A teenage girl meets all manner of extremists, hipsters and hoodlums in Sean Price Williams’ amusing, contemporary adventure
High-school student Lillian (Talia Ryder) gets separated from her classmates and chaperones at a pizza parlour during a school trip to Washington DC because a deranged shooter is convinced paedophiles are operating out of its basement. And so begins an adventure up and back down the eastern seaboard, taking Lillian from her native South Carolina up through the nation’s capital, to New York City, Vermont and beyond, meeting all manner of eccentrics, extremists, hipsters and hoodlums. It’s the sort of lolloping, weird ride through society that’s a textbook example of the classical picaresque, in which a low-born, none-too-honest but appealing protagonist gets up to stuff. Think of 18th-century novels like Tom Jones or Moll Flanders, but updated to contemporary America – although the film contrives to get Lillian dolled up in revolutionary-era petticoats and corsetry,...

Following a highly anticipated release, Avatar: The Last Airbender surpassed Netflix’s previous One Piece adaption by 13% in terms of viewership last week. Official Netflix statistics show that from February 19 to February 25, the streamer’s live-action version of the well-liked cartoon series received 21.2 million views and more than 153 million hours of viewing.
Gordon Cormier as Aang in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender
Taking all of this into account, it reflects well for fans looking for a second season of this live-action adaptation of The Last Airbender. The anime follows the exploits of Aang, played by Gordon Cormier, a monk-like youngster who can manipulate the four elements: water, earth, fire, and air.
While the series was a success in a major way, there was one scene of Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender that was so emotional that it made fans cry. Fans took to X to express their emotions...

Religious hysteria, family secrets and a tinge of the occult make hard times all the harder for protagonists in “Queen of Bones.” This Ontario-shot U.S. indie production is a rural gothic with echoes of both “Flowers in the Attic’s” dark YA melodrama and “Carrie’s” supernaturally vengeful coming of age. But it lacks the bold ideas and execution to approach those stories’ impact, winding up an underwhelming if watchable exploration of familiar themes and character types. Falling Forward Films plans a theatrical release for later this year, though this mild thriller would seem likelier to find an audience in home formats.

For the past decade-and-a-half, cinematographer Sean Price Williams has been a staple of the New York indie-film scene, lensing features for (naming just a handful) the Safdie brothers, Alex Ross Perry, Michael Almereyda, Robert Greene.
The Sweet East finds Williams moving to the director’s chair with a script from film critic Nick Pinkerton. Deliberately provocative and very funny, The Sweet East begins with a Pizzagate sequence that separates high-schooler Lillian from her classmates in D.C. From there she drifts throughout the Northeast, mingling with a cast of outsiders who all take a special, often sexual interest in her, among them a disorganized band of Antifa-esque punks, an over-eager filmmaking duo (Ayo Edebiri and playwright Jeremy O. Harris), and closeted Neo-Nazi academic Lawrence (Simon Rex).

[This story contains spoilers for the season finale of The Changeling.]
The Changeling showrunner Kelly Marcel, and author and executive producer Victor Lavalle, say last Friday’s season finale was never designed to be an ending for the adaptation. But, they did want viewers to come away from the Apple TV+ series’ first season with a “what the fuck” feeling.
The duo, who appeared on a Saturday panel for the show at New York Comic Con, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the season finale, which saw Apollo (Lakeith Stanfield) and Cal (Jane Kaczmarek) — the leader of a band of women who have had their babies stolen by a Norwegian male-led cult called the Kinder Garten — joining forces against a cult member named William (Samuel T. Herring) and a giant, destructive “Fairy.”

“The Changeling’s” latest episode steps back in time to New York — in 1982, to be precise.
For production designer Lester Cohen, he needed to find a place where he could build his red-light area and seedy hotel.
The episode begins with Lillian (Adina Porter) walking through the red-light district in New York where peep shows cost 25 cents. She is still trying to get hold of Apollo (Lakeith Stanfield), leaving him messages. It has been three weeks since he went missing. She enters the Elk Hotel, a seedy joint. Narrator Victor Lavalle, who also penned the book of the same name, describes it as “the shittiest hotel in the world.”
As it turns out, the hotel is 100 years old. The lobby decor is just as seedy — red and rancid. An old TV with the news is on when she...

