In previous articles, we have taken a look at stars of the past we would like to see make a comeback – and there are a lot of them! It was too hard to narrow it down to just a few, so now we’ve put together another list of 80s stars we want back, including a couple of Freddy victims, some 1980s beauties we miss, and a lady we’ve only seen twice on our screens.

It’s a sad tale of a promising career being kneecapped by bad luck… actually, by a bad movie. Playing the character Swan in the 1979 classic The Warriors, Michael Beck proved he had what it took to be a badass leading man. When "Pet Sematary" was published in 1983, it came with a killer marketing hook: it was billed as the book that was so scary it even frightened its author, Stephen King. Whether or not that was true was immaterial; it was too good to ignore — Stephen King, the master of horror, had penned something that scared even him! To hear King tell it, which he has numerous times over the years, he found the book so disturbing — particularly its ultra-dark subject matter — that he stuffed it in a drawer, only to later pull it out to fill a contractual obligation. I'm a big Stephen King fan, and "Pet Sematary" is my favorite King novel. My first encounter with the material wasn't the book, though — it was Mary Lambert's 1989 film adaptation.

The 1994 horror movie "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" was the seventh film in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series, and featured one of the cleverest conceits for a horror sequel. The vicious supernatural serial killer Freddy Krueger — able to kill his victims from inside their dreams — somehow escaped the surly bounds of fiction and began stalking the actors and filmmakers who made the original "The Nightmare on Elm Street" a decade prior. Heather Langenkamp appears as herself, as does Robert Englund, John Saxon, Craven, and New Line Cinema bigwig Robert Shaye. Langenkamp did have a young child in 1994 — her late son Daniel Atticus Anderson was born in 1991 — but in the movie, Langenkamp's child was named Jacob and played by actor Miko Hughes.
Prior to "New Nightmare," the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series had become increasingly outlandish and cartoony. Freddy was no longer a menacing murderer, but a comedic supervillain who dispatched his victims in creative,...

The documentary features a host of horror icons including Robert Englund himself, as well as...

‘Dylan’s New Nightmare’ – Fan Film Sequel to ‘New Nightmare’ Starring Miko Hughes Is Worth Your Time
I have mixed feelings on fan films. I’d prefer to see indie filmmakers invest their resources in an original concept rather than someone else’s intellectual property, but I also understand the reality that content with an established fanbase guarantees more engagement. Moreover, when beloved properties like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th become entangled in ongoing legal disputes, fan films can sate viewers’ hunger for more.
Even if a new Elm Street movie is produced with Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, it’s highly unlikely to acknowledge the events of New Nightmare, given its blurring of the lines between fiction and reality. (Freddy vs Jason ignored it as well.) YouTuber-turned-writer/director Cecil Laird teamed with producer Vincente Disanti — the filmmaker behind the popular Friday the 13th fan film Never Hike Alone — to fill that void with Dylan’s New Nightmare: A Nightmare on Elm Street Fan Film.

(Welcome to Scariest Scene Ever, a column dedicated to the most pulse-pounding moments in horror with your tour guides, horror experts Chris Evangelista and Matt Donato. In this edition, Chris advises you not to play in the road with "Pet Sematary" 1989.)
We here at Scariest Scene Ever Industries often try to tie our spooky little column to a big new release hitting theaters the same week. And this week, the biggest movie arriving on the big screen is "Fast X," in which cars go vroom. With that in mind, I wanted to do something car-or-vehicle-related. And while there are many options for that — John Carpenter's "Christine," the big pileup from "Final Destination 2," and so on — I landed on one of the most memorable horror movie moments of all time: the untimely death of Gage Creed from "Pet Sematary." When it comes to the golden era of slasher films, most will say it was the 1980s, but the 1990s are not to be ignored as they brought us an amazing bunch of films and some that redefined the sub-genre (including one that’s getting a fifth sequel this weekend). Here’s our list of the Best 90s Slasher Films:
Wishmaster (1997)
This one is considered a fantasy slasher, so it’s a bit controversial as to if it is a slasher or not. For this list, let’s consider it one. It’s fantastic and Andrew Divoff is 98% of why it’s so good. This film is his and he makes it the best it could be. His work is both charming and menacing, giving his character an aura that makes the whole film what it is. It’s creepy, it has great kills, and the cameos in this one are to die for.

