Amy Adams has been in development with Nightbitch for over a year, but details have now started to surface as the neo-horror film has recently released a new poster from Searchlight Pictures. The film has been written and directed by Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), Nightbitch is based on a novel by Rachel Yoder. The film will tell the story of “a suburban mom thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler. As she embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood, she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a dog.”
Adams plays that possibly canine housewife. Scoot McNairy (Monsters) is also in the cast, playing her “oft-traveling husband,” while Mary Holland, who is best known for appearing in the Netflix release Senior Year and for co-writing and co-starring in Clea DuVall’s romantic comedy Happiest Season, takes on an unspecified role.

Marielle Heller is a young American filmmaker known for her debut feature The Diary of a Teenage Girl, as well as for the Tom Hanks-led A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, which told the story of Fred Rogers, one of America’s most famous television presenters. Well, the filmmaker has taken on a new project, which will be released later this year, and we can already confirm that it will be something wholly different than Heller’s work so far, but with the cast involved and the surreal story, it promises to be a very exciting feature.
The movie in question is going to be titled Nightbitch, and it is slated for a December 6, 2024 release. The movie will be based on the eponymous book by Rachel Yoder, which deals with the issues of motherhood from a very surreal and different perspective, showing how it can be both horrid and hilarious at the same time.

The religious horror movie Immaculate, starring Sydney Sweeney and directed by Michael Mohan, wears its horror influences on its sleeves. Neon’s new horror movie is now available on Digital and PVOD, making it easier to catch up with the buzzy title. If you’ve already seen Immaculate, this companion watch guide highlights horror movies to pair with it.
Sweeney stars in Immaculate as Cecilia, a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Cecilia’s warm welcome to the picture-perfect Italian countryside gets derailed soon enough when she discovers she’s become pregnant and realizes the convent harbors disturbing secrets.
From Will Bates’ gothic score to the filming locations and even shot compositions, Immaculate owes a lot to its cinematic influences. Mohan pulls from more than just religious horror, though. While Immaculate pays tribute to the classics, the horror movie surprises...

Based on what I can gather about her new film, At the Sea, Amy Adams needs a pair of sandals and a stiff drink. Adams is teaming up with Kornel Mundruczó and Kata Wéber – the director and writer of Pieces of a Woman and White God – for a new drama about rejuvenation and adjusting to a life you had not planned to live.
According to Deadline, At the Sea finds Adams’s Laura returning to her family at their holiday beach house after a long rehabilitation. Once there, Laura must readjust to her new lot in life, still haunted by aspects she tried to leave behind. Staring down the barrel of a new chapter of her life, Laura must cope without her fame, fortune, and, of all things, her identity.
Adams, a six-time Academy Award-nominated actress, recently wrapped production on the sci-fi drama Klara and the Sun, which Taika Waititi directs.

Out this week in theaters is Radio Silence’s Abigail, a heist-turned-bloodbath when kidnappers realize the child ballerina they’ve snatched isn’t quite human. That the petite vampire is a ballerina feels apt. After all, the deceptive art form has a reputation for dainty elegance that belies the sheer grueling dedication of its performers, both physically and mentally.
Ballet requires a high level of dedication to practice and performance and frequently spills over into body horror through broken toenails, stress fractures, and overuse injuries. In other words, ballet is often a mix of pain and beauty, which means it pairs well with horror.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to ballerinas in horror.
These horror movies feature at least one ballerina tormented by her art form, highlighting the stark, beguiling contrast between beauty and horror. Here’s where you can stream them now.

Timothée Chalamet is by far one of the most promising young actors working in Hollywood today, after his standout performances in films like Call Me By Your Name, Little Women, and Dune. The actor has become one of the biggest stars in the film industry and after his recent performance as Duke Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two, he is sure to become a household name worldwide. So, if you love Chalamet’s performances here are the best movies Chalamet has appeared in and just to warn you, we didn’t include Interstellar in this list because Chalamet’s role in Christopher Nolan was not that big or significant.

Chalamet takes on the challenging role of the iconic Willy Wonka. Directed by Paul King, Wonka is a musical fantasy film and it follows a young Wonka before he was running the chocolate factory.

