First came to prominience in North America with his acclaimed run on "The Saga of the Swamp Thing" for DC Comics. Also created the highly praised Watchmen mini series and the one shot prestige printed book, "The Killing Joke" which gave the origin of the Batman villian, the Joker, for the first time for that company. Also wrote numerous Superman stories, most notably "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow", the last Superman story before John Byrne's major overhaul of the character.
