Bob Guccione (pictured above in 1996 and 1984) the original founder of Penthouse magazine, died in Plano, TX hospital Wednesday (Oct. 20) at the age of 79 after a long battle with cancer, his family released in a statement.
Guccione was the publisher of Penthouse from its inception in 1965 in England until he resigned the position in 2003. Penthouse came to the United States in 1969. It was started as a raunchier version of Hugh Hefner's Playboy. Penthouse is known as the first men's magazine to show pubic hair and full-frontal nudity. In the 1990s, it moved to showcasing more "fetishes" than simply straight nudity.
Guccione was listed on Forbes' wealthiest people list in 1982, but in the later years of he invested poorly in a number of things, including a Penthouse Hotel and Casino, and lost much of his fortune. He is survived by two wives and three children and preceded in death by his most recent wife,...
