An irrepressible gag man, he supplied many of the wisecracks and put-downs that added fizz to MGM's Golden Age comedies. The screen images of Clark Gable, Jean Harlow, Lee Tracy, William Powell and Myrna Loy all benefited from his usually uncredited verbal fireworks.
