Amazon’s Prime Video platform will broadcast the Australian Swimming Championships, in Adelaide next month, as part of a two-year deal with Swimming Australia. The company will use a roster of celebrity commentators to give a high profile to its continuing foray into the sports sector.
The deal with Swimming Australia is the first partnership Amazon has had in Australia for sports, other than sports documentaries.
The streaming giant has a patchwork of sportscasting in other territories – in India, for example it currently has a mixture women’s basketball and some cricket, having previously carried major tennis tournaments and English soccer. It finds itself in competition with incumbent free-tv channels, pay-tv operators for which live sports is a lifeblood, and a growing number of specialist sports streamers.

Wentworth Miller talks to Details about coming out last year: “I feel more fully expressed. After Prison Break, I came to grips with the fact that my public persona was in misalignment with how I actually felt. I was out to a handful of people in my twenties, and once I hit 30, I was out to family and friends. But professionally, I was feeding a fantasy. I created this air of “We don’t address that thing.”

The London Olympics will be available to free to air viewers in HD, Nine has revealed.
The announcement came as part of Nine’s launch event for its first coverage of the Games since winning the rights from Seven. The Olympics begin in late July and run into August.
In common with rivals Seven and Ten, Nine’s main channel is in standard definition only. But for the duration of the games, it will be simulcasting with Gem which is in high definition.
Meanwhile, partly because of the time difference with the UK, Nine’s Olympics will be on virtually around the clock.
This includes competition coverage from 6.30pm through the night to 9am. This will then be followed by a two hours highlights compilation which will also air again in the afternoon.
Although the Today show will not air during the Olympics, presenters Karl Stefanovic, Lisa Wilkinson and Cameron Williams...

The Australian Olympic swimmer, who has twins Jagger and Charlize with wife Candice Alley, admitted that he and Alley dealt with some "private issues" after spending the day at a Melbourne Cup event, which resulted in eight squad cars arriving to find the apartment in disarray. Hackett told the Herald Sun: "The events of Saturday evening were very much unfortunate and out of character for me. There has been speculation about Candice and I and our personal property, which is all fine. "I am overwhelmingly embarrassed and apologetic and look forward (more)...

Grant Hackett and Candice Alley have revealed that they are suffering from sleep deprivation. The Australian swimmer and his popstar wife, who had twins Charlize and Jagger in September, said that they would love to get 23 hours of sleep for their Christmas presents. "I’d love to get a solid eight hours at the moment, but I could do with 23," Hackett told Woman's Day magazine. "At the moment, we're getting a few hours of broken sleep a night. I was up at 4.45am every morning during my swimming career, so it's almost like I'm getting back to that again!" Alley said: (more)...
