrett by his side, Jake Gyllenhaal's Dalton in Road House is also portrayed as a lone wolf who intentionally avoids getting too close to people.

However, the recent Doug Liman-directed remake from Amazon MGM Studios brought new life to the fan-favorite. Road House stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Daniela Melchior recently sat down with Cbr's Kevin Polowy to discuss the film, including the origin of an iconic shot from the trailer featuring Gyllenhaal showing off his shredded physique during a grueling workout.

Remember Baz Luhrmann’s early 2000 film about romance and music in Paris? Yes, we are referring to the 2001 release of the jukebox musical Moulin Rouge!, which film critic Roger Ebert once likened to “being trapped on an elevator with the circus”.
In the 2001 flick, we saw English writer Christian (Ewan McGregor) pen his love story on his typewriter as he mourned the loss of his beloved Satine (Nicole Kidman). Modern reinterpretation of classic '80s movies, like the Amazon Prime Road House remake, can be successful and pave the way for more updates. A Cocktail remake could improve on the original's flaws with strong lead, action, and romance, following the success of Road House. Including a Tom Cruise cameo in a Cocktail remake could honor the original's legacy and capitalize on nostalgia for the '80s film.
The success of the Amazon Prime Road House remake perfectly demonstrates that a modern take on an oft-forgotten Tom Cruise movie from 36 years ago could also benefit from a modern reinterpretation. While far from perfect, Road House's reviews are good enough to validate the remake's existence, while also paving the way for other classic '80s movies to receive the update treatment. Additionally, the Road House 2 tease, suggests the entertainment industry isn't quite done with modernizing classic action thrillers, further highlighting...

While Gyllenhaal’s film reminded fans of the original, many seemed to have forgotten the straight-to-dvd sequel. Road House 2 featured none of the original cast and was written by Johnathon Schaech, who also starred in the film. The film was panned by critics at the time, with many calling it a mess.

After Road House in 1989, Patrick Swayze continued acting in hits like Ghost, Point Break, To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, and Donnie Darko, before passing away in 2009. Sam Elliott maintained a successful acting career after Road House, starring in popular shows like The Ranch and the Yellowstone prequel, 1883. He became the only Oscar-nominated star from Road House when he received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance in the 2018 A Star Is Born remake. In addition to Swayze, several other Road House stars have since passed, including Ben Gazzara, Red West, Jeff Healey, and Sunshine Parker.
After starring in the original Road House movie in 1989, most of the cast continued acting for many years. 1989's Road House stars 36-year-old Patrick Swayze as Dalton, a tough bouncer who makes some enemies while trying to keep the peace at a rowdy bar in Missouri called the Double Deuce. The...

It’s no secret that Jake Gyllenhaal’s Oscar snub for his performance in 2014’s Nightcrawler was considered by many as an atrocious crime, but the fact that the actor has only received one nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2005’s Brokeback Mountain is even more appalling.
Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler
No one, indeed, has any explanation for why the Oscars so actively avoids Gyllenhaal and his incredible body of works. He is one of the most prolific stars of this generation, yet he is still in the league of the most snubbed actors of all time.
Jake Gyllenhaal Starved Himself For Nightcrawler
The world of Nightcrawler is found in Los Angeles at night, where stringers go out to film accidents and crime scenes and sell them to the local news. Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, Louis Bloom, becomes the symbol that draws the line between unethical journalism and consumer demand.

Sam Elliott was 43 years old in the original Road House, despite Wade Garrett's reputation as an old man past his prime. Patrick Swayze was 36 years old when he played Dalton in Road House, which helped him portray a physically able and experienced cooler. Jake Gyllenhaal was older than Swayze when he played Dalton in the Road House remake, as he turned 42 during filming.

Cuban coffee is stronger, sweeter, and thicker than black coffee, brewed with sugar in a Moka Pot. The Road House remake's setting in Florida led to serving Cuban coffee instead of black coffee. Gyllenhaal's character's preference for Cuban coffee in the remake pays homage to Swayze's love for black coffee.
The 2024 Road House remake has made way for an interesting debate over the difference between Cuban and black coffee, thanks to Jake Gyllenhaal’s Elwood Dalton asking for the latter and getting the former. Rowdy Herrington’s 1989 action film Road House, starring Patrick Swayze as professional bouncer James Dalton, has now joined the remakes and reboots trend. Directed by Doug Liman and starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter-turned-bouncer, Road House amplified the action of Swayze’s 1989 version while also adding more comedic bits, along with various references to the first movie.

