Looks like June and Serena are going to be on that train for a long time: The Handmaid’s Tale‘s upcoming Season 6, its final run, won’t premiere on Hulu until 2025.
In an interview with our sister site Deadline, Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich, who’s in charge of Hulu’s original programming, said the dystopian drama would return to the screen sometime next year. His comments echoed star/executive producer Elisabeth Moss’ recent remarks at the Television Critics Association press tour; Moss, who is pregnant with her first child, told reporters that the show is “prepping right now.

We’re learning more about the upcoming sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
The final chapter of the Emmy-winning Hulu series originally was to begin production in 2023 for a fall 2024 premiere, but that schedule, of course, was delayed by the strikes. In an interview with Deadline, Disney Television Group President Craig Erwich, who oversees content for Hulu Originals, said the sixth season now is set to begin production this summer for premiere in 2025. The series was renewed for its sixth and final season in September 2022, just ahead of its Season 5 premiere.
Season 5 follows June (Elisabeth Moss) in the aftermath of Commander Waterford’s (Joseph Fiennes) murder and the consequences she must face for her role in the gruesome slaying. At a minimum, she will have to face off with his widow Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), and on some level Gilead. But mainly, she will be forced to redefine her identity and purpose,...

We generally prefer to focus on positive things at the start of a new year, but the fact is that every good show must come to an end, and we're about to say goodbye to some truly beloved series in 2024. We've already lost so many shows recently, including NCIS: Los Angeles and Magnum P.I.
But here we are to discuss it some more! Some of the shows on this list are going out on their own terms after long, successful runs. Others are being unceremoniously kicked to the curb due to low ratings, massive budgets, or departing stars.
One thing they all have in common? Their loss will really sting.
But one they all have in common is that they're shuffling off the airwaves sometime within the next 12 months, so join us as we bid farewell to the following series from across the TV landscape.
We can't say we'll miss all of these shows,...

Jonnie Davis, the president of ABC Signature, has stepped down from his position. After leading the studio since 2019, Davis will be leaving to figure out his “next creative challenge.”
During his time with the production studio, Davis worked on shows such as ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” FX’s “Fleishman Is in Trouble” and Hulu’s “This Fool.” A replacement for Davis will be chosen at a later date.
Eric Schrier, the president of Disney Television Studios and Global Original Television Strategy, told his team on Friday.
“While news like this is never easy, I’m very confident in the leadership team we have in place, and I’m excited to work with them more closely until next steps are determined,” Schrier wrote. He also referred to Davis as an “incredibly valued colleague” and a “fantastic creative partner.”

Jonnie Davis is leaving ABC Signature.
Davis has been President of the Disney-owned studio since 2019.
He said it has been a “privilege” to work on shows such as ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, FX’s Fleishman Is In Trouble and Hulu’s This Fool.
The move, however, is not a precursor to merging ABC Signature and 20th Television and, despite a multitude of rumors, they will continue to operate as two separate divisions. The company is currently searching for a replacement for Davis.
Davis’ departure is a surprise given how close he has been to Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Dana Walden.
When he moved from 20th Television to ABC Signature, he was able to lure a handful of big-name talents across with him include Drew Goddard and Octavia Spencer.

The Handmaid’s Tale traveled outside the confines of Gilead for much of season five, expanding the story of June Osborne, played by Elisabeth Moss, after her escape from the totalitarian society at the center of the Hulu series. The first two episodes, in fact, picked up in Canada in the 24 hours after the show’s most violent act yet, when June led her fellow handmaid’s in the brutal murder of her former abuser, Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes).
And those episodes, both directed by Moss, kicked off the tone of the entire penultimate season, explain cinematographer Nicola Daley, costume designer Leslie Kavanagh and composer Adam Taylor in a THR Presents panel, powered by Vision Media. Particularly when the double-episode premiere ended with June’s abducted daughter Hannah (Jordana Blake) being used as a pawn by June’s Gilead nemesis Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski) during the worldwide broadcast of Fred’s funeral.

Get on the phone with Ron Bernstein and he’ll happily share his views on who’s up and down at the studios — and inevitably, he’ll talk about his latest deals. On a recent call, he hyped the Redstone family power saga by James Stewart and Rachel Abrams, “Unscripted: The Epic Battle for a Hollywood Media Empire”; sure enough, within weeks it sold to producer Steven Paul, who’s developing the juicy Shakespearean drama for television.
Bernstein is Hollywood’s most respected media rights agent. He’s repped the source material for the Coen brothers’ Best Picture winner “No Country for Old Men” (Cormac McCarthy), Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” (Doris Kearns Goodwin), Danny Boyle’s “Jobs” (Walter Isaacson), and Clint Eastwood’s “Richard Jewell” (Marie Brenner).

