American submarine Captain Joe Glass is on the hunt for a U.S. sub in distress in the Arctic Ocean. He soon learns that a secret Russian coup is in the offing, a conspiracy that threatens to dismantle the world order. With crew and country on the line, Glass must assemble an elite group of Navy SEALs to sneak through enemy waters, rescue the kidnapped Russian president and prevent World War III.
Donovan Marsh’s Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman staring, Hunter Killer is an unapologetic 90s action throwback and while it basks in the glory of outlandish politics and toxic masculine bravado, it undoubtedly should have been left in the era it was designed for.

It’s no trick for even the most ham-fisted global action thriller to achieve a ripped-from-the-headlines “topicality.” Just throw in a terrorist from the right enemy nation, or an American president with the right haircut. So it’s a weird and musty Twilight Zone indeed that one enters to watch “Hunter Killer,” a grindingly ponderous and bombastic neo-Cold War submarine thriller — how ponderous is it? It stars Gerard Butler, and he’s the most lighthearted thing about it — that in every relevant detail seems three years, if not two decades, behind the times.
Consider its take on the U.S. president. The character, played by Caroline Goodall, is transparently modeled on Hillary Clinton. As a result, one watches her scenes utterly removed from the drama (I use the term loosely) and preoccupied, instead, with thoughts like, “Was this film really shot that long ago?” It was. The Tomorrow People is still off to a bumpy start. Here's Ron's review of the second episode...
This review contains spoilers.
1.2 In Too Deep
From the very beginning of this week's episode of The Tomorrow People, the programme assumes that the viewership isn't smart enough to remember the rules of the world they're recreating from one week to the next. Not only do we get an opening voice-over which goes into detail about what the Tomorrow People are, what Ultra's mission is, and just what the Tomorrow People can do that makes them so special and dangerous, we also get a catch-up “previously on” montage after the opening credit sequence, as well as the occasional reminder explanation of the three T's during the middle of the episode (telepathy, telekinesis, and teleportation). That's a whole lot of refresher information, and a whole lot more voice-over.

From the sound of things, you should plan ahead and arrange for a group hug to be waiting for you
after watching tonight's Glee.
News
Syfy released a lot of news yesterday and probably the biggest revelation is that it ordered a fourth season of Being Human.
The channel also ordered a bunch of series and pilots. That included a pilot of High Moon from "television icon" (I'm going to use that title in the future, I sound too much like a fanboy when I call him a "god of teleplays") Bryan Fuller, and developing seven other dramas set in space. Every so often I'll see a complaint about how Syfy doesn't have any shows set in space (a big part of science fiction, admittedly), clearly they're trying to address that.
Syfy also ordered a few series including a horror anthology series from Jamie Foxx to air as part of Syfy's Halloween programming.

Lifetime has decided to cancel Drop Dead Diva after four seasons on the air.
Debuting in July 2009, Drop Dead Diva begins as a vapid aspiring model named Deb is killed in a car accident. Unhappy with her prospects in heaven, she finds herself sent back to Earth and ends up in the body of a recently deceased lawyer, Jane (Brooke Elliott). Deb must now deal with being in the body of her complete opposite --someone who's brilliant, hard-working, charitable, and overweight.
Others in the cast have included Margaret Cho, April Bowlby, Kate Levering, Jackson Hurst, Josh Stamberg, Ben Feldman, Lex Medlin, and Carter MacIntyre.
The fourth season finished airing on September 9th and averaged 2.3 million viewers with a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That was slighly better than the performance of the third season -- 2.26 million...

And as if she weren’t busy enough shooting Diva and trying to figure out what to wear for next month’s Emmy show, Cho dons a wig and sexy Gaga-esque outfit in this week’s episode as "Lady Bodacious". We jumped on the phone with Cho to get the details on her Emmy outfit and on becoming a Lady.
AfterElton: First of all, your Emmy nomination! Congratulations!

The votes are in, and "Mad Men" newcomer Ben Feldman scored an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of the AMC drama's fast-talking Michael Ginsberg in the Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series category.
On Thursday, Feldman took the time to talk to HuffPost TV about his nomination via phone. In addition to gushing about his "Mad Men" co-stars Elisabeth Moss (Peggy Olson) and Jon Hamm (Don Draper), who are also 2012 Emmy nominees, Feldman opened up about whether or not he would be returning to "Drop Dead Diva" and the surprising reason he'd love to work with Al Pacino.

