Maybe refrain from tweeting on set while a strike is happening, Kim Kardashian.
On Friday, the reality show superstar decided to check in with her 74.9 million followers by writing “I’m on the set of AHS and we have some time between shows. What are you all up to????” Kardashian is starring in the 12th season of American Horror Story — one of several Ryan Murphy productions that have remained in production during the WGA strike.
Instead of getting the usual inquiries about her Skims, her fam and her dating status, she was immediately answered by striking writers — lots of them.
“Picketing, thanks for asking,” wrote one writer.
“Not being a scab,” said another.
“Can you post a cute selfie with the call sheet (advance schedule facing the camera)?” added a strike captain.
“Kim, this is a beautiful opportunity to show some solidarity and tell us if anyone is making script mods on site,...

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher took some heat for comments she made on the picket line May 8, including how she doesn’t think what is “very important to writers … is the kind of the stuff that we’re [the actors] going after.”
But while guesting Tuesday on SiriusXM’s The Julie Mason Show, the former star of The Nanny said both her union and the WGA were “all cogs in the same wheel” and that “it’s important that we sit by our sister unions in solidarity.”
“That’s what makes labor powerful,” she told the radio show. “And it’s a very interdependent and collaborative art form. And everybody’s contribution needs to be honored. And the industry at large has changed so significantly with the advent of digital and streaming that it’s inevitable that when this time where, you know, many of the unions are about to renegotiate, SAG-AFTRA included,...

In addition to film and TV, Walter also found success in theater, starring in Broadway productions like “Advise & Consent,” Neil Simon’s “Rumors,” “A Severed Head,” “Nightlife” and “Photo Finish,” which earned her the Clarence Derwent Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

Al Franken’s name once again trended on social media Monday thanks to a lengthy profile on the former Minnesota Senator by Jane Mayer in The New Yorker.
The story, which runs more than 12,000 words, features an extensive interview with Franken. The former writer and performer on Saturday Night Live reflects on having to resign from his U.S. Senate seat in December 2017, after several accusations of inappropriate physical contact with women.
Mayer’s own Twitter tease for her story sums up her feelings on the matter: “How @alfranken got railroaded,” she wrote before linking to the piece.
“I don’t think people who have been sexually assaulted, and those kinds of things, want to hear from people who have been #MeToo’d that they’re victims,” Franken, 68, tells Mayer.
Having suffered a deep clinical depression in the aftermath of the case, he recalled that his therapist compared the experience to...

Stranger Things’ David Harbour plays Frankenstein-as-monster in Netflix’s bizarre yet entertaining mockumentary.

Who knew that David Harbour, currently enjoying a career high as Stranger Things’ gruff sheriff Jim Hopper, had such a knack for absurdist comedy? Or that “David Harbour III” (a fictionalized version of himself) had a dark family legacy bound up in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the theatah!
Watching Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein, Netflix’s odd half-hour mockumentary about a made-for-tv play that ended in tragedy, feels like watching a friend’s weird indie show, or—perhaps more universal—your friend showing you something random-but-mesmerizing like “Too Many Cooks” on YouTube. After emerging from the rabbit hole, you’re entertained, to be sure, but you also wonder What the hell did I just watch?
In this case, the answer would seem to be: a send-up of the made-for-tv play and other...

One thing the new mockumentary “Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein” does quite well is prove that there are perks to appearing on a streaming service’s signature hit.
David Harbour, the stolid and familiar presence from Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” is given the opportunity to cut loose here with a broad, loopy half-hour that feels a bit like one long comedy sketch, with all that implies. He’s evidently having a great deal of fun playing his fictional late father, a pompous theater actor who acted in his own play about Dr. Frankenstein and recorded the piece for posterity. But even half an hour is a generous amount of time to give to a story that feels, well, sketchy, with reversals whose pile-up is more novel than truly funny and with jokes that feel underwritten at best.
Harbour also plays himself in the present day, working to uncover more...

Stranger Things’ David Harbour plays his “father” in this Netflix mockumentary about an ill-fated Frankenstein TV play.
Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein is a title that will make a lot more sense if you accept the fact that “Frankenstein’s Monster” – not “Frankenstein” – is the actual name of Mary Shelley’s resurrected title character. Consequently, it will then become clear to you that this Netflix offering is not an adaptation of said story, but, rather, a mockumentary about a TV production of it, with which Stranger Things’ David Harbour creates an eccentric pseudo-history.
Indeed, Harbour briefly put aside his Stranger Things small town police chief Jim Hopper, to play, well, David Harbour – a fictionalized version of his “father,” named David Harbour Jr., an eccentric thespian resembling a late-life Orson Welles who, via 40-year-old lost footage, is depicted in the midst of a hilariously quixotic attempt to...

‘Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein’ Trailer: Let David Harbour Explain What Is Going On
Netflix hasn’t officially declared this July as David Harbour Month, but there’s one more piece of evidence suggesting that it may just happen regardless.
The service unveiled the first official extended look at “Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein,” a mockumentary with a premise as convoluted as its title. Harbour, who also will be soon seen in the third season of the runaway hit series “Stranger Things,” plays a fictionalized version of himself who finds video evidence of a complicated family history on the stage.
In this twisting created family history, Harbour’s dad was a misunderstood acting genius who put on televised productions of theatrical works. One recently excavated tape shows the elder Harbour in a role as the classic literary Dr. Frankenstein, who just so happens to be pretending to be a monster at the same time. This aging actor sure has a Wellesian penchant for impeccable diction,...

