Jared Leto decided to go to the next level Thursday to promote his upcoming Seasons World Tour.
The Dallas Buyers Club star scaled a portion of the outside of the Empire State Building, making him the first person to ever legally climb to the top of the landmark, officials told the Today show.
After the climb, he told the NBC morning show, “I was more excited than nervous, to tell you the truth. But I have to be honest, it was very, very hard. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Just the endurance that it took, the stamina that it took, and it was very sharp.”
Leto, who is an avid rock climber in his free time, ascended from floors 86 to 104 on the east side of the building, putting him nearly 1,300 feet up in the air. Once he reached the area of the landmark that lights up,...

In case you were wondering what Jared Leto was up to this morning, the chameleon-like actor and frontman of the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars was busy climbing New York City’s iconic Empire State Building! Yup! You know, like you do!
Leto engaged in the first-ever complete climb of the landmark on the morning of November 9. Leto says he’s been fascinated with the historic building since he was a kid and could not think of a better way to celebrate the launch of Thirty Seconds to Mars’ 2024 tour than by scaling the massive structure. “The building is a testament of all the things that can be done in the world if we put our minds to it,” Jared explains, “which is largely the inspiration behind our most recent album, It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith recently went viral by expertly playing drums to Thirty Seconds to Mars’ “The Kill” as he heard the song for the first time. Now, 30Stm’s Jared and Shannon Leto have reacted to the “incredible” performance.
As Consequence was one of the first to report, Smith was challenged by the good folks at Drumeo to play along to a song he had never heard before. That song was “The Kill,” and, for lack of a better word, the Chili Peppers stickman absolutely killed it. Afterward, he exclaimed, “What the fuck was that? Is that like My Chemical Romance or something?”
That video has since gone on to garner nearly 5 million views just two weeks after being uploaded to YouTube, with fans expressing amazement in the comments at Smith’s ability to perform the track without knowing what was coming next.

Jared Leto, noted hiker and Coachella pro, has finally taken the next logical step in his outdoorsy lifestyle: His band 30 Seconds to Mars is launching a three-day "rustic nature experience" (see: summer camp) called Camp Mars in August exclusively for fans — or anyone willing to pay up to $2,000. For that top price, you'll enjoy two nights in either a semi-private cabin, dorm, or a room in a lodge in Malibu, where you can retire after an exhausting day of hiking, yoga, arts and crafts, a concert, and plenty of other camp activities. Two of the band's members, Shannon Leto and Tomo Miličević, will even join you for coffee and a cooking lesson. (Sadly, there's no one-on-one time with Jared scheduled just yet.)But if $2,000 sounds steep (a three-day Ga pass to Coachella is $375), they've also got the "Tree Huggin'" package, which, for $799, will still buy you...

Jared Leto is finally releasing his documentary Artifact, detailing his war with the music industry when record label Virgin/Emi sued his band 30 Seconds to Mars for $30 million in 2008.
Jared Leto's Documentary Artifact
Artifact began as a behind-the-scenes documentary of the making of the band’s album This Is War. When they began contract renegotiations with Emi during the recording process, the documentary quickly shifted into a sort of tell-all investigation into the relationship artists have with their record labels.
The movie, directed by Leto himself, first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2012 where it won the People’s Choice Documentary Award, and, over a year later, is finally being released on VOD and iTunes.

The Hollywood Film Awards honors cherished stars, filmmakers, and up-and-coming talent, and traditionally kicks off the film awards season with the biggest stars and top industry executives in attendance. Past Hollywood Breakout Performance Award honorees have included Jamie Foxx, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Naomi Watts. Enjoying some brotherly bonding while on tour, Jared and Shannon Leto hit up Grona Lund amusement park in Stockholm, Sweden on Thursday (June 20).
The 30 Seconds to Mars frontman rocked a black denim vest, dark shirt, and faded jeans as he checked out some rides before hitting the stage later that night.
Though currently sporting long brown locks, the 41-year-old singer/actor is questioning his coif, enlisting the help of his fans to decide what to do with it.
Sharing an Instagram photo of his 'do, Jared asked, "Should I cut off this hippy hair?" He's rocked everything from a mohawk to a buzz cut in the past. What do you think?...

Revolving around the events that saw 30 Seconds to Mars sued by their own record label back in 2008 for $30m., Artifact is one of the greatest music documentaries ever made, and an important documentary for our times.
The music industry has been struggling for the best part of a decade with technology developing at a faster rate than it can keep up with, and this documentary gives an honest, frank, and inside look at the antiquated system that bands are faced with when they’re attached to a major label.
It’s easy to think of our favourite, globally-successful artists as wealthy individuals, but Artifact shows us that often the opposite is true. When they attempted to exercise their legal right to excuse themselves from their contract, Virgin/Emi went on the offensive and sued 30 Seconds to Mars for $30m., claiming further that the label was owed $1.7m. from the band.

In August 2008, Virgin Records tried to sue the band 30 Second to Mars, headed by front-man/actor Jared Leto (Fight Club, Mr. Nobody), for $30m.
Over the next eight and a half months, Leto and the band would head into the studio to record their third album, This Is War, both without the backing of their label, and with the $30m. lawsuit still hanging over their heads.
In April of the following year, the lawsuit was finally annulled, and the band announced they would be returning to their label, Emi/Virgin, for the release of the new record.
Along the way, it’s now surfaced that Leto and his fellow band – currently consisting of Leto, brother Shannon Leto, and Tomo Miličević – were recording a documentary about the experience, Artifact, which has officially been accepted into this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
Absolutely immense.

