Things often end up going out of control while filming or reading for intense scenes in a film and Val Kilmer’s The Doors is no stranger to this. The 1991 film was based on the short life of musician Jim Morrison and was titled after his rock band. The film focuses on many elements of the late singer’s life including his experience with hard drugs. The role of the vocalist was played by Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan played his girlfriend, Pamela Courson.

Ken Jennings was a Jeopardy! champion before he started hosting the show. This might explain why he is getting frustrated lately with some of the contestant’s guesses on the show. This was evident in a recent episode where one contestant went home with $0 and another lost in Final Jeopardy! by dropping below $1,000.
However, there was another episode where multiple triple stumpers caused him to show great disappointment.
Jeopardy! Contestants Struggling More Often Lately
Ken Jennings isn’t the only person to watch in shock as more contestants don’t know the answer to the board’s clues lately. Many viewers watch from home and don’t understand how the contestants are missing what is said to be “easy” clues.
Jeopardy! posted some triple stumpers to its Instagram page. This is a case where none of the contestants know the answer. What is amazing is that some of these are rather easy clues,...

Amid a fertile alternative music scene in the U.K., spurred on by a flurry of new independent labels, bands like Echo & the Bunnymen had to work harder to stand out from the pack. The austere, post-punk minimalism of the group’s first three albums earned them critical acclaim and a cult following, but by 1984 their sound—Joy Division as fronted by Jim Morrison, if you will—was in need of retooling. Was there space for another scrappy, dour foursome alongside more established acts like Siouxsie and the Banshees, an ascendant U2, and unique sounds from the likes of Cocteau Twins and Depeche Mode?
Echo & the Bunnymen’s fourth album, Ocean Rain, would prove to be their shining moment. The quality of the songwriting ensures its status as a classic, separating it from both the band’s more uneven earlier works and their patchy, self-titled follow-up from 1987.

As Anthony D’Amato preps backstage at Sony Hall in midtown Manhattan, it’s hard not to notice his six-foot height, horn-rimmed glasses — and the name “Amy” in large black letters on the side of his head. In a few minutes, the New Jerseyan and his 12-piece band will walk onstage, take their places beneath an LED sign lit up with Amy Winehouse’s first name and a simulation of her signature beehive,...

Fresh from Panic Fest 2024, The Ceremony is About to Begin unwraps itself like a meticulously preserved mummy, serving up a fresh twist on the horror mockumentary scene. Directed by Sean Nichols Lynch, this found footage film cleverly marries the allure of ancient Egyptian rituals with the chilling uncertainty of cult dynamics, all captured through a ‘documentary’ lens.

Mumbai, April 2 (Ians) Auteur Imtiaz Ali is one of the rare filmmakers who strikes a perfect balance between philosophy and entertainment in his stories.
While his earlier works like ‘Socha Na Tha’ and ‘Jab We Met’ were more on the entertaining side, films like ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009), ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’ have aged like a fine wine and have cultivated a new fan base which craves for deeper meaning to a story as much as the entertainment.
The filmmaker is now gearing up for his ninth film, the biopic based on the highest selling Punjabi musician of all times, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’.
“There are a lot of ‘9’ happening,” Imtiaz told Ians as he seems in a quirky mood.
“Nine is my favourite number, A.R. Rahman (his music composer) also loves nine, he has made ’99 Songs’ and ‘Chamkila’ is my ninth film”.

It is not coincidental that Netflix is releasing the Diljit Dosanjh-Parineeti Chopra-starrer ‘Chamkila’ a day after Sidhu Moose Wala’s death anniversary, for the subject of the biopic, singing sensation Amarjit Singh Chamkila, was as controversial in his lifetime as Moose Wala and he too was shot dead, but the case remains unsolved till today.
At the time of his assassination, along with his wife Amarjot and two of their band members, on March 8, 1988, the man Amit Trivedi described as the “Elvis of Punjab”, was 27 years old, at the peak of his career, and in so much demand that he was said to have been booked for “366 days in a year”.
Moose Wala was 29 when he was killed on May 29, 2022, allegedly on orders from Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar’s associate, Lawrence Bishnoi. If Moose Wala was controversial in his lifetime for his espousal of a gun culture – the same gun...

