When Good Morning America arrived on Thursday, anchor Michael Strahan was missing from the desk.
His latest absence came days after Strahan shut down a co-anchor following fiery remarks over a GMA story. It also arrived just as his daughter shared a video of her ongoing recovery from a health scare.
DeMarco Morgan, one of several ABC anchors who have covered for Strahan during absences, was filling in on Thursday’s GMA for the former NFL star.
Strahan’s colleagues, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopolous, were alongside Morgan for the GMA episode.
Stephanopolous welcomed viewers and began introducing a preview of the show’s upcoming stories.
“Just three days until the big game in Las Vegas,” Roberts said once the crew appeared on camera again.

Michael Strahan seemed to want no part of any more discussion of a heated topic with his Good Morning America co-anchor!
During a recent episode of the program, Strahan appeared at the desk with co-anchors George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts.
The trio was joined for a segment by Will Reeve, who presented a story about the ongoing coverage of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s relationship.
With Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs playing in this year’s Super Bowl, the topic will receive more attention, discussion, and criticism.
Following the segment, Roberts got riled up when discussing how some critics get upset about the relationship coverage.
“It is amazing that some people are just so up in arms. Who cares? It’s great,” Roberts told her colleagues.

Pro Football Hall of Famer and TV host Michael Strahan is among the many people mourning and recognizing actor Carl Weathers upon recent news of his passing.
The 76-year-old actor appeared in many roles, including Apollo Creed in the Rocky films and Greef Karga in Disney+’s Star Wars series, The Mandalorian.
On Friday, media outlets reported Carl Weathers’ death, and many individuals reacted with their thoughts about how he impacted their lives.
Like Strahan, Weathers has a football background. He played for San Diego State in college and briefly for the Oakland Raiders in the NFL before joining Canada’s BC Lions for several years in the early 1970s.
Following his days playing football, Weathers took on roles in movies and television, including one that included Strahan as a co-star.

Michael Strahan isn’t averse to throwing a jab at a colleague, especially on the set of one of his favorite shows.
The 52-year-old appears regularly on Good Morning America, where he’s had playful banter with Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and others.
Before landing on GMA, he started with Fox NFL Sunday to help present pre-game, halftime, and post-game coverage.
On the NFL program, his friends and co-analysts include Curt Menefee, Jimmy Johnson, Terry Bradshaw, and Howie Long.
A recent episode of Fox’s show featured hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg, who stars in the new Amazon Prime movie The Underdoggs.
Since the movie is about football and Strahan has worked with Snoop before, it’s no surprise the Fox NFL crew appears in the film.

Minutes before “Saturday Night Live” was set to kick off Season 49 inside Studio 8H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the show’s production team — led, of course, by executive producer Lorne Michaels — received word that two special guests were on their way. According to a source, that was when they learned that Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who were in New York City, wanted to drop by the show.
“No one knew they were coming, and they contacted a few minutes before arrival at air time,” said one source. Coincidentally, the very first sketch of the night — after host Pete Davidson’s cold open, which addressed Israel and Gaza, and monologue — was a parody of the NFL’s current obsession with all things Taylor Swift. In the sketch, “Fox NFL Sunday” anchor Curt Menefee, played by Kenan Thompson, grows increasingly frustrated as his co-anchors Terry Bradshaw (Molly Kearney...

After "Saturday Night Live" ended season 48 a little prematurely back in the spring due to the Hollywood strikes beginning, the late night sketch comedy show returned for season 49 this weekend. Despite the fact that the Screen Actors Guild is still on strike while negotiating for a new deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), SAG-AFTRA gave its full support for the cast of "SNL" to return to work, which meant former cast member Pete Davidson finally got to make his hosting debut.
While it might seem like a quick turnaround for Davidson to return as host so soon after leaving at the end of season 47, plenty of other more recent cast members have come back to the show as host just as quickly, such as Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, and Bill Hader. However, since Davidson wasn't exactly known for many recurring characters or impressions, it didn't...

Travis Kelce made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live in a Fox NFL Sunday parody over the excessive coverage of Taylor Swift attending the Kansas City Chief games.
Kenan Thompson appeared as Curt Menefee, Mikey Day was Howie Long, James Austin Johnson was Jimmy Johnson, Devon Walker as Michael Strahan and Molly Kearney was Terry Bradshaw.
Thompson as Menefee acknowledged Swifties tuning in to the NFL coverage joking that the Chiefs game was on Thursday and they had just missed her.
Another point of debate was when Thompson’s Menefee said it was time “to get into the game and stop yapping about Taylor and her little boyfriend.”
Day’s Long said, “Hold on there, no one said boyfriend. Let’s not jump to conclusions here.”
Johnson’s Johnson cleared up that Kelce and Swift are “hanging out” and “they’re taking their time.”