Last we heard from 30 Seconds to Mars, the band was battling rumors about a potential break while celebrating a record-setting December live show in New York.
But after a few months of radio silence, not only are 30Stm not taking time off, they're forging ahead with their fourth album. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, singer Jared Leto said the group's "excitedly working in the studio."
In fact, Leto said he's been quietly toiling away writing and recording "constantly" as he crafts the band's future. He's clearly been busy, as the singer revealed that he's written 50 songs and is finalizing a list of producers for the as-yet-untitled effort, including M83's Morgan Kibby.

30 Seconds To Mars have revealed that they do not have any imminent plans to split up. Frontman Jared Leto has previously hinted that the band may part ways after their recent world tour. However, the group have now clarified that they have no intention of splitting up soon and insisted that they are only concentrating on the "here and now". Shannon Leto told Kerrang! magazine: "We've never said this is 'the end'." Jared added: "But I think there has been a question mark there for all of us. In part because people started to ask us so much about the future and our reaction is, 'Well, let's talk about the here and now'. Which is important to us. "We don't know what the future has to hold, but we know we're excited about it and this tour has (more)...

New York — For a band that, over the past three years, has been no stranger to adversity — everything from battles with their label to scraps with censors and the occasional stage collapse — 30 Seconds to Mars had probably never had to deal with the kind of trouble that occurred during the encore of their record-setting show Wednesday night in New York.
During the crashing crescendo of "Kings and Queens," a female fan was crushed against a barricade and required immediate medical assistance. "Queens" was the final song of the band's set, which was preceded by a lengthy presentation from the folks at Guinness World Records, who honored 30Stm for Most Shows Played During An Album Cycle (309 was Guinness' count). 30 Seconds to Mars released This Is War in December 2009 and have spent basically every waking moment since on the road promoting it (when they weren't making 15-minute, Nfsw mini-movies, of course). To date, they've played shows on six continents, and now, all that touring will earn them a place in the "Guinness Book of World Records."
On December 7, 30Stm will perform their 300th — and final — show in support of War, at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom. And when that gig is completed, they'll officially set the record for Most Shows Performed During a Single Album Cycle.

At last year's Video Music Awards, 30 Seconds to Mars wreaked havoc on the white carpet, very nearly blinded drummer Shannon Leto with a "glitter bomb" and took home the award for Best Rock Video — all within the span of roughly three hours. Needless to say, it was a night they'll remember for a long time.
Now that their epic, ultra-nsfw "Hurricane" video has been nominated for a trio of awards — Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Editing — at the 2011 VMAs, how do they plan to top last year's madness? Well, for starters, they're going to show up.
"I'm not sure if the technical awards are even on the show, but we definitely plan on being there.

Last week, MTV Canada made waves when it reported that 30 Seconds to Mars were set to break up after the conclusion of their 2011 tour (which, judging by the band's current run of shows, should be sometime in early September).
The basis of that report? A few comments the band made in an interview with the channel, the majority of which seemed to be, first and foremost, jokes (especially the part where Jared Leto called his band "old road dogs," drawled about his desire for some iced tea and quoted Outkast). Still, in the time since the story first broke, 30Stm have yet to address the rumor, a fact that has stoked the flames of panic among their fanbase.

The 'full-length, explicit director's cut' of the epic video premiered on Thursday.

On Thursday, after two weeks of wrangling, protesting and explaining, 30 Seconds to Mars finally unveiled the "full-length explicit director's cut" (as frontman Jared Leto put it) of their epic "Hurricane" video, which, oddly enough, ended up being two seconds shorter than the version that premiered on MTV.com last month.
Obviously, that's not the only difference between the two videos — we bet you can guess which one features shots of nipple clamps — so we've decided to watch both side by side and take note of all the uncensored action. That includes all the shenanigans you'd probably expect (Leather! Breasts! A woman dressed as a patent-leather horse!) and some you might not (like the mysteriously disappearing camera at Leto's bedside).
So here's a breakdown of all the naughtiness in the uncensored version,...

A mini movie in support of 30 Seconds to Mars' single "Hurricane" has been premiered in full, featuring a lot of racy scenes. Divided into three chapters, birth, life and death, the short film features Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic fighting off their inner demons and living up dark fantasies involving a lot of violence and secret fetishes.
Due to the explicit content, TV networks refused to air the mini movie directed by Bartholomew Cubbins (Jared) unless it's edited. "We always knew there would be some images that would have a tough time getting through," Jared told Entertainment Weekly. "But we didn't expect this kind of pushback that we're getting now."
Though so, the censored one still hasn't met some of the TV standards. "I had always planned on having an explicit version and then a version that was not so explicit," he further said. "The version that we...

In anticipation of 30 Seconds to Mars' "Hurricane" video premiere on next Monday, November 29, two more sneak peeks are offered. One teases guitarist Tomo Milicevic's character, and the other previews an older creepy guy who is observing something on his computer.