[This story contains spoilers from episode seven of The Changeling.]
In “Stormy Weather,” the penultimate episode of The Changeling, all the flashbacks of Apollo’s (Lakeith Stanfield) childhood and the early days of his mother’s relationship with his father Brian (Jared Abrahamson) that have been sprinkled throughout the season bring viewers to the Elk Hotel in Times Square, a seedy location steeped in even darker memories. It’s there that Lillian Kagwa (Adina Porter) recounts the deal she made decades prior, which sets in motion the turmoil her son is now enduring as a father.
Through a series of monologues, a vocal performance and musings on faith, motherhood and identity that unfold like a secret stage play only select audiences have privy to, Lillian reveals the totality of the incident that forced her to emigrate from Uganda to the United States, and the chilling threats Brian nearly made good on one day that forced her to kill...

While the latest episode of The Changeling felt like an epic on its own, it also felt very misplaced as a whole in the show. What’s really messing with me is the timeline in which the story is told, and to put such an experiment in the second-last position before the finale was an interesting choice to say the least. It is clearly a dream sequence, but there are so many things that are confusing that make us question so much more than we did before. Frankly, the waiting isn’t helping this show, because by the time we get a new episode, some details are lost in time. As someone who hasn’t read the book, The Changeling Episode 7 can be either awe-inspiring or plain weird. While the plot thickens, it also spreads itself too thin in places, making the show feel all over the place. We learn...

It’s not much of a spoiler to say that the final image of Sean Price Williams’s solo feature directorial debut, The Sweet East, is that of Talia Ryder’s Lillian nonchalantly strolling toward and past the camera, a smirk on her face. That’s effectively the whole vibe of the film, an odyssey that traipses through the world of white supremacist academics, PizzaGate conspiracy theorists, self-satisfied filmmakers, mixed-media artists of questionable talent, and religious zealots. And as these various figure heads of a post-whatever world aspire to approximate, at once, political and social fragmentation, reactionaryism, delusion, provocation, and apathy, there Lilian is, eyes like butterfly knives being toyed with by a bored teenager.

“The Changeling” director and executive producer Jonathan van Tulleken broke down how he captured a “painful” scene that was inspired by “The Changeling” author Victor Lavalle’s real-life experience growing up. The scene — where Apollo Kagwa’s (Lakeith Stanfield) mother is compelled to leave her young son home alone while she goes to work — plays out in the third episode of Apple TV+ series.
Fear and uncertainty describe what a viewer might experience while watching the Stanfield-led horror-drama, “The Changeling.” But those words can also describe the experience of parenthood, which is one of the backdrops upon which “The Changeling” rests.

Night of the Caregiver sounds like a Lifetime movie about a psycho home health aid. It’s actually a new supernatural horror film from producer Alexander Nevsky and director/co-star Joe Cornet two men better known for Westerns and action films than scary stuff. Can they successfully make the switch?
Julia Rowe has been taken an assignment as an in-home caregiver for Lillian Gresham, a sweet old lady who, of course, lives in the middle of nowhere. It’s Friday night but, “It pays really well, more for one night than I make in a week”, which should also be a red flag.
And we know something isn’t right due to the prologue that gives way to a scene from “13 hours earlier” where Detective Roman Eckhart (Joe Cornet), of the NYPD,...

As their doppelgängers grow in strength their only hope lies in finding the hypnotist who created the recording years ago. Featuring a mesmerizing score by Rickard Gramfors and a haunting performance by Christina Lindberg (Thriller: A Cruel Picture), Black Circle is a film you won’t soon forget.

The Wonder Years continues to make us laugh in its second season on ABC.
The successful reboot continues tonight with an episode titled "Like a Boss."
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at one of the many comical scenes ahead, and it features one of the true constants of the series:
Dulé Hill's perfect comedy timing.
We don't want to delve too far into what happens in the clip because then you won't have much incentive to watch.
But we can talk about the episode.
"After Lillian's boss announces budget cuts, she is forced to make a decision and enforce boundaries between her personal and professional life," the description reads.
"Dean and Cory's friendship hits a few speed bumps as they work together for the boxcar derby."
The clip focuses on the latter, with Dean and Cory preparing for the boxcar derby and the reaction from the...

