On Dave Holstein’s Kidding, production designer Maxwell Orgell faced a classic artistic challenge, crafting sets for a show-within-a-show. Following the downward spiral of a Mr. Rogers type, the dark comedy centered on Mr. Pickles’ Puppet Time, a nostalgia-inducing kids’ program with touches of the surreal.
Conceived as a family-run production, coming to viewers from a small soundstage in Columbus, Ohio, Puppet Time was a space marked by the low-budget, crafty magic of local broadcast, which unsurprisingly came with its own wide assortment of original felt creations. With names like Uke-Larry, Soap Scum and Ennui Le Triste, the puppets were every bit as singular as the Puppet Time sets themselves, the product of collaboration between Orgell and two other highly imaginative minds.
When it came to designing Puppet Time and its many idiosyncratic inhabitants, director Michel Gondry was one essential voice. A veteran of children’s television who knew that world inside out,...

Washington -- The White House receives politicians, dignitaries, celebrities and other well-known figures on a daily basis. It usually doesn't post Vine videos of those visits.
The White House tweeted out a Vine of everyone's favorite sugar-fiend, the Cookie Monster, peeking and waving from behind a pillar.
Cookie Monster was visiting on serious business. Wednesday, the White House hosted a panel on the issues facing kids of incarcerated parents. "Sesame Street" head writer Joey Mazzarino moderated.
D.C.'s bakeries must be great -- this isn't Cookie Monster's first visit to the nation's capital this spring. In May, the blue creature was at the Rayburn House Office Building to join lawmakers for a Uso event.

After years of pushing Hollywood's leftist agenda by indoctrinating children with the socialist philosophies of sharing, normalizing homosexuality, and fostering relationships with nations known to harbor terrorists, Sesame Street will see the favor returned with another full-length Hollywood movie—its first since 1999's The Adventures Of Elmo In Grouchland critiqued capitalism through the vilification of nap creating (or "blanket stealing," as they called it). After the success of "The Muppets," studios are now looking at other children's properties to bring to the big screen. Now comes word that 20th Century Fox has acquired the rights to "Sesame Street" and has hired Joey Mazzarino to write the script. Mazzarino was a writer and director on the television show. "Sesame Street" is an educational series, which premiered in 1969, featuring a combination of live-action and puppetry, as well as animation. It is best known as the home of the Jim Henson creations Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and Elmo. It's estimated that about one in three Americans has watched the show, and the format is broadcast in dozens of countries. "Sesame Street" also has won 138 Emmys during its lifetime. The series has generated two previous big-screen adaptations, 1985's "Follow That Bird," with John Candy, Chevy Chase and Dave Thomas, and 1999's...

Looks like the classic PBS kids series Sesame Street is heading to the big screen! 20th Century Fox picked up the rights to the show, and longtime show writer Joey Mazzarino has been hired to write the script.
Like many of you, I grew up watching Sesame Street. It's been on the air since 1969 and features several of our favorite characters such as Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, and Elmo, most of which were created by the great Jim Henson. Director/producer Shawn Levy and long-time Street writer Joey Mazzarino are partnering up with Twentieth Century Fox for the motion picture-adaptation of one of television’s longest-running and most educational children’s programs. Sesame Workshop, the non-profit behind the program, will also have a hand in the production.

The educational program featuring Elmo, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie and many more has been on the air for nearly 45 years and amassed 138 Emmys in that time. THR mentions that one in three Americans has watched Sesame Street and the program is presented in several countries all over the globe.

Following the resurgence of the Muppets franchise, you can't blame Fox for wanting to get in on the puppet game. THR reports that the studio has acquired the rights to Sesame Street and have hired show veteran Joey Mazzarino to write up a script for a full-length movie. Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Night at the Museum) is on board as one of the producers. The television series has ventured onto the big screen twice before, in 1985's Follow That Bird and 1999's The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Bird starred John Candy, Chevy Chase and Dave Thomas alongside the series' marquee puppets. No word on when Fox is targeting this film to be released, but considering the script hasn't been written yet, it might be a while before we see Big Bird, Elmo, Oscar and the rest of...