Production on Drop Dead Diva’s fourth season wraps on July 6, and April Bowlby couldn’t be more excited about the fun that awaits fans of the Lifetime dramedy.
So far this season, Stacy (Bowlby) has opened a new business, the gang has welcomed a new angel (Carter MacIntyre), and Jane’s (Brooke Elliott) romantic entanglements with Grayson (Jackson Hurst) and Owen (Lex Medlin) have become more complicated than ever. And the triangle stands to get more difficult to decode — for the audience, anyway. Bowlby says this season, Stacy has thrown her weight behind only one man.

The Lifetime dramedy series Drop Dead Diva continues to pose the question of whether it is wise to tempt fate and destiny by trying to recapture pieces of a life that one has lived before. For Jane Bingham (Brooke Elliott), formerly Deb until she hit the “return” button at Heaven’s gate and found herself back on Earth — but in possession of another woman’s body — the desire to reclaim the life she lost has been overwhelming. Unable to bear the loneliness of her new life, Jane revealed her body-switch secret to her best friend, Stacy (April Bowlby), and is constantly fighting temptation to tell her former boyfriend Grayson (Jackson Hurst) the same thing. But at the end of the third season, it was not Jane’s indiscretion that may have finally revealed her secret, but Stacy’s.

"Drop Dead Diva" is back (Season 4 premieres Sun., June 3, 9 p.m. Et on Lifetime) and there's a lot to clear up. Last season's big finale ended with Jane (Brooke Elliott) leaving after she saw Grayson (Jackson Hurst) kissing her best friend Stacy (April Bowlby) -- then Stacy telling Grayson Jane's big secret ("I'm not Deb, Jane is.").
Now the tables have turned a bit: Jane is happy with Owen (Lex Medlin) and Grayson is finally the one pursuing her. But who will she ultimately choose?
I caught up with star Brooke Elliott to get scoop on the new season, the ever-changing love triangle and the rumors that we'll see a big proposal this season.
"I don't know if I could reveal that. That's very secretive!," Elliott said with a laugh. "Maybe the relationship with Owen progresses, but people ... they've got to watch, I can't say."
She also teased that, even...

Drop Dead Diva returns for a fourth season this Sunday, June 3rd, and I have a great giveaway to help celebrate. The surprise (to me… because it sounds crazy on paper) Lifetime hit held strong through three seasons, and it doesn’t look like it will be slowing down. Season four opens with Kim Kardashian in a guest role as a relationship guru Stacy enlists to help make sense of her life.
More importantly, there are a couple of new regulars joining the cast. Certainly not a show that is scared to mix things up, it looks like we’re in for a wild ride through the first few episodes.
Check out more info and a teaser below, then enter to win the Unleash Your Inner Diva Prize Pack.
Lifetime’s critically acclaimed hit series, “Drop Dead Diva,” returns for a fourth season with 13 new episodes premiering Sunday, June 3, at 9/8c.

Drop Dead Diva returns to Lifetime on Sunday (9 p.m. Et), and after three seasons of Jane (Brooke Elliott) pining for Grayson (Jackson Hurst) — the man she was engaged to as model Deb, before Deb died and her spirit entered attorney Jane’s body — the tables will turn. Last we saw Grayson, Deb/Jane’s best friend Stacy (April Bowlby) had informed him “I’m not Deb, Jane is,” and now, he’s the one smitten. The problem: Jane saw Grayson kiss Stacy in a moment of missing Deb, and she went to Italy with Owen (Lex Medlin), with whom she’s now happy.

Move over Outlaw, NBC has cancelled another new series. The spy dramedy Undercovers is ending its run after 13 episodes.
Undercovers revolves around a married pair of former spies who are pulled back into service after their close friend goes missing. The TV show features the talents of Boris Kodjoe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mekia Cox, Carter MacIntyre, Gerald McRaney, and Ben Schwartz.
The series stumbled right out of the gate and attracted a disappointing 2.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.7 million viewers. After reading what Josh Reims, the co-creator of Undercovers, said about featuring more serialized storytelling, I foolishly allowed my hopes to be raised again for this show.
But "Assassin" didn't exactly deliver on that front. Still, for yet another standalone episode, it was quite heavy on plot. And, to my surprise, I actually enjoyed it... for the most part.
Leo was back, which was a relief, even if he was scarcely used. He really does need to be in every episode. He's been the most interesting character in the series, and Carter MacIntyre hams up his scenes with just the right amount of bravado. Meanwhile, Samantha and Steven both stepped up to the plate, as she faced down demons from her past and he posed rather convincingly as a ruthless assassin.
