Well. Um. So, that happened. I'm really of mixed feelings about The Librarians Season 3 Episode 9, to the point where I can't decide – even sitting here writing this review – whether this episode was good or completely ludicrous.
The series itself definitely requires a certain level of whimsy in its viewers, but "And the Fatal Separation" definitely took suspension of disbelief to levels of parody.
The Monkey King of Shangri-La came out of nowhere as apparently the guy who's been teaching Jake next-level fighting skills (probably to make better use of Christian Kane's training).
The way Jake and the Monkey King spouted apparently-profound wisdom at each other in humorous fashion indicated that the writers were almost certainly aware of the exploitation of martial arts movie cliches.
A man who eats crackers in bed wakes up feeling crumby.

Chiller has original and reimagined onscreen scares lined up for this year and the next, as they've just announced that their first original series, Slasher (directed by Todd & The Book of Pure Evil’s Craig David Wallace), will premiere late this year, along with a reimagining of Tobe Hooper's 1985 space vampire flick, Lifeforce. Also in development at Chiller (and slated for a 2016 debut) is Siren, a full-length film adaptation of David Bruckner's highly regarded V/H/S segment, Amateur Night, which gave viewers a chilling new perspective on the line, "I like you."
Press Release (via The Futon Critic) -- "New York - May 5, 2015 - On the heels of its most-watched original movie to date (Animal) and the SXSW 2015 premiere of its original movie The Boy, Chiller announces new original content for 2015 and 2016, including its first-ever original series, Slasher, and two new original movies, Lifeforce and Siren.

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. How do you put that much action down on...

And the lineup for this year's Sitges Film Festival, which runs 6-16 October on the Catalan coast of Spain, continues to grow. A big batch of "Special Session" short films has been added to the lineup, including seven episodes of the Cinemax "Femme Fatales" TV series directed by a host of popular genre directors such as Richard Hollis, Frank McCloud, Steve Kriozere, Mark A. Altman, Darin Scott, and Buddy Giovinazzo.
The episodes heading to Sitges are Behind Locked Doors, Help Me Rhonda, Bad Medicine, Something Like Murder, Speed Date, Trophy Wife and Haunted. Tanit Phoenix portrays play Lilith, a mysterious, enigmatic narrator who ties all the episodes, which revolve around the femme fatale archetype, together.
Below are some stills from Behind Locked Doors (Nos. 1 and 2), Haunted (Nos. 3-5) and Trophy Wife (Nos. 6 and 7), a clip from Behind Locked Doors starring Carlee Baker, and an introductory video from Cinemax.

Tomorrow night — yes, Friday the 13th — a new show is premiering on Cinemax, that purveyor of inspirational After Dark programming such as Zane's Sex Chronicles and Co-Ed Confidential 4Play. It's called Femme Fatales and I don't know if it will be any good, but it just might be better than it needs to be.
Femme Fatales is being promoted as a female-centric film noir version of The Twilight Zone, drawing influences from pulp fiction stories and graphic novels, with lots of T&A. It comes to us from the overstimulated minds of Mark A. Altman and Steven Kriozere, which seems weird at first because both of these guys have respectable day jobs in network television. But it starts to make sense when you realize they also have a bit of experience with the ol' slap and tickle.
Altman and Kriozere work as producers on Castle, the ABC detective romp starring Nathan Fillion and Stana Kanic.

Imagine a genre version of Maxim Magazine and that was Femme Fatales in a nutshell. Cinemax knows why it was so popular, and now they are looking to turn it into a naughty anthology series. Sounds like a great companion piece to Showtime’s Look.

“The network has given a series order to a half-hour late-night program with the same title, which will explore noir-style mysteries with strong female protagonists.
The show, set to debut next year, is part of the network’s effort to expand its scripted originals. Though “Femme Fatales” will have a strong erotic component, it will not fall into the network’s famous softcore “Skinamax” genre.
“It’s a different show than we’ve ever done before,” said Bob Conti, senior vp creative affairs at Cinemax, who cited movies like “Bound,” “Dead Calm” and “Red Rock West” as inspirations. “We have an opportunity to...

Brace yourselves, director Brett Ratner (X-Men: The Last Stand, Skyline) is heading back into comic book territory for a new film. Ratner and his production company, Rat Entertainment have reportedly acquired the rights to the comic book property The Unknowns, which is published by Femme Fatales Comics and was created by Mark A. Altman (Castle) , Steven Kriozere (NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service) and model/actress Monica Olsen.
Here’s a description of The Unknowns from the comic’s official site
Created under a still classified executive order from Richard Nixon, the original Unknowns were designed to support the war effort in Vietnam. The program was eventually disbanded under President Jimmy Carter and that was the end of the story. Or was it?

Brett Ratner is still around, I'm sorry to tell you. The director widely loathed for tanking the X-Men series was coming close to a comeback when he was being considered to direct X-Men: First Class, but that fate was happily avoided when Matthew Vaughn took the job. Ratner still doesn't exactly have a directing project on his plate, but as reported by Variety, he's keeping busy as a producer, and sticking with comics. His company Rat Entertainment has optioned the rights to The Unknowns, a comic book series by Mark A. Altman, Steven Kriozere and Monica Olsen about a young woman who realizes she was once the leader of an elite killing team called The Unknowns. Like many great movie heroes before her, she then goes on a journey to discover her true identity and, I'm guessing, employ her long-dormant ass-kicking skills. There's no word on whether or not Ratner...

