Lindsay Shookus, a producer on Saturday Night Live and head of its talent department, is leaving after 20 years.
Deadline understands that Shookus decided to leave the show ahead of this season given that it is essentially a rebuilding year with a number of key cast members such as Pete Davidson and Kate McKinnon leaving. She was offered a promotion but decided it was the right time to exit.
She has been with the venerable NBC late-night series for 20 years and 10 years as a producer. In that time, she has won six Emmys including an award for its 40th Anniversary special, which she played a pivotal role in.
Shookus started as assistant to Marci Klein, a producer and head of the talent department, in 2002 after graduating from college. She became an associate producer in 2008, a co-producer in 2010 and a producer in 2012. She is the head of the show’s talent department,...

Showtime comedy “I Love That for You” traces a straight line back to “Saturday Night Live.” Not only did former “SNL” star Vanessa Bayer create the show with former “SNL” writer Jeremy Beiler, and Bayer’s co-star is “SNL” veteran Molly Shannon, but the relationship between the actresses’ characters also looks a lot like… Shannon and Bayer’s, back when they were on “SNL.”
They didn’t overlap on the show, but it remained a shared experience. The actresses grew up 10 minutes away from each other in Cleveland suburbs and brought their Midwestern sensibilities to the venerable comedy show.
“Like when Vanessa’s character is getting a makeover, I relate to her character because that’s how I felt when I started on ‘Saturday Night Live,” Shannon said at the show’s premiere and FYC event at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles Wednesday night. “You’re kind of green,...

Ken Aymong, a key producer at NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” who has helped maintain the business of the venerable late-night program for more than three decades, is stepping down from his post.
The cast nodded to Aymong’s departure early Sunday morning during the final minutes of the first episode of “SNL’s” 47th season, with Colin Jost holding up a placard that read, “We’ll miss you, Ken.” Aymong has decided to retire, according to a person familiar with the matter, after joining the program in the mid-1980s.
Aymong has been a key lieutenant of executive producer Lorne Michaels for many years, along with current and former producers like Erik Kenward, Steve Higgins, Lindsay Shookus, Erin Doyle, Mike Shoemaker and Marci Klein. Others deal with booking guests, managing talent and keeping the sketches moving from idea to script. Aymong has long kept his eye on the flow...

That pushed the number to 76 for its 44 years on the air. No guest actors prevailed, although it had many chances with Sandra Oh, Emma Thompson, Matt Damon, Robert De Niro, John Mulaney and Adam Sandler all nominated. “Saturday Night Live” won Best Variety Sketch Series at Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards, marking the first time the long-running show has defended a series award and extending its record haul to 72, the most of any program.
Though “SNL” has been on the air for 43 years, it has only won three series awards. It took home Best Variety Series in 1976 for its first season and again in 1993 for its 18th season. After the category was split into Best Variety Sketch Series and Best Variety Talk Series in 2015, “SNL” won the former last year for its buzzy, politically charged 42nd installment. It had leading 2/13 odds to repeat this year.

Over the weekend, NBC’s legendary variety program “Saturday Night Live” won seven more trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday night. It prevailed for comedy guest actress (Tiffany Haddish), variety directing (Don Roy King), music and lyrics, production design, lighting design, make-up and technical direction.
The show now has a mind-blowing 71 Emmy wins in its 43-year run, way ahead in the all-time record books for any series. The next closest series for the all-time marks held by “Game of Thrones” with 45 and “Frasier” with 37. “SNL” has got three more shots at the primetime ceremony on Monday, September 17, so how many more victories will it achieve to bump up its total haul even more? Those categories are Variety Sketch Series (where it is a virtual lock to win), Comedy Supporting Actress and Comedy Supporting Actor (with Alec Baldwin and Kenan Thompson).

Chelsea Handler has a new standup special on Netflix called "Uganda Be Kidding Me," which also doubles as the name of her new book. The talk show hostess just gave an interview in which she opens up about (among other things) two times "SNL" said they were booking her as a host and bailed without another word. She explained to HuffPost Live, "They said, 'You're gonna host.' I was doing Radio City Music Hall that night. I had three sold-out shows at Radio City Music Hall. I went over, I met with whoever was working with [Lorne Michaels] -- [producer] Marci Klein was working for him at the time. They're gonna hate that I'm talking about this right now, but I really don't have a problem with that. So they said, 'Oh, we have to have you host.' My agent called, he said, 'You're hosting 'SNL'. They're gonna give you a date in the fall.