“Saturday Night Live” returned with host Pete Davidson on Saturday, and the first sketch of the night took on Taylor Swift/NFL mania, via a parody of Fox’s NFL Sunday team. As the anchors tried to outdo each other with their Swift fandom, the sketch ended with a cameo by Travis Kelce himself — the Kansas City Chiefs tight end at the center of the brouhaha.
Fox NFL anchor Curt Menefee, played by Kenan Thompson, grows increasingly frustrated as his co-anchors Terry Bradshaw (Molly Kearney), Howie Long (Mikey Day), Michael Strahan (Devon Walker) and Jimmy Johnson (James Austin Johnson) reveal their love of Swift.
When Menefee refers to “Bad Blood,” and then his co-anchors break into the Swift song, Thompson-as-Menefee has had enough: “You know what, I’m done. When we get back, we’re going to speak to someone who actually wants to talk football,” he says.

Skydance Sports, NFL Films and the Jerry Jones family are collaborating on what they call a “defining” docuseries about the Dallas Cowboys and the arc of Jones as the owner and builder of the franchise over 30-plus years.
As president and general manager, Jones is credited with engineering a massive turnaround that led to three Super Bowl titles in the 1990s. While the Lombardi Trophy has remained out of reach during the past quarter-century-plus, Jones and his family have shepherded the rise of the Cowboys to the status of the most valuable franchise in professional sports.
Using never-before-seen footage from the NFL Films archive, the as-yet-untitled series will trace Jones’ rise from the son of an Arkansas community store owner to the top of the pro sports heap. Interviews will feature ex-Cowboys players Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith and Deion Sanders; former head coaches Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer...

A docuseries about Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys franchise is in the works from Skydance Sports and NFL Films.
Featuring some of NFL Films’ archived never-before-seen content, the series will chronicle the Cowboys owner, president, and general manger’s rise from the son of an Arkansas community store owner to becoming one of the most renowned leaders in sports. Additionally, the documentary will highlight several of the household names who partnered with Jones along the way, including Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Deion Sanders, Head Coaches Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer, Rupert Murdoch, and Phil Knight.
When Jones first purchased the organization in 1989, the team was coming off a 13-loss season and was losing in excess of $1 million a month. (Updated with NFL fines information) ‘Oh man,” exhaled Aaron Rodgers when confronted today with Saturday Night Live’s scathing spoof this weekend of the now admittedly unvaccinated quarterback.
Coming less than a week after the now much disparaged Green Bay Packers player admitted he hadn’t had the anti-Covid jabs despite declaring in the summer that he was “immunized,” the sudden appearance of SNL’s Pete Davidson as Rodgers popped up on a graphic on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday.

One of the most repeatedly asked questions in the NFL this season continues to be is if former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is going to come out of retirement. And James Corden, of all people, may hold the key to the three-time Super Bowl champion’s return to the field.
Gronkowski was a surprise guest on Corden’s “Late Late Show” Thursday night, and not just because he happened to be on the CBS lot filming the host’s new sports-themed show “Game On!” this week.
The three-time Super Bowl champion, who officially announced his retirement from the NFL in March, said he’s loving his post-football career of TV gigs, working out and new business ventures.

Corden then tried to trick Gronk into agreeing to go back to the Patriots by making him blink.

CBS has ordered a sports-themed game show “Game On!” from James Corden, based on the U.K. series “A League of Their Own,” that Corden hosts himself.
Keegan-Michael Key will host the U.S. version. He will be joined by Venus Williams and Rob Gronkowski, who will serve as team captains, while Bobby Lee and Iam Karmel will serve as comedian panelists.
Equal parts comedy and game show, the genre-busting “Game On!” pits two teams of three, captained by Williams and Gronkowski, with comedians Lee and Karmel plus a rotating mix of sports stars, comedians and celebrities, against one another.
The teams will go head to head in over-the-top physical challenges, from seeing who can dunk the most basketballs over a tank of water while harnessed on a bungee cord, to taking on a sumo wrestler in the ring. They will also have their sports-related knowledge tested with trivia questions,...

The courageous story of how Kim Shattack and The Muffs collaborated to produce their final album, No Holiday, is one of the great tales of perseverance in the face of overwhelming obstacles. Yahoo! Music’s Lyndsey Parker crafts the tale of how Shattuck, who suffered from Als and couldn’t move or talk near the end, still managed to direct her band mates and some hired guns toward the album’s completion.
Elsewhere, possible new music from Coldplay after a long hiatus, the death of a prominent executive and resignation of another, and a story of bullying by a famed coach and broadcaster on a rock legend surfaced.
This week in music:
The Muffs Final Album: Kim Shattuck, the frontwoman for The Muffs was died earlier this month at age 56, was battling Als (sometimes called Lou Gehrig’s disease) over her last two years. But she was determined to finish the band’s final album,...

