Oscilloscope Laboratories has acquired North American distribution rights to So Yong Kim's "Treeless Mountain." The New York-based distributor will open the film on April 22 at the Film Forum in New York before moving on to a national theatrical expansion and a DVD release during the summer.
A follow-up to Kim's "In Between Days," which earned a Special Jury Prize at Sundance in 2006, "Mountain" tells the story of two young sisters who are left behind by their mother when she goes in search of their estranged father.
The film was produced by Lars Knudsen, Jay Van Hoy, Ben Howe, Bradley Rust Gray and Kim and executive produced and financed by Ian McGloin, Jamie Mai and Charlie Ledley under their Strange Loop Entertainment banner.
It had its world premiere at last fall's Toronto International Film Festival and is screening in the Forum Section at the Berlin International Film Festival next month.
