For a time in the 1960s and 1970s, certain low-budget filmmakers briefly abandoned the horror and softcore porn genres to make extremely cheap kids’ films like The Magic Land Of Mother Goose and The Wonderful Land Of Oz. We haven't seen much in the way of animated movies from The Weinstein Company, bar the Hoodwinked films and the company picking up Luc Besson's Arthur movies for distribution. But the Weinsteins have now announced three new CGI cartoon projects for release in 2013, alongside the already-revealed Escape From Planet Earth.Escape is first out of the gate next February, and as previously reported, tells the story of alien astronaut Scorch Supernova, tricked into coming to Earth after he picks up a fake Sos from dastardly military types. Breaking: The Weinstein Company, which has already set Escape From Planet Earth for February 14, has dated three more animated films on its 2013 slate. TWC co-chairman Harvey Weinstein has set an August 30, 2013 release for Leo The Lion, an October 25, 2013 date for The Trick Or Treaters, and a December 6, 2013 release date for Santapprentice.