Utopia has acquired North American rights to “The Sweet East,” a contemporary travelogue that marks the feature directing debut of Sean Price Williams. The sale comes after the film debuted at Director’s Fortnight during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
Williams has a reputation as one of the most talented cinematographers in the independent film space, having previously worked with the likes of the Safdie Brothers, Alex Ross Perry, Michael Almereyda, Abel Ferrara and Albert Maysles. Here, he brings a script by cult film critic Nick Pinkerton to the screen.
Critics hailed the film as fresh and often funny, while praising the performance of Talia Ryder, who played a key supporting role in “Never Rarely Sometimes Always.” In “The Sweet East,” she plays Lillian, who runs away while on a school trip, encountering everyone from white supremacists and Islamic radicals to neo-punks and woke avant-gardists. “The Wonder Years” set the stage for an awkward “West Wing” reunion ahead of the ABC sitcom’s latest episode Wednesday.
In an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap, Bill Williams (Dulé Hill) and his wife Lillian (Saycon Sengbloh) have a quick conversation about the party they’re attending at the home of his new friend Alan (Bradley Whitford).
After delighting party guests with a Marvin Gaye joke, Bill is interrupted by Lillian after she comes to him with a concerned look on her face and suggesting they should both go home.
“I think this is some kind of sex party,” Lillian tells her husband in the clip. He tries to ease her mind, saying that she should stop reading their daughter Kim’s Cosmopolitan magazine.
“Sex party? My goodness Lillian, just be cool,” he adds, before Alan comes behind and puts his arm around him.
“Hey, you guys want to come down to the basement?...

The Cutler novel series by V.C. Andrews portrays an exceptionally disturbing and scandalous family. The TV adaptation, Dawn, intensifies the drama, focusing on sexual scandals within an aristocratic household. The story follows Dawn, a hapless teenage girl who was kidnapped at birth and raised in challenging circumstances, but with love from her abductors. However, her life takes a tragic turn when she reunites with her biological family, the Cutlers, who treat her like a servant, contrasting the affection she was given in her previous home. The TV series tries to create a dark and mysterious atmosphere to build tension, but at its core, the story mainly revolves around scandalous and eye-rolling twists regarding the mistakes made by Dawn and her family.

What is it about the '80s that it delivers on all the campy, juicy drama?
V.C. Andrews' Twilight's Child was a particularly soaptastic edition in the Cutler Saga with a wedding, two funerals, and the return of not one but two hellions from Dawn's past.
All Jimmy and Dawn were trying to do was live their lives happily with sweet Christie, but family, am I right?
Alas, our girl Dawn is finally holding her own, though, dysfunctional Af family and all.
She started from the bottom, and now she's here.
Credit where it's due, Twilight's Child, unlike V.C. Andrews' Heaven Saga or The Landry Series, actually did things like remember to bring up those long abandoned siblings and pull on dangling strings that would typically leave us hanging.
We were up to our eyeballs in side kids during this film, weren't we? It was a genuine shock that they did,...

The secrets came tumbling out during this chapter of the V.C. Andrews Cutler Saga.
We spent much of V.C. Andrews' Secrets of the Morning watching sweet, reasonable Dawn be a fool in lust for a sleazy celebrity with decent hair. Who among us hasn't been there?
Secrets of the Morning had it all. We got entertaining lovable side characters, like the darling, devoted, and badass Tricia. The film also gave us some quality Fran Drescher content with her role as the nosy Agnes.
Secrets of the Morning also gave us eternally hot NKotB, Joey McIntyre playing a total sleaze ball while rocking the hell out of some bell bottoms, an antiquated house of horrors, the death of a Queen Biotch, and Dawn's come-up!
What more can you want?
Picking things up from where V.C. Andrews' Dawn left off, our girl was free of Lillian, or so she thought,...

Oh yes, Lifetime is back covering another V.C. Andrews Saga.
And we're back with our reviews of this utter madness. We're kicking off the cutthroat Cutlers saga with V.C. Andrews' Dawn this time.
And the generational battle of the badass blonds was deliciously epic and entertaining.
It wouldn't be a V.C. Andrews special without scandalous family secrets, shady rich people, incestual relationships worth side-eying, and deliciously evil women.
But dare one say they were fairly light on some of those things, which was a bit of a surprise.
Another surprise was just how enjoyable Dawn Longchamp Cutler (?) was as a protagonist.
No offense to some of the other V.C. Andrews' girlies, ahem, Heaven, let's be real, it's freaking Heaven, but for the most part, Dawn at least seemed like she had full control of the brain cell at all times, if you catch my drift.