“The Handmaid’s Tale” will have a pair of new leaders for its swan song at Hulu. Longtime series creator and showrunnner Bruce Miller has stepped away from the helm of the Emmy-winning drama after five seasons to focus on development of its upcoming sequel series “The Testaments.”
Executive producers Erich Tuchman and Yahlin Chang have been named co-showrunners for the show’s sixth and final season, TheWrap has confirmed. Miller, who has been running the series from the start, will still be actively involved in production of the final installment and write two episodes.
Miller had been juggling writing the final season of “Handmaid’s Tale” — the first streaming series to win an Emmy for outstanding drama series in 2017 — with leading development of “The Testaments,” based on the book of the same name from author Margaret Atwood. When The Handmaid's Tale returns for its sixth and final season, it will be under new leadership.
Bruce Miller, who has been at the wheel of the Hulu hit since its premiere in 2017, is stepping down.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang will serve as co-showrunners for The Handmaid's Tale Season 6.
The reason for the switcheroo is to allow Miller to focus on The Testaments, a long-in-the-works spinoff.
As previously reported, The Testaments is based on Margaret Atwood's sequel novel.
Despite handing over day-to-day duties to Tuchman and Chang, Miller is still expected to write two episodes of the concluding chapter of the Elisabeth Moss-headlined drama series.
The Testaments has been in the works since 2019, and it's currently unclear how the end of the original series will set up the spinoff.

Bruce Miller has stepped down from his post as showrunner of the “The Handmaid’s Tale,” passing his duties on the sixth and final season to Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang, who already served as writers and executive producers.
Miller has showrun the Hulu drama since its premiere in 2017. He will remain on staff as a writer and executive producer on Season 6 while moving on to focus on developing a screen adaptation “The Testaments,” the “Handmaid’s Tale” sequel that original author Margaret Atwood wrote in 2019.
Tuchman has extended his preexisting overall deal with MGM, which serves as the studio on the series. Along with “The Handmaid’s Tale,” he is best known for writing for the 1997 animated “Anastasia” movie and serving as showrunner on “Kyle Xy,” with other credits including Freeform’s “Stitchers,” the CW’s “Beauty and the Beast,” Syfy’s “Alphas” and “Eureka” and CBS’ “Early Edition” and “Dr. Quinn,...

There’s a changing of the guard in the behind-the-scenes world of Gilead.
The Handmaid’s Tale showrunner Bruce Miller, who has steered Hulu’s Emmy-winning drama since its start, has handed over day-to-day oversight of the Elisabeth Moss series. Longtime writers and exec producers Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang have been named co-showrunners for the sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, taking over the role previously held by Miller.
Miller has been steering development of The Testaments, author Margaret Atwood’s sequel to Handmaid’s Tale, at the same time as he’s been plotting the final season of the flagship series. With too much on his plate, Miller opted to focus on The Testaments, with Tuchman and Chang taking over the everyday decision-making on the flagship series. Miller, sources say, will still be highly involved with the final season and will write two episodes of the season.

Five seasons into its run, "The Handmaid's Tale" has now outpaced both the book on which it's based and the presidency it was so aptly born into. Now, the show is finally set to end with its sixth season, which will close the book on some of its central stories while others could still continue on in a sequel saga that's already been greenlit, titled "The Testaments."
If you've made it this far into "The Handmaid's Tale," you know that the world of Gilead is probably too bleak and morally shady to get a straightforward happy ending, but that still won't stop fans from wondering about exactly how the story of June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) will come to a close. The fifth season ended on an intriguing note in November, with a plot that has June and her baby separated from everyone she knows — except her former tormenter Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) and her own baby.

The Handmaid’s Tale fans all have the same question on their lips after the season five finale.
On Monday (19 December), Channel 4 aired the concluding instalment of the latest season, one day after the penultimate was broadcast.
Naturally, viewers are now wondering whether the show will return for a sixth season – and if so, when it will premiere.
Will there be a Handmaid’s Tale season 6?
The good news is that the show, an adaptation of the Margaret Atwood novel, will indeed return for another batch of episodes. However, it will be the last.
Elisabeth Moss will reprise her role of June Osborne one final time, showrunner Bruce Miller told Deadline.
“It has been a true honour to tell the story of Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novel and chillingly relevant world, and we are thrilled to bring viewers a sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale,” Miller said.

