Steve Martin, 78, is the thing that’s buzzing in Hollywood right now, with the release of his Apple TV+ documentary.
The documentary revolved around Steve’s difficult relationship with his father and how it shaped his career, even going as far as to reveal that he later learnt to take his father’s criticisms as motivation.
Steve Martin – On Why His Father Wasn’t “Proud” Of His “Unconventional Act”
The comedic actor’s documentary “Steve! (Martin) A Documentary in 2 Pieces”mainly explored his father’s reaction to his career choices.
“I always thought my father was a little embarrassed by me,” said Steve, who served as a narrator in the film. “He couldn’t quite be proud of an unconventional showbiz act that he didn’t quite understand.”
The “Only Murders in the Building” star, however, revealed that he soon found a better use for his father’s criticisms by turning them into motivation.

Long before he became a major big-screen star through the ‘80s and ‘90s (subsequently going on to thrive in the streaming era too with Only Murders In The Building), Steve Martin was a stage comedian whose stand-up shows and album recordings quickly became the stuff of legend. That’s a big part of the story being told in upcoming double-pronged documentary feature Steve! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces. As its title suggests, there are two strands to the film(s), from acclaimed director Morgan Neville – the first being ‘Then’, about Martin’s game-changing early comedy career; and ‘Now’, about his life and career in the present day. Check out an exclusive clip from the ‘Then’ portion, digging into the genius of Martin’s stand-up.

In February 2016, Jamey Johnson arrived at the Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee, to transform a Johnny Cash sketch into a full-fledged song. The result of that session arrives Thursday with the Rolling Stone Country premiere of “California Poem,” one of a number of new tracks on a deluxe edition of the album Forever Words. Originally released in 2018, the LP put Cash’s unfinished writings, poems, and lyrics into the hands of artists like Chris Cornell, Ruston Kelly, and Brad Paisley.

Not all that glitters is gold on the radio, and often one must scratch below the glossy surface of the neatly pressed and homogenous music business where TV pop stars litter radio playlists. Thankfully there is a growing number of outlets that cater to every type of rock music. Here are some of my favorite new releases from October culled from press releases, Spotify playlists, satellite radio, and peer recommendations.
"3-6-9" Cat Power Sun (Matador) - Still measured genius after all these years; six years in fact since The Greatest. My favorite track is this upbeat, haunting, multi-layered, auto-tuned, electronica-tinged sing-a-long. This is the sound of New Jack City in the 21st century. More Pj than Joni, Ms. Chan Marshall brings the noise and funk on her ninth CD, and in doing so, raises the bar for her musical peers, both genders.
"Ramada Inn" Neil Young Psychedelic Pill (Reprise) - Wtf?...

Nashville, Tenn. -- Doug Dillard, an influential banjo player who helped shape rock `n' roll and introduce the nation to bluegrass music during a popular run on "The Andy Griffith Show," died Wednesday in Nashville. He was 75.
Lynne Robin Green, president of Dillard's publishing company, said he died due to a lung infection.
Dillard, a founding member of family band The Dillards out of Salem, Mo., was influential in several ways. Dillard, his brother Rodney and two band mates moved west in 1962, rather than taking the usual route to Nashville. They discovered the burgeoning folk scene in Southern California and helped inspire the country rock movement. They were among the first to attempt to modernize bluegrass music, electrifying their instruments and experimenting with rock elements.
Dillard also helped introduce bluegrass to TV viewers as a member of the unusual family band "The Darlings," who made multiple appearances on "The Andy Griffith Show...

He was once the king of screwball Hollywood comedies, and has now reinvented himself as a bluegrass banjo player. But Steve Martin explains why he can't quite leave the laughs behind
When Steve Martin quit standup three decades ago for a career in the movies, he swore he would never perform live comedy again, so stressful did he find being on stage. But tonight, at the Highline Ballroom in Manhattan, he's cracking jokes and acting out sketches, and looking completely at home.
He's here to perform songs from his second bluegrass album, Rare Bird Alert, with his band, the Steep Canyon Rangers. As well as playing banjo, guitar, mandolin and upright bass with the fluency of virtuosos, they are also the straight men in Martin's comedy routines, supplying deadpan replies to his absurd reveries.
Martin begins the show with a volley of self-deprecating patter. His companions are "one of the best bluegrass bands in existence,...

The latest musician to grace the stage at the Grand Ole Opry? None other than country music star ... Steve Martin? The Emmy Award-winning actor, comedian and writer will perform songs from his first music album The Crow - New Songs for the Five-String Banjo, which was released Tuesday. And he won't go it alone: Martin will be joined onstage by an all-star band including Vince Gill and Amy Grant. But Martin's banjo picking is no fad - his good friend John McEuen (who produced the album) says of Martin and the upcoming gig, "The audience will find out he's a musician disguised as an actor.

Comedian Steve Martin is not known for conventional performances. He's pulled audiences out into the street on Elliston Place and is known for making a scene at odd hours of the night. On May 30, he will make a more conventional and significant performance when he makes his Grand Ole Opry debut.
The appearance at the Opry comes as Martin releases his first music album. The Crow: New Songs For The Five-String Banjo showcases his skill as an accomplished banjo player. He played the instrument during a recent hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live." The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's John McEuen produced Martin's album and he'll back Steve that night at the Opry.
John and Steve became friends during their teen years in California. John says when Steve picks, fans will get to see how much it means for him to bring his music to the heart of country music. He...
