Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
The single biggest recurring question that has arisen over the course of this editorial series is “what constitutes an Amityville film?” It’s the basic impetus to go through all of these films chronologically, regardless of quality or connective tissue to the original film or the books.
It’s also why complaints in the comments that everything past a certain point (ie: either A New Generation or the remake* apparently) no longer qualifies are immaterial and frankly kinda boring. It’s always been more interesting to consider how and why filmmakers are using “Amityville” in their films – for better or worse.
* If the remake counts, then surely The Amityville Murders also counts, no?
The reality is that, particularly with the last few entries in the “franchise,...

Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) is a beloved heroin on Days of Our Lives. Since her return in 2018, Maggie Horton’s (Suzanne Rogers) daughter has been front and center in major storylines. But the young doctor has left Salem, and many wonder if she’ll return.

Like many Days of Our Lives characters, Sarah’s life is full of drama. Her latest turmoil stemmed from her divorce from Xander Cook (Paul Telfer). After learning about Xander’s kidnapping of Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk), Sarah was furious with her husband. To make things worse, Xander conspired with Sarah’s enemy Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien), to keep his secrets.
Unable to forgive him, Sarah filed for divorce. As much as it pained Sarah, she decided she needed a fresh start away from Xander.

Days of our Lives spoilers for next week’s episodes of the hit Peacock soap opera tease so much chaos erupting in Salem.
As fall kicks off, big things are happening on the daytime drama, and November sweeps are right around the corner.
One hot-button storyline involves Orpheus (George DelHoyo) injecting Kate (Lauren Koslow), Marlena (Deidre Hall), and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans).
Things take a turn next week. Rex (Kyle Lowder) returns to town with an answer that might save his mother but not Kayla or Marlena. It sounds like Orpheus poisoned them with different deadly toxins, which is not surprising.
Meanwhile, Stephanie (Abigail Klein) is livid that Steve (Stephen Nichols) and Kayla kept her out of the loop.
That’s just a glimpse of what’s going down in Salem. Let’s take a look at the other must-see Days moments for next week.

Gabi prepares to get married again on Days. Pic credit: NBC
Days of our Lives spoilers tease that as the hit soap opera moves to Peacock, the show’s bringing its A-game to ensure fans stick with it.
On Friday, Days aired its final episode on NBC. The last show got off by two minutes just as Gabi (Camila Banus) was about to see an alive Stefan (Brandon Barash) due to King Charles’ speech.
The cliffhanger was intended to help persuade viewers to follow the daytime drama to Peacock.
Ahead of the show being cut off, Days of our Lives debuted a fall promo filled with jaw-dropping moments, including Eric (Greg Vaughan) and Nicole (Arianne Zucker) finally giving into their feelings.
Unfortunately for them, Jada (Elia Cantu) spies the passionate kiss. Later Jada faints with Rafe (Galen Gering) there to catch her.

"I heard that you had... had something to talk to us about." Gravitas Ventures unveiled an official trailer for an indie drama titled The Godfather Buck, another film from filmmaker Thomas J. Churchill. It will be out to watch in April. This one sounds like it it's all about the big twists and reveals. Two brothers, who meet once a year at a cabin in the woods in Big Bear to hunt white-tailed deer for a week, uncover hidden family secrets and lies when their stepbrother drops by for an evening, changing their lives forever. The film stars Frederick Keeve (who also wrote the script and produced), with Kyle Lowder, Indar Smith and Julie Eagleton. This one looks especially melodramatic and overly campy, with some impressively over-the-top performances and a doozy of a score in this trailer. Doesn't look great but you also just must see this trailer. Here's the...

"In this house... evil is everywhere." Lionsgate has released an official trailer for a direct-to-dvd horror film titled The Amityville Harvest, the latest from genre director Thomas J. Churchill. This film actually has nothing to do with the original Amityville movie or any of its sequels/prequels/rip-offs. It seems to have been made as a terrible vampire movie set inside a creepy house that was updated with the "Amityville" name because it's now in public domain. While staying at an aging manor to research its liquor-smuggling history, Christina and her documentary video team interview their spooky host Vincent but strangely no one can capture his image or voice on video. Hmm, I wonder if it's because he's a vampire? Maybe?! The film stars Sadie Katz, Paul Logan, Julie Anne Prescott, Eileen Dietz, Yan Birch, and Kyle Lowder as Vincent. I call this "strange" in the headline, but it really...

This year’s Halloween season has been thought of by many as the light at the end of the dark and depressing tunnel that has been 2020 so far. After all, even if it’s still not safe to get together with all your friends like you do every year, you can still get into the spirit of the season by watching any of the many new horror movies and shows releasing around the year’s greatest holiday. But if you don’t already have a frightening new release to look forward to this October, Lionsgate has got you covered with The Amityville Harvest.
Little has been revealed about the new film from writer-director Thomas J. Churchill, but the trailer above seems to tease haunted funeral parlours, a visibly malicious antagonist whose image and voice cannot be recorded, crazy cannibalistic butchers and some other unspecified monsters for good measure. Days of Our Lives is losing its leading lady.
That much was revealed Monday when Kristian Alfonso dropped the bombshell that she was quitting the NBC sudser after 37 years in the role.
“Days of Our Lives has been a vital part of both my personal and professional journey,” the actress said in a statement.
“I am forever grateful to NBC and the late Betty Corday, who took a chance on me many years ago and changed my life."
She continued, "I have built some lifelong friendships with my extraordinarily talented castmates. Days has one of the hardest working crews in all of television, many of whom have become part of my extended family."
"I feel blessed and honored to have been invited into people’s homes for over three decades.”
The actress has already filmed her exit, and there's no indication about how it will play out.