Plot: After attending a high school reunion, a woman (Jessica Chastain) is followed home by a man (Peter Sarsgaard) with whom she has a history. Initially upset and thinking he’s a stalker, she learns that he has dementia and that if they have a history together, he can’t remember it.
Review: Michel Franco is a director whose work has grown steadily in stature over the last few years. I became aware of him after watching his class warfare drama New Order in 2020 and then his dark 2021 Tim Roth drama, Sundown. Both of those films were grim, and one might assume Memory, which deals with early onset dementia, sexual assault, and alcoholism, might be the same. While heavy, Franco’s made a profoundly empathetic and unlikely love story brilliantly acted by stars Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard.

Michel Franco’s particular brand of austere fatalism often hinges on the abrupt punishment of his characters. The Mexican shock auteur’s latest, Memory, certainly begins as if it’s setting audiences up for a similar sucker punch. Sitting sullenly by her lonesome at her high school reunion, Sylvia (Jessica Chastain), a social worker and single mother, is approached by Saul (Peter Sarsgaard), who had been eyeing her intently from across the room. At this, Sylvia hastily gets up and leaves, only for Saul to follow her all the way to her home. It’s a journey that Franco’s camera tracks in an unsettlingly placid manner. With little-to-no knowledge of who these two people are, we await the worst to happen.
When Sylvia wakes up the next morning to find Saul outside her Sunset Park apartment in a confused haze after sleeping on the rain-soaked sidewalk, Memory begins to...

Jessica Chastain is a caretaker with demons in Michel Franco’s “Memory,” the most touching and sensitive film in the career of the director of apocalyptic nightmares like “New Order” and the school bullying revenge drama “After Lucia.”
Chastain stars as Sylvia, a decade-sober alcoholic and social worker now taking care of Saul, a former high-school classmate played by Peter Sarsgaard, under strange circumstances. Sarsgaard won the Volpi Cup (the equivalent of Best Actor) at the Venice Film Festival for his performance as a man rattled by dementia, who follows Sylvia home from a class reunion. They’re across boroughs in New York City, but form an unlikely spark around their traumas, past and present. Sylvia lives with her daughter, played by Brooke Timber, and not far from a nosy but caring sister, played by Merritt Wever, but is chained to awful memories revolving around her mother, played by “Suspiria” icon Jessica Harper.

Jessica Chastain plays a social worker and single mother whose structured life is thrown into chaos when a young man dealing with dementia, played by Peter Sarsgaard, follows her home from their high school reunion in the trailer for Memory, which dropped Tuesday.
Michel Franco’s austere family drama about trauma and connection has Chastain playing Sylvia. Because the fall festivals had fewer actors and writers on hand due to the strikes, more independent movies came into the season looking for buyers. And even with AMPTP buyers getting cold feet on some with interim agreements, many titles have already found homes, making it one of the busiest fall festival seasons across Venice, Toronto, and Telluride in recent memory.

For Halloween, Guardian writers look back at their biggest movie nightmares, from The Omen to It Follows
There are major spoilers ahead
Dario Argento’s equally gorgeous and grotesque Suspiria is here to cure anybody of their scary-movie snobbery. In this masterpiece, Suzy Bannion (Jessica Harper) is a graceful and wide-eyed American who shows up at the Tanz Academy, an elite ballet school in the shadows of the Black Forest. Whoever dreamed up this august institution, with its sumptuous art nouveau decor and gaudily vivid hues, may as well have written the Wes Anderson playbook. Young women float by in gauzy get-ups and then, one by one, they disappear. The creepy-crawly atmosphere has Suzy on edge from the jump – and interludes with a Dr Feelgood and a case of maggots falling from the ceiling do little to calm her nerves. I’ve always defended Michel Franco, not that he requires further support from numerous areas of the industry. But he’s been something of a critical punching bag and dartboard target since his rise to relative acclaim, his festival placements and jury awards not translating to similarly good ink, or unignorable theatrical exposure. An important factor is the hangover from Haneke’s reign as the most influential Euro-festival auteur and attendant backlash that arose towards his punitive sensibility, especially those that imitated it. Franco, who first developed his career in the Mexican arthouse world, does indeed initiate a certain type of pain, but also much empathy.
Akin to Östlund, and especially Lanthimos, Franco has begun naturally integrating himself into a transnational mode, skipping between production scales and national tongues at ease. And Jessica Chastain, having now shot a second feature with him (under a SAG-AFTRA waiver), is threatening to become his Emma Stone.

