'Colin Firth vs Scum'. In an alternate reality, we'd like to think this movie was given that iconic title. Especially as its most joyous scene involves the former Mr Darcy tackling a pub full of rampaging thugs armed with just an umbrella – and without even one of his immaculately groomed hairs coming out of place or a single expletive emitting from lips that wouldn't scowl if you offered them a blank cheque. The Firth doesn't do disheveled or uncivilised, for as we learn from his character - 'manners maketh man'.
We also discover that the creative forces behind Kick-Ass maketh another belter that puts a dynamic twist on a well-worn genre. Boasting immense performances from Firth as an aristocratic agent and...

“It’s not just about football – it’s about dreams”, is a line uttered by Brian Cox’s Matt Busby, in David Scheinmann’s accessible, family drama Believe, a statement that is somewhat indicative of the entire production, as a film that certainly won’t alienate those not quite so informed about football. Instead this is a traditional story of the working class underdog, an area British cinema so often excels – but sadly, not quite as triumphantly in this instance.
The year is 1984, and former Manchester United manager – and legend – Sir Matt Busby is struggling with retirement, missing the adrenaline and exhilaration from a life in the dugout, and haunted by the memories of the Munich Air Disaster, which saw a large proportion of his team and staff killed. However when he stumbles across the talented youngster Georgie Gallagher (Jack Smith), he finds his passion returns, and is inspired to...

Rik Mayall, most famous for his portrayal of sniveling anarchist Rik in the early '80s BBC comedy series The Young Ones, has died at the startlingly young age of 56, according to Variety. Mayall made his bones as the co-creator and lead writer for the series, which was among the first to put angry, counterculture British youth on television on a weekly basis. Not only was the character he created anarchic, so was the comedy, crashing back and forth between a quartet of equally unseemly characters. The Young Ones also served as an anti-Top of the Pops stage for underground music to bubble through, notably hosting performances from bands like Motorhead, The Damned, Madness, and many more. While many people outside of England lost track of Mayall...

Madness are set to reissue their long-out-of-print film, 32 years after its initial release. Entitled Take It Or Leave It, the film will come with an accompanying soundtrack album.
Directed by Dave Robinson, the owner of Madness's original label, Take It Or Leave It coincided with the release of the band's third album, 1981's Seven, and incorporated songs from their two earlier records. It is a mixture of documentary and drama, following the ska-pop band as they gambol around Camden, and tracing their history from pub band to hit-makers to their first overseas tour.
The film's DVD box set will be released on 7 October, bundled with a CD version of the soundtrack. Although the movie had a previous DVD release in 2002, this is...

Channel 5's Ben Frow has reportedly spoken of his desire to revive classic shows on the channel.
Director of programmes Frow cited the channel's karaoke series Night Fever - which originally ran from 1997 to 2002 - as a format he would like to revamp.
"[There's] no point trying to do yet another talent show but karaoke... perhaps it's time to bring it back," ThisIsVERiFiED.com quotes him as saying.
Night Fever was originally hosted by Madness frontman Suggs, and later co-hosted by Will Mellor and Sarah Cawood.
Frow also admitted that he would be keen to bring back short-lived BBC One soap Eldorado, which ended after just one year.
"It would play nicely with our two current 'sunny' soaps, Neighbours and Home & Away," he claimed.
Frow recently vowed to avoid "downmarket" programming on Channel 5 in future, insisting that he would never have commissioned Channel 4's recent Bodyshock documentary The Man with the 10-Stone Testicles.

Suggs has confirmed that Madness will release their tenth studio album next year. The band's frontman told Digital Spy that the follow-up to 2009's The Liberty of Norton Folgate would be out in 2012. Suggs said: "It'll definitely come out next year - hopefully we'll finish it this year. We were hoping to get it done but then we decided to postpone the whole thing because we weren't completely satisfied with what we've done so far. "We're working on it and I think it's that thing... when you're young you have all the time in the world. We don't spend 24 hours a day working on music like we used to when we were younger, so you have to do it in batches - sporadic, intense." > Suggs presents the Madness 'House of Fun Weekender': Interview

When Doctor Who returned to TV screens in the mid 2000s, the official BBC website ran a recurring feature called The Fear Factor. What happened was that a family of kiddywinks would preview the upcoming adventure and rate it from one to five as to how terrifying it was (1 = Harmless; 5 = Shit Your Pants). When it came to Tooth And Claw, the kids were suitably quaking at an episode that was touted as the scariest to date for the 21st century revival.
Now the scare factor in the reboot of Doctor Who has been a bit of a bone of contention. Some will argue that it's nowhere near as scary as what had gone before: The late '60s stories paraded scary monsters week in week out; The early '70s went close to the knuckle with blank-faced dummies, killer dolls and suffocating chairs; The mid-70s stories contained regular haunted...

He could be warm and witty... or cruel and obnoxious. But there was never any doubt he was a true artist. We recall the life and times of Ian Dury, now the subject of both a new film and biography
In Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, the new Ian Dury biopic, there is a scene that faithfully records the first time Dury met his songwriting partner, Chaz Jankel. It is May 1976 and the singer has just hobbled off stage after a particularly ramshackle London pub gig with his band of bedraggled misfits, Kilburn & the High Roads. The young, clean-cut Jankel strolls into the dressing room, grinning widely, and introduces himself. "Do I know you?" asks Dury, fixing him with a malevolent stare. "No," replies Jankel, still grinning. "Well do us a favour then," barks Dury, "and fuck off!"
Kilburn's guitarist Ed Speight convinced Jankel to return to the dressing room. In doing so,...

Madness have said that they are proud of the success of their new album The Liberty of Norton Folgate. The group claimed that it was a struggle to record the new LP, but they were relieved when it reached number five in May. "It took a long time to do this album but it seems to have been pretty well received so it's kind of rewarding," Suggs told Music-News. "We put a lot of effort into this record and it's always hard to compare one album against another but we're very pleased with what people are saying about it." Bandmate Chris Foreman added that it was a coincidence that the record's release coincided with the 30th anniversary of their debut LP One (more)...
