Mário Jorge started his career at the age of 19 as an inbetweener for
Telecine Moro, a publicity producer in Portugal. There, he worked with
the three top senior animators in the country, at the time: Mário
Vasques das Neves, Artur Correia and Ricardo Neto. Between 1970 and
1973 he worked in animation for another publicity producer, Panorâmica
35, in Lisbon. In 1974 he joined IPC-Instituto Português de Cinema, for
a short period of time, and in 1975 he started working on his own until
1982. These were the years of criativity and learning. He produced
dozens of cartoon films, shot live action, made post-production,
engineered special effects, acted in pixilated films, etc... In 1982 he
founded Opticalprint in partnership with his father Mário Vasques das
Neves. Since then he received some awards in Portugal for his work in
animated commercials. He produced (and sometimes also animated) the
four series of the portuguese version of "Sesame Street" for RTP-Rádio
Televisão Portuguesa. His most notorious achievement using clay
animation was the production of 53 TV commercials during the years of
1997 and 1998, the popular "SINGER Family". In partnership with Paulo
Cambraia he founded MEGA T (Megatoon) in 1996. Besides TV commercials,
he is now producing and animating shorts and TV series.