It’s time for a new episode of our Revisited video series, and with this one we’re looking back at a film that been disturbing and terrifying viewers for over thirty years now. It’s the 1989 Stephen King adaptation Pet Sematary (watch it Here), and you can find out what we had to say about it by checking out the video embedded above!
Based on King’s 1983 novel, Pet Sematary was directed by Mary Lambert from a screenplay King wrote himself. The film has the following synopsis:
Doctor Louis Creed moves his family to Maine, where he meets a friendly local named Jud Crandall. After the Creeds’ cat is accidentally killed, Crandall advises Louis to bury it in the ground near the old pet cemetery. The cat returns to life, its personality changed for the worse. Grief is a common thread in many horror films. It often plays a minor role in the film, or as you'll see from our list, grief lies at the heart of a film's emotional core. It drives the story forward and grounds the character(s) in realism when spooky things start to happen. In dealing with the supernatural, the occult, a masked killer, or any manner of other genre foes, the protagonists learn how to finally process their grief and slay their demons. The external forces are sometimes the least of their worries.
For the sake of our list, we take a look at grief as a direct response to death. Grief, as we know, can result from any sort of loss, from the death of a pet to a lost friendship. Below, we picked through decades of films to compile the 14 best titles depicting grief, each possessing a mood and approach all their own.

Rock and Shock served as New England’s premier horror convention for 16 wonderful years before its reign came to an unexpected end in 2019. While several other events admirably attempted to occupy the void left in the local horror community, none were quite able to fill Rock and Shock’s sizeable shoes.
If its debut is any indication, Silver Scream Con is, at long last, a worthy successor to the throne. Created by Massachusetts’ own horror-inspired metal band Ice Nine Kills, the first ever Silver Scream Con took place August 26-28 at the Doubletree Boston North Shore in Danvers, Ma.
Rock and Shock catered to the intersection of music and horror, but with Ice Nine Kills’ rabid cult following behind it, Silver Scream Con brought in a new audience beyond die-hard genre fans. Informal polls conducted before each panel consistently showed that more than half of the attendees were at their first horror convention.

Lindsey Beer will direct Paramount Player’s follow-up adaptation of 2019’s “Pet Sematary,” based on Stephen King’s bestseller, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
Beer also wrote the most recent script based off a draft by Jeff Buhler. The film will debut exclusively on Paramount+. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian will produce.
Plot details are being kept under wraps.
The film was announced in February as part of the studio’s new push to move original content to the relaunched streamer.
King wrote the book in 1983, which was adapted into a film in 1989 and in 2019. The 1989 film was directed by Mary Lambert and starred Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby, Blaze Berdahl, Fred Gwynne and Miko Hughes. It grossed $57.5 million on a budget of $11.5 million, and a sequel was released in 1992.

Mary Lambert had directed mainly music videos when she took the job helming “Pet Sematary” in 1989. It was her second feature film, after 1987’s Ellen Barkin starrer “Siesta.” But Lambert had read the Stephen King book, about the Creed family — Louis and Rachel and their two children, Ellie and Gage — who move to Maine, to a home that lies near sacred Native American burial grounds where interred bodies won’t stay dead. The family cat, killed by a speeding truck, is among the first to be resurrected.
In 1989, VFX was not an option for Lambert. Instead, she leaned on a crew that included art director Dins Danielsen, a physical effects team led by Peter Chesney and, for the “resurrected” feline, animal wranglers Brian McMillan and Scott Hart. This past weekend, the world got a little less entertaining with the passing of veteran actor John Saxon, whose career spanned over an impressive seven decades. A truly singular onscreen presence, Saxon was teen idol turned character actor with a penchant for playing authority figures throughout his diverse career.

The master of horror is ready for his closeup. Here's a history of Stephen King movie and TV cameos.
Like many people with fertile imaginations, Stephen King loves movies. He loves them so much, in fact, that he’s appeared in quite a few himself, starting in 1981 with a cameo as a rather slovenly redneck in George A. Romero’s jousting bikers drama, Knightriders (he’s billed as “Hoagie Man”).
Over the years, King has broadened his range to include appearances in not just movies, but in TV shows like The Simpsons and Sons of Anarchy.
He even memorably starred in an American Express commercial in 1985:

For the most part, however, King’s onscreen appearances have been in films and TV series based on his own work, usually in quick, don’t-blink-or-you’ll-miss-him walk-ons but occasionally in a decent-sized supporting role.

