After starring in the best romantic comedy on TV in 2014, ABC’s short-lived Selfie (I still miss you now and every day, you beautiful show), Karen Gillan has signed on for a new project that certainly sounds a lot darker than the life of Eliza Dooley. The actress has joined the cast of the HBO drama pilot The Devil You Know (the potential series’ working title), which was co-written by Orange Is The New Black creator Jenji Kohan, Bruce Miller, and Tracy Miller. Per Deadline, The Devil You Know is “a provocative period drama” that “explores the circumstances around one of the most compelling chapters in American history — the infamous Salem Witch Trials in 17th century New England, where intolerance and repression set neighbor against neighbor and led a town to mass hysteria.” Gillan joins a massive cast that already includes Eddie Izzard, Nadia Alexander, and Ismenia Mendes in series regular roles.