Generally when I see the name Bruce Dern, I have a lot of faith in a movie. He is a great actor who I enjoy seeing onscreen. But not even he could save this one. Nation’s Fire looks like a cross between a student film and a Lifetime movie, but made by a man. That man is Thomas J. Churchill, who wrote and directed the film. Nation’s Fire also stars Krista Grotte, Gil Bellows, Paul Sloan, Chuck Liddell, Lou Ferrigno Jr., Kristen Renton, Laurene Landon, Tom Proctor, Kyle Lowder, and Wyatt Walter. Here’s the synopsis:
The leader of an all-female motorcycle club abandons her gang to raise her son. Meanwhile, certain members of their all-male counterpart gang establish an underground drug ring led by a ruthless criminal. When her son is killed in a school shooting caused by the drugs and he is named as the shooter,...

"It takes courage to get back on the bike." Vision Films has released the official trailer for an indie action-thriller titled Nation's Fire, the latest from producer / director Thomas J. Churchill. This looks like one of these "how did this even get made?!" kind of terrible films that no one will even see. The former leader of an all-female motorcycle club loses her son in a drug-fueled school shooting caused by a Russian gangster and his daughter. Now she will rally her old gang and their male counterpart's motorcycle club to seek vengeance for her son's death and to prove her son was not the shooter. Sounds... very American. Starring Krista Grotte, Gil Bellows, Bruce Dern, Paul Sloan, Chuck Liddell, Lou Ferrigno Jr., Kristen Renton, Laurene Landon, Tom Proctor, Kyle Lowder, and Wyatt Walter. I don't know whether to condemn this film, or just laugh at it. Looks so stupid,...

When the news broke that Chloe was leaving Days of Our Lives, viewers guessed she'd be pursuing Rex.
The two were headed towards a relationship before Rex abruptly ran off to Chicago, and it would have been a nice nod to Days history for them to go off into the sunset together since Kyle Lowder played Brady when Brady and Chloe last dated.
But instead, Chloe left for an unrelated reason on Days of Our Lives during the week of 8-26-19: a random opportunity to join an opera in New York City.
Technically, it wasn't random. After all, Chloe left town once before to pursue a singing career and everyone in Salem knows opera is her first love. In fact, the drug cartel boss that kidnapped her in 2018 used the promise of a role in an opera to try to lure her to Mexico.
However, this new offer came out of the blue.

Linsey Godfrey only started appearing as Sarah Horton on “Days of Our Lives” last fall, but the actress has already earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress. This is Godfrey’s third nomination in this category and fourth nomination overall. She contended for this award in 2015 and 2016 for playing Caroline Spencer on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and in 2014 she was up for Best Younger Actress for that role.
The nominations and winners for these awards were decided in a single round of blue ribbon judging when panels viewed sample performance reels from each actor. Those reels weren’t made available to the public this year, but they were available to the press. Here’s what you need to know about the scenes Godfrey submitted.

Who kidnapped Ciara? Was Eli out of line with Hope? And will Jack use Haley’s secret to help him win the election?
Our TV Fanatics Jack Ori and Christine Orlando are joined by Wendylou and Mikey from MyHourglass a Days of Our Lives fan forum to debate whether Jack will betray Jj, Chloe’s next romance, if Jennifer needs to back off, Ciara’s latest predicament and more…
If Jj shares Haley’s secret with Jack, will he intentionally betray his son and use it to help him become the next mayor of Salem?
Wendylou: I'm afraid he will and that dawned on me half way through their scenes earlier this week. That's a shame too because I really enjoy them together and I was so glad to see Jack show up at Jj's door as a place of refuge.
I'm enjoying watching them develop or re-develop their father/son relationship as two adults.

Three-time Daytime Emmy nominee Arianne Zucker played Nicole Walker on NBC soap opera Days of our Lives for 19 years before she left to pursue other projects in 2017. At the time, she did want to be tied to a contract but was open to a return. That return will happen this fall when Nicole will make her way back to Salem for a story arc.
Since leaving Days, Zucker has made her way to primtime, filming several TV movies including Web Cam Girls, Mommy Be Mine and Blind at 17.
She also appeared in the first season of digital drama Ladies of the Lake, winning an Indie Series Award in April for her portrayal of Lisa Roth. Based on the Ken Corday novel of the same name, Ladies of the Lake was executive produced by Corday, Michael Caruso and Zucker's ex-husband and former co-star, Kyle Lowder, who will also be returning to Days this year.

Devanity, which finished on top of the We Love Soaps TV Indie Soap of the Week Poll for its entire first season run, has added another big name to its second season cast. The show, which is a 2011 ITVfest nominee for Best Drama, has revealed that Kyle Lowder has signed on to play a villainous 3-episode arc in the demented DeVanity world filled with backbiting, in-fighting, deceit and…high end jewelry design.
Lowder began his run in daytime television in 2000 as Brady Black in NBC’s Days Of Our Lives. Lowder remained in this role until 2005 and earned both a Daytime Emmy nomination and Soap Opera Digest Award along the way. From 2007 until January of this year, Lowder starred as Rick Forrester in the CBS Daytime drama, The Bold And The Beautiful. Also a professional singer, Lowder has since released his self-titled CD, which debuted at #3 on iTunes in the Classical Crossover category.