Spoilers for all three Pet Sematary films abound throughout this review. Read on, if you dare.
Tfh Guru Mary Lambert‘s excellent, intense and darkly funny film adaptation of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary debuted on April 21st, 1989. 30 years later, it has terrified untold oodles of pet owners, who’ve no doubt pondered the lengths to which they’d go if their beloved critters were to be, say, leveled by a truck. Beyond birthing millions of nightmares, Pet Sematary has also spawned a solid sequel and a middling remake.
When he gets a cushy new gig as a doctor at the University of Maine, Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) relocates his wife Rachel, their small children Ellie (Blaze Berdahl) and Gage (Miko Hughes), and Ellie’s beloved cat Church from Chicago to the small town of Ludlow, Maine near the college. The Pet Sematary remake brings scares, a terrifying cat, and surprises if you have read the Stephen King book or seen the original movie.
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
“Sometimes dead is better” in Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer’s new take on Stephen King’s cautionary fable Pet Sematary, a gothic, glossy remake which goes hard on the horror. For a time ‘remake’ was a dirty word in genre circles but after the storming success of It in 2017, digging up back catalog King and bringing it back from the dead is all the rage
Would Pet Sematary have been better left to rest in peace? Not exactly. But sadly, many of those new spins in Kolsch and Widmeyer’s take are the parts that don't work as well as they should. On the plus side, the cat is great.
Essentially a "The Monkey’s Paw" story...

Pet Sematary opens in theatres on April 5, 2019 and Paramount Pictures has released a brand new poster and trailer for the upcoming horror film.
Based on the seminal horror novel by Stephen King, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Jason Clarke), who, after relocating with his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two young children from Boston to rural Maine, discovers a mysterious burial ground hidden deep in the woods near the family’s new home. When tragedy strikes, Louis turns to his unusual neighbor, Jud Crandall (John Lithgow), setting off a perilous chain reaction that unleashes an unfathomable evil with horrific consequences.
The original film, directed by Mary Lambert, was super creepy and written by King, featured Dale Midkiff as Louis Creed, Denise Crosby as Rachel Creed, Blaze Berdahl as Ellie Creed, Miko Hughes as Gage Creed, and Fred Gwynne as Jud Crandall. Andrew Hubatsek was cast for Zelda’s role.

Want to enhance your horror movie? Make sure you sign up a cat...
This feature contains broad spoilers for several horror movies featuring cats, including Alien, Cat People, Drag Me To Hell, Fallen, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, Pet Sematary and The Voices.
The relationship between humans and cats over time has given way to a number of cultural impressions and outright superstitions. Ancient Egyptians associated them with gods. In the Middle Ages, they were linked with witches and killed en masse, which probably hastened the spread of the Black Plague through the rodent population. And in the modern day, it's interchangeably lucky or not if a black cat crosses your path.
Like anything with such a wide array of symbolic links, movies have presented cats as characters in different ways over the years. It's their abiding association with the supernatural – whether as an omen...

Our journey through the screen adaptations of Stephen King's writing brings us to a trip to the Pet Sematary...
The film: Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) takes a job as a doctor at the University of Maine, moving into a new home with his wife Rachel (Denise Crosby) and their two young children, Ellie (Blaze Berdahl) and Gage (Miko Hughes). Their neighbour Jud (Fred Gwynne) takes a shine to the family and Louis in particular. Jud takes them to the local ‘pet sematary’ where children bury their pets, animals killed by the trucks on the road running past the Creeds’ house. When tragedy strikes, the sinister significance of the Micmac burial ground near the cemetery becomes clear.

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by distributor Terror Films. This writer has worked on some online marketing for this title. Directors/writers: John Campopiano and Justin White. Interviewees: Denise Crosby, Dale Midkiff, Miko Hughes, Brad Greenquist, Carlene Hirsch. Unearthed & Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary is a documentary on the 1989, Mary Lambert produced film. Developed over five years, the documentary shows dedication and careful editing. Mostly told through interviews with cast and crew, this documentary offers a lot of behind-the-scenes trivia. It also delivers a cohesive breakdown on how the original film was developed. From set location scouting to character motivations, almost everything (in production) is covered. There is one thing missing though; there is no actual footage of the film, which is owned by Paramount Pictures. Still, did you know there were multiple endings shot for the film? This viewer did not, nor how Stephen King based.