Dalton's new UFC fighter backstory in Road House 2024 adds depth to his character and sets up a different narrative from the original. Jake Gyllenhaal's Dalton mirrors Swayze's version with a guilty past, showing growth and redemption through his actions in the film. The essence and honor code of both Daltons remain consistent, with each facing conflict in their respective eras but with different personal struggles.
With a new rendition of Road House comes a new origin story, and Jake Gyllenhaal's Dalton comes with an original backstory. Directed by The Bourne Identity's Doug Liman, the modern remake ultimately follows similar beats to the classic 1989 movie, which starred Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott. The 2024 version modernizes certain elements of the story, including Dalton's backstory, though one of the reasons for the new Road House's critical acclaim is that it simultaneously pays homage to the original in the essence of its narrative.

People adore Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine if the excitement surrounding the news of Deadpool 3 was any indication. With just a few movie credits under his belt prior to landing the role of one of Marvel’s most adored comic book characters, the Australian actor, 55, completely changed the character’s status quo in popular culture with his fierce interpretation.
Nevertheless, Jackman possesses multiple dimensions as an actor, much like how Wolverine has changed over the course of his numerous roles. But Prisoners was the one film that really stood out from the rest, at least in the eyes of his fans.

Road House stunt coordinator Garrett Warren came up with a clever means of making the remake’s fights look realistic without breaking any bones.
Whether or not you think it’s sacrilege to remake the 1989 cult favourite, Road House, it’s arguable that director Doug Liman directed his fight scenes with gleeful rawness – faces are pummelled, bodies are sent crashing through tables, and backsides are well and truly kicked.
It’s possible that Liman’s full-frontal method of shooting his hand-to-hand combat scenes may have left you wondering: how do you make it look as though UFC star Conor McGregor’s just punched Jake Gyllenhaal square in the face without landing the Hollywood star in hospital?
Shared on Twitter over the weekend, a brief clip shows off an intriguing method that stunt coordinator Garrett Warren came up with for the production – what he calls the ‘four-pass’ or ‘Abcd method’.

Back to the Future is often hailed as one of the timeless classics in the realm of the sci-fi genre. It was not the first film that introduced the concept of time travel, and certainly, it won’t be the last with this similar idea. However, what sets this film apart is how much love it has garnered from the fans.
A still from Back to the Future
The film was unique in its very core, as it not only introduced a light and easy-to-understand plot but also intriguing gadgets that viewers desired to have. One of them is Nike Mag, which set the trend with its sleek design and self-lacing technology. The sneaker became a coveted item for sneakerheads, who were drawn by it, however, its price stopped it from being in the collection of the richest collectors and even Conor McGregor and Jake Gyllenhaal were astounded to hear its price.

Jake Gyllenhaal's Dalton is a former UFC fighter, while Swayze's is a seasoned cooler who has reached the status of an urban legend. The remake explores Dalton's darker side, whereas the original doesn't go into much depth about Dalton's guilt-riddled past. Gyllenhaal's Dalton has a broader comedic style, but Swayze also gets some funny one-liners.
In Amazon Prime Video's remake of Road House, Jake Gyllenhaal plays a character made famous by Patrick Swayze, but these two versions of Dalton have some important differences. Each Dalton is subtly crafted to fit the needs of their story. They are both coolers with an otherworldly talent for knocking yokels unconscious, and they are both haunted by traumatic events from their violent pasts. However, their similarities are only skin deep, as each version of Dalton has their own motivations, their own backstories, and their own personality traits.
There are a few obvious differences between the two.