Donna Mills’ most famous TV part is undoubtedly the manipulative Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner, whom she deliciously played for nine seasons (1980-89) on CBS’s primetime soap Knots Landing. But the actress says that even Abby might run and hide from powerful hotel owner Lillian Cutler in Lifetime’s limited series V.C. Andrews’ Dawn, premiering Saturday, July 8. “People say to me, ‘You’re used to playing the bad girl because you played Abby.’ And I say, ‘Lillian is way badder!’” In the premiere, Lillian’s nastiness is unleashed on innocent teen Dawn Longchamp, who learns that she’s really the presumed-dead Eugenia Cutler, and the humble “parents” she grew up with (played by Jesse Metcalfe and Helena Marie) abducted her as a baby. Being a minor, Dawn has no choice but to be separated from her loving brother, Jimmy (Khobe Clarke), and move in with grandmother Lillian, who quickly...

A storybook Los Angeles house once owned by Walt Disney is available for rent for $40,000 per month. The quaint four-bedroom home in the Los Feliz neighborhood looks like something out of one of Disney’s fairytale animated movies, complete with a turret, cozy fireplace, leaded glass windows, and a romantic curved staircase with a wrought iron railing.
Walt Disney lived in the house with his wife and daughters Walt Disney house | Joel Danto of TheLuxLevel
Disney built the house in 1932. He lived there with his wife, Lillian, and two daughters, Sharon and Diane until 1950, when the family moved to a home in the Holmby Hills neighborhood. One of the property’s many unique features is a cottage-style “Snow White” playhouse in the backyard that was a Christmas gift to Disney’s daughters in 1937. He had his studio’s staff come in and construct the miniature house overnight to surprise the girls.

Note: The following contains spoilers from “The Wonder Years” Season 2 Premiere.
This is what an ally looks like! “The Wonder Years” star Dulé Hill celebrated the introduction of a queer character into the Williams family’s 1960s-era world and hopes the storyline will spark conversations and empathy amid renewed anti-drag and anti-trans rhetoric in America today.
Wednesday night’s Season 2 premiere of the ABC comedy series followed Dean (Elisha “Ej” Williams) heading to New York City with his father, after Bill (Hill) got a once-in-a-lifetime songwriting gig for the summer. The father-son duo befriended their neighbor Lonnie (Tituss Burgess), a performer who dresses as a woman both on and off the stage.
The first time Bill and Dean saw Lonnie in a dress, Bill was resistant to engage. Dean was confused but unmoved. Later, Lonnie sat with Dean after he was locked out of the apartment he was sharing with...

The Wonder Years Recap: Phoebe Robinson and Tituss Burgess Drop by the Season 2 Premiere — Grade It!
Summertime usually calls for outdoor barbecues, big family gatherings and an overall good time. For The Wonder Years’ Dean and his father Bill, the summer of 1969 was an opportunity to take a giant leap forward.
Wednesday’s Season 2 premiere found father and son in New York City while Bill attempted to write a song for legendary singer Marvin Gaye. Bill struggled to find his groove (and get Gaye’s attention) while an extremely bored Dean was stuck at home all day. Dean’s greatest excitement was seeing his neighbor Lonnie (guest star Tituss Burgess) pass by while dressed in drag.

The Wonder Years is finally back! And we’re happy to report it’s back better than ever.
After an excellent freshman outing, the series returns for its second effort on ABC, with back-to-back episodes to kick off another season of laughter.
TV Fanatic scooped up an exclusive clip from the premiere hour, which sees Lillian’s visiting sister causing quite a stir when she provides a juicy testimonial to a packed church crowd.
Aunt Jackie is played by the hilarious Phoebe Robinson, who makes quite the impression when she turns up in Montgomery to spend time with her family.
As you’ll see in the clip below, Jackie has no qualms about putting her business (and the business of others) out there when she meets the congregation in Montgomery.
Jackie’s arrival will undoubtedly throw Lillian for a loop, as her sister has a reputation that precedes her.