There are few film makers I have more disdain for than Brett Ratner. The man is toxic. He's a fucking blight. Somehow he went from directing the decently funny Rush Hour to a career made up of horrible films and hideously botched adaptations and sequels. Next on his list is the Femme Fatales Comics series The Unknowns, which he's recently acquired the rights to.
The Unknowns was developed by Mark A. Altman, Steve Kriozere and model/actress Monica Olsen. Olsen, pictured in the header, serves as the for the main character, a former covert operative who loses her memory and learns that she was once a deadly assassin and leader of a team called, you guessed it, The Unknowns. Here's the official synopsis, via Slashfilm:
What is Known... Created under a still classified executive order from Richard Nixon, the original Unknowns were designed to support the war effort in Vietnam.

Brett Ratner's Rat Entertainment has bought the film rights for the Femme Fatales Comics The Unknowns, according to Variety.
The comic, created by Mark A. Altman, Steve Kriozere and Monica Olsen centres on Alexis Davenport (based on Olsen), who leads an ordinary life until she finds out she previously used to be part of an extremely skilled group called The Unknowns. She must now find out why her memory was erased and by whom.
Assuming that Davenport will be played by a Jolie-esque kind of gal, this sounds good. As Kill Bill and countless other films have proved, everyone loves a feisty woman.

Share What’s that? Brett Ratner is sniffing around another comic-book movie? After making a total balls-up of the X-Men finale? Has the world gone mad? Well yes, apparently so actually. According to Variety, Ratner’s Rat Entertainment production company have purchased the rights to girl-power-gone-wild saga, The Unknowns. Written by Mark A. Altman and Steve Kriozere, the series follows the rather slinky figure of Alexis Davenport, a supposedly ordinary woman who gradually discovers that she was once the distinctly kick-ass...

Brett Ratner and his Ass Rat Entertainment has nabbed the feature film rights to a comic book property called The Unknowns, from Femme Fatales Comics.
The comic was created by Mark A. Altman (Doa: Dead Or Alive), Steve Kriozere (NCIS) and model/actress Monica Olsen (who the character is based off of. Yes, that is her pictured above.) Ratner is only set to produce the film at this point. As of right now there is no director that has been attached to it. Hopefully Ratner won't come on board and ruin a potentially good movie.
The story centers around Alexis Davenport, who while living a seemingly ordinary life discovers she was actually once the highly skilled and deadly leader of a mysterious team called The Unknowns and must learn the secret of why her memories were erased and by who.

Brett Ratner is a director you either hate or love, there's not really that much of an in-between when it comes to him. Thanks to his attempt to make an "X-Men" movie, I fall into the first category. So when a report comes up that he's acquired the rights to the Femme Fatale Comics property "The Unknowns", your stomach immediately churns.Luckily, all he'll be doing is producing under his Rat Entertainment label. The comic was created by Steve Kriozere, Mark A. Altman and Monica Olsen. Cinemax is looking to revive the thriller anthology series with a project based on the men's magazine "Femme Fatales."
The network has given a series order to a half-hour late-night program with the same title, which will explore noir-style mysteries with strong female protagonists.
The show is part of the network's effort to expand its scripted originals. Though "Femme Fatales" will have a strong erotic component, it will not fall into the network's famous softcore "Skinamax" genre.
"It's a different show than we've ever done before," said Bob Conti, senior vp creative affairs at Cinemax, who cited movies like "Bound," "Dead Calm" and "Red Rock West" as inspirations. "We have an opportunity to tell some sexy and thrilling stories that all have powerful women."
The show is co-created and executive produced by the Icm-repped Mark A. Altman ("Castle") and Steve Kriozere ("NCIS").

USA is developing a series about a modern-day Robin Hood in addition to its usual crop of crime procedurals and legal dramas.
The network announced seven projects in development on Monday, including content from Steve Carell ("The Office"), Anthony Edwards ("ER") and John Michael Higgins ("Best in Show").
"With the proven power of the 'Characters Welcome' brand guiding our development, USA has produced a stunning track record of No. 1 new original series for four consecutive years, and has grown the network into a trusted destination for quality programming," said Jeff Wachtel, president of original programming at USA. "These new projects all combine strong characters and superior storytelling, offering viewers the kind of exceptionally written, aspirational originals they won't find anywhere else."
In "Robyn," an updated gender-twist on "Robin Hood," a young woman who decides she has done nothing with her life commits to rob from the upper class and giving to the poor.

Less than a year after venturing on his own as an independent producer, Steve Stark is filming his third pilot and has a half-dozen other projects in the works.
Stark, a longtime development executive at Paramount TV and Columbia TriStar TV, ran Kelsey Grammer's CBS Par-based Grammnet Prods. for seven years before going solo early this year with the launch of Steve Stark Prods.
"With every job I take, I say I can't possibly work harder," Stark said. "I'm working harder then ever now, but the rewards are greater. There is an incredible flexibility in selling directly to the networks; I am able to do things a little faster and be a little more agile."
Stark is in production on USA Network's hourlong pilot "Facing Kate," which stars Sarah Shahi as a lawyer who becomes a professional mediator.
