Michael Shannon has done his fair share of high-budget films, like Man of Steel, but the actor has not shied away from doing smaller projects either. However, working on a particular project allowed the actor to meet one of the industry greats, something he likened to being a ‘dream’.
Michael Shannon as General Zod in Man of Steel
A Little White Lie is a cerebral literary thriller film, revolving around Shannon’s character, who is a down-on-his-luck handyman who gets mistaken for a celebrity writer. The film had a box office run of only $22,482 (via Box Office Mojo), but that does not mean the cast was not stuffed with talented artists of the industry, one that Shannon couldn’t believe he was working with: M. Emmet Walsh.

They’re back. Rlje Films presents the Stephen King reboot Children of the Corn by Kurt Wimmer on 500+ screens. It’s a redo of the classic 1984 slasher-horror film about kids possessed by a demonic spirit in a dying cornfield, with bloody, rampaging results.
King’s iconic short story features a 12-year-old Nebraska girl who recruits the kids in her small town for a killing spree of all the adults, and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival. There are some new twists, in Wimmer’s version, the corn is genetically modified. Starring Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey and Bruce Spence.
The story is great, spawning numerous spinoffs beginning with Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice in 1992 followed by Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest in 1995. Most went direct to video.

There’s nothing little about the whopper at the heart of “A Little White Lie,” a comic drama about fame and impostor syndrome. The movie’s central conceit — pretending to be a renowned author, a janitor accepts an invitation to visit a liberal arts college — is rife with potential. But writer-director Michael Maren (whose 2014 debut “A Short History of Decay” also featured an author protagonist) sticks to the obvious, ignoring potential themes of blind celebrity worship and oblivious academia that would have added some satirical edge to this genial but dull movie.
Based on Chris Belden’s 2013 novel “Shriver,” “A Little White Lie” focuses on a handyman (Michael Shannon) leading a reclusive life in a rundown apartment building who receives an invitation from a university to be the guest of honor at their annual literary festival.

Whoopi Goldberg and Giancarlo Esposito have joined previously announced Toni Collette and Thomas Haden Church on the comedy Shriver.
Content will introduce the project to international buyers on the Croisette next week. The project is in pre-production and will shoot later in the year.
Shriver centres on a loner who gets mistaken for a famous reclusive author and assumes the writer’s identity.
The loner attends a conference in honour of the writer while masquerading as the star of the show, and falls for an English professor as the real scribe turns up.
Michael Maren directs from a screenplay he adapted from the novel of the same name by Chris Belden.
Thruline’s Josh Kesselman and Alfred Sapse are producing.

Nathan Fisher (Bryan Greenberg), the protagonist of Michael Maren’s wistful family comedy A Short History of Decay, is a blocked Brooklyn writer who gets dumped by his gorgeous live-in girlfriend, Erika (Emmanuelle Chriqui), for having (essentially) no purpose in life. A short time later, he learns that his father, Bob (Harris Yulin), has had a stroke. After pleading with Erika for sympathy, Nathan flies to his parents’ spacious home in Sarasota, Florida, where his dad is recovering and his mom, Sandy (Linda Lavin), is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s. Nathan sits around feeling sorry for himself, chats up a French girl (Rebecca Dayan) at a bar, has lunch with his mother’s sunny manicurist (Kathleen Rose Perkins), and bickers with his parents and visiting older brother (Benjamin King), a lobbyist. Not a lot happens, and yet, as in the best so-called “slice of life” stories, you feel...

Paladin Pictures has acquired "A Short History of Decay", the directorial debut by author journalist, and war correspondent Michael Maren ("The Road to Hell"). The film debuted last fall at the Hamptons International Film Festival. The film follows Nathan Fisher (Bryan Greenberg of "Prime" and "One Tree Hill"), a thirtysomething Brooklyn hipster whose ambitious girlfriend (Emmanuelle Chriqui) leaves him after his writing career stalls. Nathan soon gets a call from his brother in Florida that their father (Harris Yulin) has been hospitalized. Nathan arrives home to find his father recovering, if grouchy, and his mother (Linda Lavin) in a hazy state. While there, he meets his mother's manicurist (Kathleen Rose Perkins), the polar opposite of his girlfriend, but perhaps what he needs to recover. The acquisition was announced by the Paladin's president, Mark Urman. The company previously released Michel Gondry's "The We and the I" and acquired last year's Sundance.

"Normally, we have radios and shit to do this with, but we're going bare bones today," shouts Michael Maren, author and first-time director, during the very last day of filming his debut feature, A Short History of Decay. A volunteer cast eagerly follows his direction, which consists mainly of the orders "Look up," "Look down," and "Get back to work!" "Work" happens to be their day job, the distinctly unfilmable act of writing.

An hour into the shoot, half of them are in the glare of the film’s single light and a rented camera. At a front table, Elissa Schappell, Darin Strauss, and Mary Morris pretend to work. Behind them are memoirist-poet Nick Flynn (Another Bullshit Night in Suck City...