“My evil plan seems to be coming to fruition,” executive producer Bruce Miller says of how The Handmaid’s Tale will end in its upcoming sixth and final season. The Hulu drama is about motherhood, what it’s like to be a woman, fear, hatred, violence, love, and passion, but the focus of the final season will be “identity,” he previews, pointing specifically to June (Elisabeth Moss) searching for hers. “You’re talking about a character that began with no name. She was Offred for a while, then she was June, then she was Ofjoseph. That’s what the show’s about. It’s called The Handmaid’s Tale and it’s about her and that experience in her life and you really want to, in the end, feel like, when she began, she wasn’t a handmaid and, in the end, this is what she took from that experience, this is how she’s changed.

Season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale was a harrowing one for Gilead escapees taking refuge in an increasingly inhospitable Canada… which is why it seemed odd that one of the most vocal refugees had such little screen time.
Moira, played by series regular Samira Wiley, had little to do over the course of the season, despite being enmeshed in the effort to aid refugees in Toronto. She was often present in scenes at the house with June and Luke, and she accompanied June to Mayday’s outpost. But overall, Wiley was onscreen considerably less than in previous seasons of the Hulu drama.

Sometimes life imitates art, but in McKenna Grace’s case, life mimicked art a bit too closely.
The Handmaid’s Tale actress revealed that she underwent spinal surgery in October, the same night an episode of the Hulu dystopian series aired that saw her character, Esther Keyes, wake up in a hospital bed.
While Grace did not explain what caused her to have the surgery, she shared that a month later, she’s recovered and will “elaborate more about all of this” because “who I am and want to be was truly changed.”
“Social media only reflects what we want people to know—often we don’t see the ugly, hard, less-flattering sides of a person and their life,” Grace said in a social media post that featured a video of her in the hospital post-surgery and footage of her posing for a recent photo shoot.

June Osborne, Our Lady of Perpetual Can’t a Girl Catch a Frickin’ Break?!, gets run over by a car in The Handmaid’s Tale’s Season 5 finale. And somehow, that’s the least painful development in her life during this week’s episode.
By the time the hour goes to black, June has once more lost her husband and is moving farther away from her daughter in Gilead. But she’s gained one hell of a travel partner: Serena, who winds up on the same refugee transport as June and Nichole.

[This story contains major spoilers from the season five finale of The Handmaid’s Tale, “Safe.”]
The Handmaid’s Tale often puts June Osborne in treacherous situations, and where the season five finale leaves its heroine is no exception. But, it’s helpful to remember that there is no Handmaid’s Tale without Elisabeth Moss’ starring character.
“The show exists because June survived,” Bruce Miller, creator and showrunner, tells The Hollywood Reporter in a chat about the final episode of the season, “Safe,” which he wrote and Moss directed. “The only reason the show is recorded history, in our fake world, is because she recorded it. So, she has to survive because it’s de facto what made this exist.”
That reminder comes in handy after the cliffhanger ending to season five, which put June aboard a train with other Gilead refugees in hopes of making it to Vancouver and, eventually, Hawaii. June spins a...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 finale, “Safe.”] The Handmaid’s Tale once again separates June (Elisabeth Moss) and Luke (O-t Fagbenle) at the end of Season 5, with the former on a train out of Canada and the latter taken into custody. That’s the result of the Canadians’ refugee hate reaching new heights, with a man running down June — and over her arm — with his car and Luke defending his wife. That man died, and with Mark’s (Sam Jaeger) help, June and Luke prepared to flee via train with other refugees. But with the police looking for Luke, he gave himself up, and June got on the train with Nichole … only to then run into Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) and baby Noah! Executive producer Bruce Miller breaks down the finale and teases what’s ahead. When did you know you wanted to end the season with June and Serena in a...