If the stars align, Jake Gyllenhaal could serve more knuckle sandwiches as Dalton for a potential Road House 2. The hard-hitting re-imagining of the Rowdy Herrington-directed action film grabbed viewers by the seat of their pants this past weekend, with 121.5 minutes of the new movie streamed on Prime Video, according to Luminate. While Road House director Doug Liman is perhaps not in Prime Video’s best standing after boycotting the film’s SXSW premiere (Liman eventually did attend the screening), the feature still had a successful launch. With more to the story teased in a post-credits scene, Raod House fans wonder if Gyllenhaal could return for a Road House 2. Thankfully, ScreenRant went straight to the horse’s mouth to find out if Gyllenhaal would throw more punches in a sequel.

Dalton's final UFC fight is a key chapter in his backstory, leading him on a dark path toward self-destruction. Knox snapping Brandt's neck signifies that he has taken over as the main antagonist. Dalton's strategic throat-punch to kill Vince shows he's stopped suppressing his killer instincts.

Mending the Line is a solid study of Ptsd and guilt with strong performances from Brian Cox, Sinqua Walls, Wes Studi, and others. Beautiful cinematography in Montana sets a warm and relaxing mood for the film. While a bit predictable, the film's deep moments and universal themes make it stand out from other melodramas. Its use of fly fishing, too, creates a great allegory.
It’s a bit of a surreal head-scratcher watching the first hour of director Joshua Caldwell’s Mending the Line, mostly because of Brian Cox. That’s not a bad thing at all, and undoubtedly, Cox’s presence works in this film’s favor. In Jon Watts' 2019 film "Spider-Man: Far from Home," Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is tempted to cede control of a newly-bequeathed orbital missile network to an alleged interdimensional traveler nicknamed Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Mysterio mentions that he's a superhero from a parallel timeline and that Earth is only now starting to reach into other dimensions. Mysterio's story will later prove to be a lie, yet the notion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe multiverse was implanted in people's minds (building off its brief mention in "Doctor Strange").
That multiverse idea was then hammered home in the film's epilogue. After the day was saved and Mysterio was defeated, Spider-Man's secret identity was brazenly revealed on international TV by none other than J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons), a character not seen since Sam Raimi's 2007 film "Spider-Man 3." Raimi's films, it should be noted, are in a separate continuity from the MCU "Spider-Man" movies.

McKenna Grace reprises her lead role as Phoebe in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which led the weekend box office with $45 million. At 17 she is not yet a household name, but she laid some groundwork early: At age six she had a supporting role on the Disney Channel sitcom “Crash & Bernstein.” Later she received an Emmy nomination for her work in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and portrayed the younger selves for the leads in movies like “I, Tonya” and “Captain Marvel.”
Her “Ghostbusters” co-star is Finn Wolfhard, who made his debut at 13 in CW’s “Supernatural” before starring in “Stranger Things” and “It.” Zendaya, star of “Dune: Part Two,” got her start as a Disney Channel regular. Her co-star, Oscar-nominated Austin Butler, cut his teeth at Nickelodeon.
It’s a strange juxtaposition: Child actors are currently at the forefront of the uncomfortable but necessary conversation centered in Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz...

Road House (2024) is a faithful yet original remake, but lacks a nod to the iconic throat-ripping scene from the 1989 film. The fight scenes in the newer movie are less intense and crazy compared to the ridiculous action sequences in the original. While Dalton wins by stabbing Knox in Road House (2024), an earlier scene in the film featuring Dalton punching a goon in the throat is a subtle reference to the 1989 film's throat-ripping moment.
Road House (2024) is a remake of the 1989 film of the same name, and while it is a faithful yet original recreation of its predecessor, the newer movie should have included a nod to the original's most shocking (and ridiculous) moment. The 2024 action film, directed by Doug Liman and written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry, chronicles an ex-UFC fighter – Jake Gyllenhaal's Elwood Dalton – accepting a job at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys, where violence is the norm.

The Ides of March were marked this year by a three-way race among high profile filmmakers – Peter Farrelly, Doug Liman and Guy Ritchie – with original streaming film and TV series debuts across Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. But the sleeper success story of the week belonged to Netflix’s Lindsay Lohan rom com movie “Irish Wish.”
Ritchie made a splashy debut on March 7 with Netflix’s “The Gentlemen,” an eight-episode TV heist drama delivered in the director’s signature style. In its second week, “Gentlemen” had solid hold with a modest 30% decline to 1.3 billion minutes watched during the March 15-21 frame, according to original streaming content ratings calculated by Luminate.