Jessica Chastain stars in Michel Franco’s Memory and some people had been putting thoughts in his head that this collaboration would not happen after she won at the Oscars.
“Because I have been doing bigger things sometimes and have gotten a lot of attention as of late, [there’s been the idea] that I would not be interested in being on a set without a trailer,” Chastain said during an interview at TIFF (via IndieWire). “We had the Oscars, and I won for Tammy Faye, and then right after that, I showed up on set to do Memory. Michel said that a lot of people told him, ‘Oh Jessica is going to leave your film because she just won an Oscar.’”

It’s time for Peter Sarsgaard to finally shatter the Oscar glass.
Once upon a time, actor Peter Sarsgaard won the most precursors prizes during the 2003-2004 awards season for his supporting turn in Billy Ray’s “Shattered Glass.” In the film, he plays Charles Lane, a newly promoted editor who suspects one of his revered writers (played by Hayden Christensen) could have fabricated some of his stories. It was a breakout performance in the early days of online Oscar punditry that had everyone buzzing. However, when it came time for the major televised ceremonies, he was only able to muster a Golden Globe nod, then to be followed by shocking snubs from SAG, BAFTA and eventually the Academy Awards.

With three competition titles across the last four editions, no contemporary filmmaker has been more present on the Venice Lido than director Michel Franco.
The Mexican auteur returned to the Venice competition last night with his latest title, Memory, a taut New York City-set drama with scorching performances from Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard.
In the pic, Chastain plays Sylvia, a social worker who leads a simple and structured life: her daughter, her job, and her AA meetings. But all is blown open when Saul (Sarsgaard) follows her home from their high school reunion. Their surprise encounter will profoundly impact both of them as they open the door to the past.
“I immediately knew I wanted to be a part of it,” Chastain said of her response after reading Franco’s screenplay.

The title of Michel Franco’s laser-like drama about trauma and connection, Memory, embraces past experiences inescapably real or distorted, repressed or lost forever, reachable only intermittently through haze or insistently demanding to be reckoned with. While hope is a quality not readily associated with the Mexican auteur’s work, it keeps surfacing here to extend a lifeline, even as we wait for the other shoe to drop. In that regard, Franco’s latest represents a slight departure, without surrendering the director’s signature austerity and intensity. He’s helped considerably by Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard, two riveting leads who hold nothing back.
Shot by Franco’s regular Dp Yves Cape with a no-fuss, unblinking gaze, the film has a textured feel for its Brooklyn locations, giving clear definition to the characters’ world. It also benefits from an unusually solid supporting cast, including Merritt Wever and Josh Charles; Jessica Harper...

“Memory” feels like the “Silver Linings Playbook” of Michel Franco’s career: an unexpectedly accessible romance between two damaged human beings, from an independent director who’s been known to put characters through some of life’s most punishing indignities. For those familiar with Franco’s work, the previous film it most resembles is “Chronic,” though the tough-love auteur spares us the bummer ending this time around. In that movie, he followed a hospice nurse through his rounds, then abruptly cut to black when the guy was sideswiped by a car. Womp-womp. When a director does that early in his career, audiences are right to be wary.
Franco is more merciful to his characters in “Memory.” Before meeting one another at a high school reunion, recovering alcoholic Sylvia (Jessica Chastain) and widower Saul (Peter Sarsgaard) have endured more than their share of suffering. She remembers being sexually abused as a girl,...

Editor’s note: This review was originally published at the 2023 Venice Film Festival. Ketchup Entertainment releases the film in select theaters on Friday, December 22, with expansion to follow on Friday, January 5.
Michel Franco’s “Memory” is in the tradition of movies about broken people coming together, with all the heartbreak and melodrama required.
But “Memory” bucks the tradition of the cold films previously made by the director of the apocalyptic 99-percent-uprising thriller “New Order” and high-school bullying drama “After Lucia.” They’re films that seem calm at the outset, but you wait for the other blood-dipped shoe to drop. That shoe never quite hits the ground in the peculiar and sensitive “Memory,” which stars Jessica Chastain as a 13-years-sober alcoholic who reconnects with a former school classmate, Saul (played by Peter Sarsgaard), at a reunion she doesn’t want to be at anyway.
Saul, as we eventually learn, has a...

"I didn't think this is what we were doing?" "What were we doing?" Paramount has debuted the full-length trailer for the new Fatal Attraction series arriving later in April. Described as a "fresh take" on the 1987 erotic thriller film of the same name that starred Michael Douglas and Glenn Close. “In the film, Alex is the villain of the story, and Dan is the hero and there is no gray area,” Caplan states. This Paramount+ series is a "deep-dive" reimagining of the classic 80's thriller, twisting things around, but also exploring the timeless themes of marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes toward strong women, personality disorders and coercive control. Joshua Jackson & Lizzy Caplan star in Fatal Attraction, with Amanda Peet, Alyssa Jirrels, Toby Huss, Reno Wilson, Brian Goodman, Wanda De Jesus, and Jessica Harper. This has some spicy scenes and hints at the twists & turns in this version,...