Plenty of groups give out awards for excellence in film and television at the end of every year, but no set of nominations is watched more carefully by Oscar predictors than the picks from the Producers Guild. That’s because year after year their choices end up being a fairly good indicator of which films will also be granted Best Picture nominations when the Academy makes their selections.
The Guild has announced their 2014 nominations today and there aren’t really any major surprises here. All the expected films are present, including 12 Years A Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Gravity, Her and The Wolf Of Wall Street. Animated films that nabbed nominations are The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Epic, Frozen and Monsters University. The Producers Guild of America has accurately forecast the last six Best Picture Oscar winners, so it was good news for 10 films that were nominated today for the PGA’s Darryl F. Zanuck Award. While Gravity, 12 Years a Slave, and American Hustle were among the films that made the cut, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Butler, and Fruitvale Station did not. Oh yes it still hurts that Ben Affleck was not given a Best Director Oscar nomination, yet his fantastic film "Argo" continues its ascension to Oscar glory! The film took home the top prize at the Producers Guild of America Awards taking home the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.
So guess which film will win the Oscar Best Picture? Yup, it will be "Argo!" Why? Well, Hollywood really loves movies about them and "Argo" is about a movie of a fake movie in order to help free some Americans trapped in Iran during the hostage crisis.
And, the PGA award is a significant Academy Awards precursor. Only seven times in 24 years has the PGA winner failed to win a Best Picture Oscar. So "Argo" has a strong chance.
I'm also happy that "Searching for Sugar Man" won the Documentary category, and not so happy...

Earlier this week The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced the nominations for their annual awards for theatrical motion picture, animated motion picture and long-form television nominations for the 2013 Producers Guild Awards.
This was an incredible year for films, and most of the movies nominated here deserve to be. Out of all the films listed here, I'd like to see Zero Dark Thirty or Silver Linings Playbook take the top prize for motion picture, Paranorman for animated film, Game of Thrones for TV drama, and Curb Your Enthusiasm for TV Comedy. In case you missed them, here they are! Look them over and let us know what films you'd like to see win!
Ten nominations in the theatrical motion picture category include:
Argo (Warner Bros.)
Beasts of the Southern Wild (Fox Searchlight)
Django Unchained (The Weinstein Company)

The Producers Guild of America has announced its nominations for best productions of the year, in what is often looked to as an indicator for how the Academy Awards may go.
The guild selected 10 films — most of them common guesses for the group that could make up the Oscar list of the best films of 2012: Argo, Lincoln, Les Misérables, among others.
The one surprise: Skyfall. No 007 film has ever cracked the Best Picture list, but if this nomination is any indication, that could change when the Oscar nods are revealed Jan. 10.

HBO’s Game of Thrones, Showtime’s Homeland, CBS’ Big Bang Theory and FX’s Louie were among the nominees in the top categories for the annual Producers Guild of America awards.
There’s a lot of overlap here with the 2012 Emmy award nominations, with a few exceptions: HBO’s Boardwalk Empire missed landing a slot for best drama series (there were six Emmy nominees and five for PGA). While on the comedy side, HBO’s Girls and Veep weren’t nominated, but Louie was. If you’re wondering why Comedy Central’s Emmy favorite The Daily Show with Jon Stewart...

Last night the Producers Guild of America (PGA) gave out awards for achievement in films and television released in 2011. The big winner was The Artist, which took home the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. As the winner of this award takes the Best Picture Oscar three times out of four, any betting on the top Oscar honor is pretty much over at this point. Read on for the full list of winners. The PGA website provides the list. In each case I've left the full slate of nominees, and winners are bolded. I'm happy to see the excellent A Tribe Calle Quest doc, Beats, Rhymes and Life, picking up the award for best documentary. The Darryl F. hollywoodnews.com: It’s beginning to look a bit like a landslide. The Producers Guild of America is the latest group to reward Michel Hazanavicius’ “The Artist” with its year-end Best Picture honors, paving the way for what could be Oscar domination next month.
The black-and-white and predominantly silent film has been picking up top prizes throughout the season, winning Best Picture awards at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and the Golden Globes. On accepting the PGA distinction, producer Thomas Langmann said that when they “dreamed of making ‘The Artist,’ we knew we were dreaming of writing a love letter to American cinema.”