David Harbour is getting stranger for Netflix’s upcoming mockumentary “Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein.” If that title didn’t already make it clear this project would be even weirder than Harbour’s “Stranger Things,” the trailer certainly will, as it features Harbour playing very dramatic versions of both himself and his “father,” David Harbour Jr.
In the 1-minute, 31-second clip above, Harbour explains how he’s been uncovering “lost footage” of his dad and his made-for-tv play, “Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein,” to learn about his “father.” The trailer gives you a tiny taste of what’s in this “found footage,” which is the not-so-stable, acting genius David Harbour Jr. and his dreams for his masterpiece.
(In real life, Harbour’s dad, Ken, sells commercial real estate in Westchester County, New York.)

How soon is too soon? That’s the question on a lot of people’s minds following Louis C.K.’s surprise appearance at the Comedy Cellar in New York City over the weekend for his first stand-up routine since last November, when he admitted to multiple instances of sexual misconduct.
While some crisis management experts called the Emmy winner’s return to the stage premature, others told TheWrap it was as smooth a re-entry as anyone could have predicted less than a year after a very public disgrace.
“Nine months is not long enough — he came back a little too soon,” Richard Levick, chairman of crisis management firm Levick, told TheWrap. “Even Betty Ford spent more time out of circulation.”
Susan Tellem, a partner with Tellem Grody PR, Inc. in Malibu, California, agreed, telling TheWrap: “While as a crisis manager, I would have said, ‘No, do not do that’ to Louis Ck,...

Louis C.K.’s surprising return Sunday to the stand-up stage was met with heavy criticism after he performed a set at New York’s Comedy Cellar.
“Louis Ck being ‘banished’ from stand-up comedy wasn’t some kind of petty punishment, it was a f—ing workplace safety issue,” tweeted fellow comedian Ian Karmel, in a lengthy thread. “Can you imagine the bank you’re working at hiring back the guy who jacked off in front of women without their consent because it had been like, a year or something?”
Comic Dan Telfer was more blunt, telling C.K. in a tweet to “get the f— offstage,” adding, “If you repeatedly undermine other people’s careers so you can trap these human beings and force them to witness you masturbate then you don’t get that career anymore.”

The 2018 Writers Guild of America Awards take place on Feb. 11 with simultaneous ceremonies held in both New York and Los Angeles. Only scripts written under the guild’s guidelines or those of several international partners are allowed to vie for these awards. As such, these kudos are not the most reliable barometer of the Oscars.
In the past nine years only 59 of the WGA nominees have numbered among the 90 screenplays that reaped Academy Awards bids. Indeed, 2014’s Oscar winner for Best Original Screenplay, “Birdman,” was deemed ineligible. Likewise for one of this year’s leading contenders for that award: “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”
On the television side, the leading nominees are “Better Call Saul,” which competes for best drama series writing as well as for two individual episodes and “The Americans,” which is up for both overall drama series writing and an individual episode. Over in comedy, reigning Emmy...

For music fans, nothing is more annoying than when an iconic band splits into two rival factions. That's the scenario in a new Portlandia teaser, which finds psych-rock veterans the Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne leading his own solo project, "the Flaming Lips Featuring Wayne Coyne," while his former bandmates operate as "More Flaming Lips."
The clip finds those feuding groups attempting to check into Portland's Pickathon Music Festival, where Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein play two annoyed staff members. The comedic duo can't figure out the proper laminate situation,...

Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen return to the weird, wonderful world of Portlandia in a hilarious, feelings-fraught trailer for the show's upcoming sixth season.
The clip features a slew of stolen glances, longing stares and passionate embraces between an array of characters both old and new, including a profound moment between a sensitive musician played by Armisen and guest star Zoë Kravitz. Other experiences, however, are less cinematically sensual, such as when Candace — Armisen's feminist bookstore owner — disrobes in front of Brownstein for some tasteful nude portraiture.

"Kroll Show," the new sketch series from comedian Nick Kroll ("The League), has been a sizable enough hit after only two episodes for Comedy Central to order a second 10-episode season. According to the network's president of content development and original programming Kent Alterman, this was practically a medical decision: "Nick plays his characters with such comedic conviction, it's become obvious he has a serious personality disorder. We hope another season will help him discover who he really is." The show, which is executive produced and written by Kroll, John Levenstein ("Arrested Development") and Jonathan Krisel ("Portlandia"), has been a success with Comedy Central's target male demographic. It features Kroll playing multiple characters, including some he first used in his stand-up act, like would-be entrepreneur and ladies' man Bobby Bottleservice. First season guest stars have...

Nick Kroll is about to be in a league all his own. The stand-up/actor/writer — who plays the shameless Ruxin on FX comedy The League — is taking center stage with Kroll Show, his sketch comedy series premiering tonight at 10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central. Piloted by Kroll, Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia), and John Levenstein (Arrested Development), Kroll Show features recurring characters, questionable facial hair, surprise Gatorade showers, and a human-canine speed-dating show. Plus: Appearances by comedic forces like Ed Helms, Adam Pally, Fred Arimsen, Jb Smoove, Maria Bamford, Jason Mantzoukas, and Chelsea Peretti! Sound pretty good? Hold on a sec.

Diane Haithman contributes to Deadline’s TCA coverage. Nick Kroll, star of Comedy Central’s new Kroll Show, said today at TCA the show will feature about “46%” characters he has created before, including “The Ed Hardy Boyz” and Fabrice Fabrice. “It was really whatever was making the room laugh the most,” said Kroll (The League), who appeared on the panel with collaborators Jon Daly, Jonathan Krisel and John Levenstein. “It will have a strong narrative thread, you will learn more about these characters with each episode.” Director and executive producer Krisel, who also directs Portlandia, called Kroll Show a completely different style of comedy. “Portlandia has its own aesthetic and sort of style, which to me is excellent, but there’s more of a parody going on” with Kroll, he said. “It has more of a movie trailer kind of feel.” Related: Comedy Central Picks Up ‘Drunk History’ To Series,...
