- Following his work on The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), MGM briefly considered him for a lead role in its re-make of Ben-Hur (1959), which were ultimately filled by Charlton Heston, portraying Judah Ben-Hur, and Stephen Boyd as Messala, and like in "Kwai," would also have been co-starring with Jack Hawkins.
- Began studying with Lee Strasberg in 1954 in NYC, where he became a member of the Actor's Studio in 1956 and later taught acting there.