The Producers Guild of America has announced their nominations for the PGA Awards and it's hard not to agree with every movie on the list. All of the ones I've seen are great films, and the ones I haven't seen I've heard are amazing. The only two on the list I haven't watched are The Artist and The Descendants, both of which I'm looking forward to seeing. I'd love Hugo or War Horse to take home the top prize though. Those were my two favorite movies of 2011. The winners will be announced on January 21st, 2012; check out the full press released with the list of nominations below and tell us what you think! What would you like to see win?

We really can’t say that 2011 is behind us until award season is finished, and as we get closer to the coveted Academy Awards in February, various other guilds and organizations are recognizing the best that 2011 had to offer. Today the Producers Guild of America announced their nominees for Best Picture. The PGA is generally a good indicator as to which movies will be nominated for best Picture when the Oscars roll around.

Here's your best indicator yet as to what the crop of nominations for the Best Picture Oscar is likely to be. The Producers Guild of America (PGA) has announced its nominations for 2011 awards, which will be doled out on January 21. The ten films nominated for the PGA's top honor include expected pictures such as The Artist, The Descendants and War Horse. There are no real surprises, but the growing Oscar chances for The Help won't be hurt by getting a PGA nomination (would be slightly wild to see Chris Columbus, a producer on The Help, with an Oscar), and Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris makes an appearance on the list, too. There are a couple surprises, though, in the form of Bridesmaids and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo -- the Judd Apatow and Scott Rudin effects in full force there. With 5-10 Best Picture nominations possible for this year's Oscars,...

Nothing came between me and my Calvin Monday night. Iconic fashion designer Calvin Klein was at the 92Y for a conversation with Fern Mallis, the woman largely responsible for the creation of New York Fashion Week.
Navigating my way through a thicket of impeccably dressed women, I was sudden joined by Klein himself. Granted, if he hadn’t backed into me, my eight-second exchange may have not happened. The 68-year-old Klein gave a brief albeit thoughtful interview.

"The Social Network's" climb to Oscar victory was put to a halt by the Producers Guild, giving its much-coveted Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures to Tom Hooper's "The King's Speech!" (Full list of PGA Awards nominees and winners below)
Thus, making this one of the most unpredictable Oscars in recent years. Will the unclear antagonists and protagonists of "The Social Network" triumph over the "against all odds" story of "The King's Speech"?

The 62nd Annual Emmy nominations are in -- and the nominees are voicing their thanks! Here are some choice reactions:
Tina Fey, on her nod for Best Actress in a Comedy Series in "30 Rock": "This is great and exciting news. Especially since today is the fifth anniversary of the day NBC forgot to cancel us. Also, this seems like an appropriate time for me to announce to NBC that I will not be renewing my contract.

Actor-comedian Patton Oswalt has landed a co-starring lead role on NBC's half-hour comedy pilot "Beach Lane."
Oswalt ("Ratatouille," "Big Fan") will star opposite Matthew Broderick in the project, playing James, a slacker with inherited wealth who's given the job of running a small Hamptons newspaper. James hires a renowned journalist (Broderick) to help turn the paper around.
Kristen Johnston ("Third Rock From the Sun") also has been cast in a series regular role playing James' stepsister, a real estate agent. She's repped by Paradigm.
"Lane" was created by Paul Simms ("Bored to Death," "The Larry Sanders Show") and produced by Lorne Michaels and Marci Klein. Oswalt is repped by CAA and Generate.
Also in pilot castings, newcomer Max Ehrich ("The Pregnancy Pact") has booked roles in two CBS pilots. The first, a quintuplets mockumentary titled "Quinn-Tuplets," has Ehrich playing Patrick opposite Dougray Scott and Molly Parker.

The maverick actor is once again one of Hollywood's hottest properties, but he's still a high-risk choice to co-host tonight's Oscars ceremony
The role of Oscars host has historically proved something of a poisoned chalice. Few presenters can pull off the trick of being witty without being disrespectful or spontaneous without being deemed de trop by the American establishment. It takes a certain skill to keep things moving, to ensure that the Hollywood back-slapping and back-stabbing is handled with casual grace and a fluent reading of the autocue. Hugh Jackman was derided for being "too dull"; Chris Rock for being "too tame". Whoopi Goldberg was considered a safe pair of hands until she made a relatively inoffensive joke about losing her virginity and was criticised for being "too smutty".
This year, the Academy has taken something of a gamble by putting Alec Baldwin in charge, alongside co-host Steve Martin. Although...