Elisabeth Moss on ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Cliffhanger Finale and How to Interpret Her Final Expression

[This story contains major spoilers from the season five finale of The Handmaid’s Tale, “Safe.”]
After beginning its current season with the smirk seen ’round the globe, The Handmaid’s Tale ended with another telling expression.
The fifth season of Hulu’s dystopian series began by pitting June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) against Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski). At the end of the two-episode premiere, Serena had brought June’s Gilead-captive daughter, Hannah (Jordana Blake), into view during a global broadcast of the funeral for her late husband, Commander Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) — and shot the camera a knowing smirk intended for June. Thousands of miles away in Canada, June received the message loud and clear.
But the world of The Handmaid’s Tale moves quickly and, by the pivotal seventh episode, June was faced with the impossible choice of helping Serena deliver her newborn baby or letting her die when the pair were stranded together in No Man’s Land,...

Spoiler Alert: The story below reveals major plot points from Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 finale.
Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale wrapped up its fifth season tonight and while a lot has changed for June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), the season ends in ways similar to how it all began.
When viewers first meet June, she is torn apart from her husband Luke (O-t Fagbenle) and the life they shared with their daughter Hannah—a scene that’s imitated in the Season 5 finale. June and her daughter Nichole board a train for an unknown future in Hawaii as Luke is arrested by the authorities.
His arrest is unfair considering Luke was saving his wife from a man attempting to kill her by running her over in his truck but here we are—the world is crumbling. It’s worth noting the hired hitman was sent by Gilead to dispose of...

[The story contains spoilers from the ninth episode of season five of The Handmaid’s Tale.]
Bradley Whitford recalls a key tip he received when directing his first episode of The Handmaid’s Tale.
The script is often lying, he was told by creator and showrunner Bruce Miller. And as a director, it was his job to tell the truth.
For his first episode behind the camera — the ninth episode and penultimate hour of season five, “Allegiance” — the actor who plays Gilead Commander Lawrence was tasked with seeking out the truth about his own character. For the past couple episodes, Lawrence has been trying to convince June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) to return to Gilead — the oppressive regime and country she escaped — and live in New Bethlehem, a modernized, liberal island settlement where refugees can return with amnesty and reunite with lost family and friends. A step in the right direction, he says, to help redeem himself...

The news, unveiled Monday, comes after the e-commerce giant closed its acquisition of the studio, which is the international distributor of the dystopian hit drama, earlier this year.
All four seasons of the show, based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Canadian author Margaret Atwood, are currently available on Channel 4’s streaming service All 4 and Prime.

Amazon Prime Video is to co-premiere The Handmaid’s Tale for the first time in the UK with Channel 4.
The fifth season of Hulu’s original will land on both networks later this year in a deal rarely seen in the UK TV world.
MGM is international distributor of the dystopian Margaret Atwood thriller, which is created by Bruce Miller and stars Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes and O-t Fagbenle, and the move comes just a few months after Amazon acquired MGM, thereby giving Prime Video access to its distributor’s catalog worldwide.
Given these circumstances, Deadline understands both sides have worked together on launch plans and feel the agreement is reasonable. The UK deal will not impact the show in the U.S.

A smirk and a growl.
Those were the dueling images The Handmaid’s Tale left for viewers when it returned.
The smirk came from Serena Joy Waterford (Yvonne Strahovski), with the once-reigning Gilead wife enjoying her winning moment when, during a global broadcast of her late husband’s funeral, she brings Hannah (Jordana Blake) into her televised appearance. June Osborne speaks those words while sitting at a diner and having a celebratory meal, to the tune of Dolly Parton’s “Gettin’ Happy.” The irony of the uplifting vibe is that Elisabeth Moss’ starring character — who is in a state of shock after leading the violent group murder of her former commander and abuser, Gilead leader Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes), as is evidenced by his dried blood remaining caked on her face and hands — only finds a fleeting moment of happiness while in the eatery with her fellow former handmaids.

The last time we saw The Handmaid’s Tale’s June Osborne, she’d led a pack of former handmaids to help her murder Commander Fred Waterford in the woods. With Fred’s blood drying on her hands, she returned home and crept into her daughter’s nursery to hold little Nichole for the last time before going on the lam or surrendering to the authorities — it wasn’t clear which. Either way: June knew the jig was up.
So in the Season 5 premiere, she’s shocked to find out that, actually, the jig will go on as scheduled! Nothing to see here!

"The Handmaid's Tale" is steadily inching towards its end: Season 5 of the Hulu series debuts on the streamer with its first two episodes today. The adaptation of Margaret Atwood's 1985 dystopian novel has been lauded for its ability to disguise itself as a metaphor for real-world issues. Its latest season is an honest depiction of its protagonist's trauma and how the past can sometimes be inescapable.