At the 2022 global box office so far, every movie in the top 10 is a sequel. Every single one of them.
Film fans often gripe that Hollywood has no imagination. Ah, the innocence of non-pros! They don’t understand that Hollywood is simply giving the audience what they want. It’s a business, and sequels/franchises keep the lights on at the studios.
But there are some who persuaded the money people to take big risks. So let’s salute the filmmakers and studios that didn’t play it safe this year.

Suspiria remake (watch it Here) director Luca Guadagnino’s horror film / cannibal love story Bones and All has received good reviews – it’s sitting at 82 positive on Rotten Tomatoes, and our own JimmyO gave the film an 8/10 review you can read at This Link. But it’s not the sort of movie that was ever going to set the box office on fire, and it has pulled in just 11 million during its three weeks of release. So it’s no surprise that United Artists will be sending the movie to PVOD on December 13th.
Bones and All is in good company, as IndieWire reports that major awards season contenders The Banshees of Inisherin and The Fabelmans (a box office failure directed by Steven Spielberg) will also be reaching PVOD on the same date.

Adapted from the award-winning novel by Camille DeAngelis, Luca Guadagnino’s “Bones and All” is about two cannibals, Lee and Maren (Timothee Chalamet and Taylor Russell), who fall in love while evading the police and, worse, others with a similar taste for human flesh. Blending horror, romance, and road movies, the film is a delectable cocktail of grammars; in a recent webchat with Gold Derby’s Daniel Montgomery, writer David Kajganich said he found the third hardest to nail. Those who’ve compared the film to classics like “Bonnie and Clyde” and “Badlands” clearly feel he’s struck the right alchemy. Click through our gallery above featuring “Bones and All” plus 10 other movies you should watch about lovers on the run.
Part of the challenge was emulating a road movie’s “tone poem” and punctuating the story with characters who organically impart a wealth of detail in only a few brief moments.

Spare a little sympathy for the cannibals of Luca Guadagnino’s Bones and All. They’re stuck in a sticky situation: when everyone’s a killer, who do you trust? Maren (Taylor Russell) is a young woman possessed by an ungodly hunger. She’s been abandoned by her father (André Holland), who leaves her with nothing but a tape cassette and the promise that, though he didn’t love her as a father should, at least he didn’t hate her. She has no memories or photos of her mother, the one who passed down this ravenous impulse. So Maren has to make her own way through the world, forging uneasy alliances with the other cannibals who cross her path.
What follows is a road trip movie of both vast, quixotic yearning and sickly claustrophobia. It’s as beautiful as it is ugly, a full-force fusion of Guadagnino’s last two films,...

This review originally ran September 2, 2022, in conjunction with the film’s world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
You’ve got to hand it to Luca Guadagnino — the man cannot coast. So ever since the Italian filmmaker found himself on the American prestige track, he’s done just about anything to get the hell off. Remake “Suspiria” as a somber meditation on historical memory and survivor’s guilt? Ok, sure – but only with Tilda Swinton in old man drag, so people won’t take things too seriously.
Reunite “Call Me By Your Name” players Timothée Chalamet and Michael Stuhlbarg for a new coming-of-age film? Great! Make it a cannibal road movie with over-the-top gore — that’ll show the hoi polloi.
But it turns out that the joke’s on Guadagnino — because at the Venice Film Festival on Friday, the audience ate “Bones and All” up.

Plot: A young woman falls in love with an enigmatic stranger. He is someone who shares her taste for human flesh. Together, they struggle to survive in a world that doesn’t understand them.
Review: Bones and All is just your typical, flesh-eating cannibals fall-in-love type of romance. You know, the kind where a girl meets a boy, and then they eat people. Not too familiar, perhaps, but nothing filmmaker Luca Guadagnino does, is. His latest is a strange and dreamy romantic drama, yet one that slips in and out of horror in intriguing ways. Thoughtful, quirky, and unconventional, the film features excellent performances from its leads, Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet. And then there is Mark Rylance, who brings on the weird as a fellow named Sully. Let’s dig into the meat of this one, shall we?
