Beyoncé captivated Hollywood’s attention Saturday night as the superstar held a stealthily staged world premiere of her concert movie, “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.
The movie, which documents her Renaissance World Tour, will be released in the U.S. on Dec. 1 via major exhibition chains, including AMC, Regal and Cinemark. Beyoncé fans have noted that Dec. 1 also marks World AIDS Day – the singer dedicated her “Renaissance” album to her late cousin Johnny (she refers to him as “Uncle Johnny”), who died of AIDS-related illness.
Details of the premiere were kept under wraps, with guests invited with a save-the-date that only included the screening’s 7 p.m. start time and a “cozy opulence” dress code. The location, which turned out to be the Goldwyn Theater, was provided less than 24 hours before the start of the festivities. Guests were advised to take a...

There was to be a statement from Milestone explaining my absence, but in the three weeks since the story broke, Milestone 2.0 has not issued any statement.
Because there was no statement, comic book fans, Milestone fans, and my fan (I had two, one died) took to social media speculating as to why I was missing. Missing from news stories and missing from interviews, which was curious. I was no longer a part of the new venture, but in all the interviews, I was missing from the history of Milestone 2.0.

In a largely unprecedented move, ABC and Bet have negotiated for the Alphabet network's breakout hit "Scandal" to air on the cable net in early syndication.
With only a scant 29 episodes produced in the show's two season run available to repeat, Bet will begin airing Seasons One and Two this summer. Additionally, the deal stipulates that original episodes from the series' upcoming Season 3 will air no sooner than eight days after they run first on ABC.

She’ll be at the Oscars, but maybe in a ski parka considering the frigid– for Los Angeles–weather. Scott Rudin, producer of both “True Grit” and “The Social Network” is now said not to be coming. The blogger Nikki Finke has been punished by the Academy for publishing what she thinks is the rundown of the entire Oscar show and pronouncing it a bore–very dumb. Charlie Sheen has taped an ABC TV interview without advise or counsel of his publicist, Stan Rosenfield.
But the Oscars go on, as they must! Harvey Weinstein, bracing for a “King’s Speech” win, threw the best party of the weekend so far at SoHo House with dozens and dozens of stars from Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter to web moguls Jeff Bezos...

HollywoodNews.com: Who’da thunk it? The Ken doll was actually ahead of his time. “Toy Story 3,” with Ken voiced by Michael Keaton, confirms what we all intuited long ago — the fact that this doll is… a metrosexual.
In case you hadn’t heard, “metrosexual” is a word to describe a fella who’s proudly concerned with his appearance, from his gelled hairdo to his manicured fingernails. A term first coined in 1994 by British journalist Mark Simpson, the metrosexual male, unlike his scruffy haired, t-shirt wearing counterpart, knows how to moisturize, shop, and behave in public. He’d rather sip a glass of wine than down a 12-pack of beer. And like Ken, he revels in having a walk-in closet full of stylish outfits. It’s a phenomenon that confuses women and affects gaydar.
Just ask Ryan Seacrest, the mother of all metrosexuals. He always wears fashionable clothes,...

The artist who will forever be known as Prince took the stage on Sunday (June 27) to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 10th annual Bet Awards. "I was pretty wild in my younger days," the honoree said.
Bet's award presentation for Prince united generations and musical styles. Janelle Monae opened the tribute with an energetic cover of "Let's Go Crazy," a song that hit big a year before the 25-year-old was born. Next Up: jazz bassist Esperanza Spalding, strumming a custom electric upright bass, sang "If I Was Your Girlfriend." She was followed by five-months-pregnant Alicia Keys, who played the piano then climbed atop it to provocatively belt out "Adore." R&B diva Patti Labelle closed out with...

Once a fixture on Bet (Black Entertainment Television) from the late 80s through the early 2000s, Ed Gordon has returned to the network.
The journalist joined the cable TV station in 1988, but left to pursue other opportunities (60 Minutes II, Today, Dateline, NPR) soon after his Bet Tonight With Ed Gordon program was canceled eight years ago by Bet, a couple of years after Robert Johnson sold the station to Viacom. If I recall, Gordon’s exit wasn’t exactly amicable. He publicly criticized Bet, and lamented its demise.
Gordon will reportedly settle back in with Bet’s news division and contribute to various programs and specials.
“As Bet celebrates its 30th anniversary, it brings me great joy to welcome back one of America’s most prominent news personalities,” said network chairman and CEO Debra Lee.
So, do you care? Will this bring you back to Bet if you’re one...

New York -- Viacom Inc. is experiencing a "creative renaissance," president and CEO Philippe Dauman argued here Thursday at the company's annual shareholder meeting.
He and chairman Sumner Redstone promised that being a hit factory and having streamlined operations in the recession will further boost Viacom's shares and fortunes as the economy recovers.
"Creating hits is the name of the game," Dauman said at the meeting that ended in less than an hour.
He touted that Viacom shares are up 19% since the start of the year, compared to a 3% gain in the S&P 500 stock index and a peer group increase of 15%.
The comments came as shareholders and analysts continue to lament how weakly the stock has performed longer-term and as they question whether the company can maintain its cable networks' recent ratings momentum and fully turn around its film studio.

Bet Networks on Thursday took the wraps off a new basic-cable channel designed to attract an older, more affluent segment of the black television audience.
As part of the Viacom unit's annual upfront pitch to media buyers and clients, Betn president and COO Scott Mills introduced Centric, a new service "focused on and central to the African-American adult experience."
Set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2009, Centric is expected to replace Bet J, a spinoff of the flagship network that reaches some 32 million households. The target penetration for Centric's first day of operation is 45 million homes.
With a target audience of adults 25-54, Centric will join TV One as one of the few TV outlets developed expressly for middle-aged black consumers and their families. (Since the dissolution of Upn in 2006, clients looking to efficiently reach the demo have had to pony up for bulk-delivery vehicles like the NFL, "American Idol...

Bet Networks has named Loretha Jones and Stephen Hill to its top programming posts.
They fill the void left by Reginald Hudlin, who stepped down in September after three years as president of entertainment.
Jones, who was senior vp development at fellow Viacom unit Paramount/MTV Films, will serve as president of programming, responsible for original programming, news, development, planning and acquisitions.
Hill had run the network in the interim in an executive vp position. He now is president of programming, responsible for music programming and specials.
Both report to Bet Networks chairman and CEO Debra Lee, who said the decision to fill the top programming position with two executives was spurred by how much the role involves and added that there was no corporate pressure to hire from within the company.