As part of my post duty orders here at We Are Movie Geeks it is my privilege to shine a light on movies that never quite found an audience, that may have slipped through the cracks. Movies that got very little or n o theatrical release, not much publicity or went straight to video (very common these days.) Such a movie is Jack The Bear . I can recall being vaguely aware of the movie when it was released in 1993, it did play in theaters but I don’t recall much advertising devoted to it. In that time frame I either was too busy or too broke to take in a movie, usually both.
In Jack The Bear we have sort of a male version of Mermaids. An all male family with an eccentric Father John Leary (Danny DeVito ) who keeps moving his family around the country. John makes his living as an entertainer,...

When it comes to Wes Craven, I hardly know where to start to memorialize him. This one hurts. While I would not say we were close in any way, we were friendly, and I'd spent enough time with him that when we would run into each other, he always seemed to light up. I'm sure that was something that he did with many people. Everyone I know who knew him has stories about his incredibly kindness. I remember one afternoon in particular spent at his home talking to him about possible projects, and honestly, it didn't matter to me if we ended up getting a film set up or not. It was just the chance to sit and talk about horror with him that was the thrill. When I heard the news tonight, in a flash I realized that we're approaching an age where the guys who directly inspired me...

Aussie horror The Babadook, which is currently in UK cinemas and reaches the Us next week, is one of the scariest films of the year. Like a lot of the best fear-flicks, much of its ability to terrify comes down to one truly creepy kid.
In director Jennifer Kent's harrowing debut, six-year-old Samuel (Noah Wiseman) discovers a book called Mister Babadook, which just so happens to coincide with creepy occurrences at home that his mother (Essie Davis) blames on Samuel's overactive imagination. If we reveal any more, we'll ruin the film's surprises, but suffice to say that Samuel's behaviour is every bit as unnerving as the monster that could be lurking in his house.
He's not the only movie kid putting us off parenthood for life. Also responsible for giving Digital Spy a severe case of paedophobia (or fear of children) are these terrifying tots...

With Halloween around the corner, we're counting down the days by posting five fun facts about our favorite fright flicks. Today's feature film is "Pet Sematary" (1989). 1. Stephen King came up with the idea when his daughters' cat, Smuckey, was hit and killed on the highway outside their house.2. The film was actor Miko Hughes' (above) film debut. He was only two years old during production and would later star in "Wes Craven's New Nightmare," "Kindergarten Cop" and appear on "Full House." See Miko now, at age 28, in the gallery above!3. Ellie Creed was played by two twin actress, Blaze Berdahl and Beau Berdahl. Blaze was mainly credited for the role, while Beau was credited as 'Ellie Creed II.' These days, Blaze is a voice actress. 4. Rachael's dying sister, Zelda, was actually played by a male actor named Andrew Hubatsek. Director Mary Lambert wanted something to be "off" about...

Halloween is coming and we thought with all those kids that are out trick or treating, dressing up to be grown ups, that we would give these halfstacks their due, children can be creepy as well. The staff has got together and compiled thirteen films where children are to be feared.
The Children From The Children
Tom Shankland’s film shares themes in common with a couple other “youth gone mad” films of the past, but these kids are terrifying in their own way. A virus of some sort is turning the children into blodthirsty, malevolent creatures. They still look sweet, but they’re ready to kill, kill, kill. The scary imps in Cronenberg’s The Brood are spooky, but nothing freaks me out more than a normal looking child becoming violent. Kids toys become tools of murder here, and a parent’s worst nightmare is born. This well directed...

Kids say the darnedest things! Isn't that what Bill Cosby taught us back in the 1990s? Well, the legendary comedian was right, obviously, especially when it comes to memorable movie quotes. We wanted to take a look back through the decades at some of the most hilarious, touching, unforgettable lines said by kid characters (most are live-action, but there are a few animated characters too). We even asked some of our friends and readers what their favorites were and came up with this list of 25, but it just as easily could have been 50.
And if you notice we paid extra attention to the '80s and '90s, let's just say that's when many of us were growing up; we're sure younger (and older) readers could come up with an entirely different lineup of quotes. Feel free to share them in the comments!