Back in 2000, during the first season of “Survivor” that took place in Borneo, a semi-tradition was born. The first two contestants to be voted out by their tribes were Sonja Christopher, 63, and B.B. Anderson, 64. Early in the game, Sonja hurt her foot while B.B. took his tribemates to task about their lack of work ethic. At least three truisms about the show were established on the first episode. One, don’t be weak. Two, don’t be bossy. And three don’t be a senior citizen.
Yes, then-72-year-old Rudy Boesch, an ex-Navy Seal and the oldest contestant ever, hung in there by smartly aligning with the strongest players. But even he got quickly canned during an All-Stars season held on the Pearl Islands that aired in 2004. He hurt his ankle early on and soon after was the second person to be voted off.

Jimmy Johnson, the guitarist for the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section (a.k.a. “the Swampers”) whose foundational R&b-based playing could be heard on hundreds of records, including iconic hits by Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, Wilson Pickett and Lynyrd Skynyrd, died at the age of 76. His death was confirmed by his son Jay Johnson, who did not reveal a cause of death. “He is gone,” his son wrote on Facebook. “Playing music with the angels now.”

Fifty years ago, a handful of milestone albums set the tone for rock of the following decade. Crosby, Stills & Nash initiated a fresh approach to harmonies and looser group names; the eponymous debut by the Allman Brothers Band laid the foundation for the Southern rock of the Seventies. And setting the scene for the white soul-pop that would explode with the likes of Hall and Oates was Boz Scaggs’ self-titled album, which Atlantic Records rolled out on this day in August 1969.

Welcome to “TV Take,” Variety‘s television podcast. In this week’s episode, Variety’s executive editor of TV, Daniel Holloway, talks with Curt Menefee, host of “Fox NFL Sunday,” the long-running pre-game show being inducted into the Nab Broadcasting Hall of Fame in April.
Menefee has a pretty packed week. Mondays are his weekend, he says, discussing the lead-up to the show — “That is the day I like to try to do stuff with the wife” — but reviewing what happened the day before or having to take interviews sometimes gets in the way of that.
Preparation for the weekly live show begins Tuesday, and doesn’t stop until early Sunday morning leading up to the show’s airtime at 9 a.m.
Having been running since 1994, if it looks like he and his co-hosts Howie Long, Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson and Michael Strahan are friends, it’s because they are.

Nick Offerman is a man of nature. Known for his work beyond his acting career as a builder of high-quality, hand-crafted furniture, one would assume that he has the skill to best a number of opponents in a battle of outdoor wits.
On the most recent episode of the podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend,” Offerman and wife Megan Mullally delved into their deep love for the long-running CBS reality show “Survivor.” According to Offerman, he once got close to taking part in a season.
“It’s been discussed. We’ve sincerely looked at it in reality,” Offerman said.
“It was actually maybe going to happen and then he got an acting job,” Mullally added.
Of course, brute knowledge of outdoor survival skills isn’t enough to win a show like this. It requires a certain amount of psychological maneuvering which Offerman’s not 100% sure he has.
“I think it would be really fun.

James Taylor is Martha’s Vineyard in the 1970s, campfire circles in the New England woods and sun-drenched barbecues in western Massachusetts. He’s Boston’s Fenway Park and preppy college frat parties in the 1980s and acoustic guitar by the Charles River on muggy summer nights. And today, Taylor, American folk-rock hero with over 100 million records sold worldwide and five Grammys to his name, remains, at age 70, one of the most impactful singer-songwriters in the American music canon, a wistful and winsome troubadour with sweeping cross-generational influence. Just ask any of the gangly tweens sitting cross-legged around a bonfire roasting marshmallows at sleepaway camp this summer while singing “You’ve Got a Friend,” the Carole King-penned classic included on “Tapestry” but made famous on Taylor’s 1971 album “Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon.”

Survivor: Philippines Review, Season 25, Episode 14
“Million Dollar Question”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Approaching Survivor’s 25th season finale, evidence pointed to a final two that might benefit Lisa and Skupin if the chips fell correctly. The problem was that they were planning for a final three and setting themselves up to lose. Malcolm and Denise are the clear favorites at the start of this episode, and the last hurdle is making the Final Tribal Council. Once Jeff Probst clarifies that it is a final three, the “million dollar question” is who gets the chance to thump Lisa and Skupin. Both could make a convincing argument, but grabbing enough votes from a bitter jury is another matter. Malcolm is set up by the editing as the favorite, which makes his ultimate demise more predictable. The opening reward challenge offers a big advantage to the winner in the final battle.
