Belfast-born Irish-British character actress, on stage from 1918. Prompted by Gerald du Maurier to change her surname from McIldowie to MacGill for her appearance onstage in "Dear Brutus". She was critically acclaimed as Desdemona, opposite Basil Rathbone, in a London production of "Othello". In small film and television roles in England and the United States from 1920 onward.