Sunny day is sweeping the clouds away for "Sesame Street" fans.
20th Century Fox has picked up the movie rights to the beloved children's television show and has hired longtime "Street" writer, Joey Mazzarino, to pen the script according to Heat Vision.
This would not be the first big screen version of "Sesame Street." In 1985, "Follow That Bird" was released featuring John Candy, Chevy Chase, and Dave Thomas. And in 1999, "The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland" was released.
Now, with the success of "The Muppets," Fox seems to think that it's the right time to bring out our favorite residents of "Sesame Street" such as Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Grover, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and Elmo.
Shawn Levy ("Date Night," "Night at the Museum," "Real Steel") is attached to produce but will he direct and tell us how to get to "Sesame Street?" Stay tuned...

Follow Those Puppets: We’ve seen multiple movies featuring The Muppets, and a couple of flicks starring Big Bird (above) and Elmo, but what about all the other beloved characters from Sesame Street? Well, a film version of the long-running children’s TV series is finally on its way, with 20th Century Fox acquiring rights and hiring show veteran Joey Mazzarino to craft a script. Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Night at the Museum) is on board as one of the producers. [The Hollywood Reporter] Political Jesus: Director Paul Verhoeven (Total Recall, Basic Instinct) co-wrote the book Jesus of Nazareth, in which Jesus is portrayed as “the leader of a political movement,” among other non-traditional views (no miracles, not the Son of God, and so forth). If you got up on the wrong side of the trash can this morning, this news might cheer you up.
According to "The Hollywood Reporter," 20th Century Fox has snagged the movie rights to "Sesame Street" and is lining up behind-the-scenes talent for a film.
The good news is that they've hired Joey Mazzarino to write the script. Mazzarino is a longtime denizen of "Sesame Street." He wrote 24 episodes from 1998 to 2007, directed 13, and is also one of the puppeteers. He's won two Emmys, one for writing and one for directing.
And he co-wrote "Muppets from Space," which had Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Tambor, and Hulk Hogan in it, as well as Frank Oz manning the Muppets.
While it doesn't seem like they've picked out a director, Shawn Levy is on board as one of the producers.

Hot off the success of the recent Muppet big screen return, Fox have announced the hiring of director Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Date Night) to adapt another kids favourite – Sesame Street.
The Sesame Street gang, which celebrated a 40th anniversary in 2009, have dabbled with movies in the past, most notably the Big Bird centric Follow that Bird and The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, but have generally taken a backseat to Kermit, Gonzo, Piggy et al. Now though they’re getting their own chance to shine and the timing could not be better.
Unless you lived in a trash can much like Oscar the Grouch, you’ll remember Sesame Street from when you were growing up, with it’s host of bizarre characters, obsession with numbers and letters and it’s fantastically catchy theme tune. "Sesame Street" celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2009, so, in many ways, the fact that a movie version of the popular kids program is in the works probably shouldn't be much of a surprise. Of course, there've been individual character movies like 1985’s "Follow That Bird" and 1999’s "The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland," but director Shawn Levy ("Real Steel") and his 21 Laps banner, along with fellow producers Michael Aguilar, Mark Gordon and Film 360's Guymon Casady, want to produce an adaptation of the entire show.
Familiar to almost everyone who has ever been a child, certainly in the U.S., "Sesame Street" is a mixture of animation, short films and sketches and songs performed by a cast of puppets and guest stars, all intended to amuse and educate children while offering parents or caregivers a much-needed break from chasing their kids around the house. But just how longtime "Sesame Street...

It's a Sunny Day for Sesame Street lovers! According to the Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has nabbed the movie rights to the children's favorite. The studio is also vying for seasoned "Street" scribe, Joey Mazzarino, to write the script with Shawn Levy ("Night at the Museum"), Michael Aguilar, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady producing. Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster and the rest of the gang first appeared on television in 1969. Created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett, the educational series quickly became a beloved childhood staple, going on to win 138 Emmys. Fox had no comment on its newest acquisition. This adaptation-to-be comes off the heels of two other children's coups, "Clifford the Big Red Dog" and the Paddington Bear, which are both heading to the big screen. [via THR]...

Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch and co will make their third foray into cinemas following the success of last year's Muppets movie
Sesame Street is to follow The Muppets on to the big screen, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The long-running Us children's TV series that brought the world Big Bird, Bert and Ernie and Oscar the Grouch will make its third foray into multiplexes following 1985's Follow That Bird and 1999's The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Studio 20th Century Fox has bought the rights from the show's production company Sesame Workshop, formerly known as the Children's Television Workshop. The TV iteration's regular writer Joey Mazzarino will take charge of the screenplay but a director is still being sought for the project.
The long-running, partly educational series first screened in 1969 and remains hugely popular with audiences across the globe. It utilises Muppet characters created by Jim Henson, though he did not instigate the show.

Hot on the heels of the big screen return of The Muppets, some more of Jim Henson's creations are heading to the big screen again. Heat Vision has word that Shawn Levy, who is quickly becoming as busy as Steven Spielberg, is producing a new Sesame Street feature film for 20th Century Fox. Levy likely won't direct the feature, but Joey Mazzarino, a longtime writer for the show that started way back in 1969, is slated to script the film. Considering Sesame Street has always been more educational than comical, I wouldn't expect something as universally pleasing as The Muppets, but it won't pander to children learning to read. This isn't the first time Sesame Street has hit the big screen as the 1985 film Follow That Bird and The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland in 1999 saw a theatrical release, but they definitely don't have the same film legacy as ...

We suppose we should have seen this coming after the successful return of Kermit and company to the big screen in The Muppets. Remember the viral “Sesame Street” video “I Love My Hair”? The puppet from that video is back again and ready to proclaim to kids everyone that not only can they accept their hair exactly the way it is, but to also believe they can be whatever they want to be when the grow up. They've been inspiring kids for over four decades, so it should be no surprise that Sesame Street's latest song is a fun little groove called "Change The World."
Starring the always happy Muppet who first announced her love for her hair -- in the appropriately titled "I Love My Hair" -- back in 2010, the song encourages young ones to follow their greatest dreams, whether that means being a doctor, an astronaut or even the President of the United States.
The song is written by Joey Mazzarino, the show's head writer. He penned last year's "Hair" song for his then-five year old daughter Segi, whom he and his wife adopted from Ethiopia when she was one. The character is clearly inspired by the little girl, and it's touching to see a father give his daughter such a great pep talk in such a creative and public way.

'Sesame Street' Writer 'Didn't Think Anything' Of Katy Perry's Outfit: The MTV News Quote Of The Day
"I was there, and she had this mesh thing on top of it and I didn't even notice. I didn't think anything of it, and I'm pretty sensitive to things my daughter sees and it didn't even strike me as anything. My daughter was there on set with us and she thought [Perry] looked like a Barbie doll, she thought she was beautiful and she loved to watch her. Not to say I don't see other people's point of view — I get it — but it didn't hit me at first, at all."

Before Joey Mazzarino adopted his 5-year old daughter, Segi, from Ethiopia, he had no idea hair could be such an issue.
It wasn’t until she told him she wanted long, straight, blond “princess” hair after playing with her dolls that the Sesame Street head writer and puppeteer knew he needed to do something.
His efforts turned into a super cute skit, “I Love My Hair,” featuring an African-American puppet sporting an afro who shows appreciation for her unique tresses in song.
After debuting on the Oct. 4, the video instantly became an Internet sensation.

These days, it's Katy Perry's impending wedding to Russell Brand that's creating all the buzz, but there was a time — like, a month ago — when it seemed that the only thing people wanted to talk about regarding the pop starlet was her appearance on "Sesame Street," and why it was "inappropriate" for the show's young viewers.
The skit — in which Perry sang a version of "Hot N Cold" with Elmo while wearing an outfit some parents deemed to be too revealing — was subsequently canned by the folks behind the children's program, and in the days following their decision, Brand (and Elmo) weighed in with their two cents, and Perry lampooned the situation during her September 25 appearance on "Saturday Night Live."
And then, well, everyone pretty much moved on.
