- Ernst Luz was born in 1878 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA. He was a composer, known for The Prisoner of Zenda (1922), Forget Me Not (1922) and Prudence, the Pirate (1916). He died in October 1937.
- As musical director of the Loews chain of theaters in the silent era, he supervised an army of 1600+ musicians and 50 organists and compiled music cue sheets for a huge number of films.
- In 1912 he developed a system he named "Motion Picture Synchrony" - a method of selecting appropriate musical accompaniments based on color-coding.