SXSW 2024 is in full swing, complete with a new next-to-impossible ticket. The Black Keys continued the promo run they began Thursday afternoon with a keynote Q&a with Rolling Stone‘s Angie Martoccio by heading to Mohawk, a downtown club whose capacity is just a shade smaller than the arenas and festival stages they normally play. Accordingly, many fans got turned away at the door when the fire-code capacity for the Keys’ set of blues covers was reached, well before their midnight start time. But there were tons of other...

For 15 minutes or so, Bob Marley: One Love promises to be an antidote to the usual cookie-cutter music biopic, the kind skewered by the 2007 spoof Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Riffing back then on 2005’s Walk the Line, which starred Joaquin Phoenix as troubled country star Johnny Cash, Jake Kasdan’s film took aim at the whole jukebox-movie industry, featuring a solemn lead character who “has to think about his entire life before he goes on stage.”
Spoiler alert: this kind of thing also happens in One Love. But Reinaldo Marcus Green’s film promises so much more, things like real-world politics, emotional complexity, and serious danger. In other words, an alternative to the usual narrative of the greenhorn who dreams big, lives that dream, and then gets sucker-punched by The Man. Gradually, though, the realization dawns that we’re being sold a pup. As Led Zeppelin might say,...

Ask Bill Wyman what people should expect from The Stones and Brian Jones, documentarian Nick Broomfield’s new film about the late, doomed founder of the band, and he’s pretty straightforward about it: “The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but!”
That may be a slight exaggeration, but there’s no denying that the documentary, for which the former Rolling Stones bass player was a “historical consultant,” delves into the highs (laterally and figuratively) and lows of the man who started the Stones but never lived past the Sixties.

The Rolling Stones have existed for six decades, yet the women who influenced the members and their music have been largely overlooked and under-appreciated. But with her new book Parachute Women: Marianne Faithfull, Marsha Hunt, Bianca Jagger, Anita Pallenberg, and the Women Behind the Rolling Stones, Elizabeth Winder is attempting to change that. Saturday Night Live has become renowned for its iconic sketches, many of which have gone down in TV history as legendary. Part of what makes the NBC sketch comedy series so special, is the unpredictable nature of the live show. From cast members breaking character to surprise celebrity cameos, some of SNL’s most iconic moments have come from improvised performances. Recently, Jimmy Fallon appeared on Andy Cohen’s podcast and shared an hilarious story about a sketch he performed on the show with no rehearsal and no script.
Jimmy Fallon was an ‘SNL’ cast member for six years
According to IMDb, Fallon’s breakthrough as a performer came during his six-year tenure on Saturday Night Live from 1998 to 2004. Before joining the cast, he had been a stand-up comedian, but it was his work on SNL that catapulted him into mainstream fame and cemented his status as a beloved entertainer.

Looks like television viewers still enjoy a clip show?
On Monday, MTV announced that ratings for the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards saw a significant increase in viewership, both overall and in the key 18-49 demo, compared to the 2022 event.
A total of 2 million people watched the event on its various platforms, a 23% increase over the 1.6 million who checked it out last year. 1.45 million of those viewers were in the demo, a 14% uptick compared to last year’s 1.27 million. And ratings via simulcast went up 3% year over year.
And in case you’re wondering about less meaningful statistics, MTV says these viewers “consumed” a combined 521 million minutes, which is a 5% increase over last year’s 498 million.
There was even an 80% increase in the amount of individual votes for the various awards, to 77.7 million.
These viewership wins come despite the fact that the 2023 awards show was in effect nothing more than a clips episode.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards were forced to morph into what largely amounted to a clip show on Sunday as host Drew Barrymore had pulled out in solidarity with the WGA, and MTV scuttled plans for red carpet interviews and an in-person ceremony in order to to avoid run-ins with picketers (and lack of talent willing to show up).
The show that aired was largely made up of clips of memorable moments from past MTV Movie Awards ceremonies — everything from Jim Carrey accepting his award as Jim Morrison to Sacha Baron Cohen landing crotch-first into Eminem’s face after a “stunt gone wrong.” They even played Katy Perry and Snoop Dogg’s performance of “California Girl” from the 2010 show in full, just to fill some time.

If there was ever an actor worthy of the distinction of "America's Sweetheart," it's Meg Ryan, who has been appearing in films since 1981. Effortlessly charming and with an often easygoing magnetism whenever she's on-screen, Ryan channels her natural talents effectively in romantic comedies and family-friendly fare. However, Ryan also possesses a much wider range than many give her credit for, delivering solid work in military dramas and character studies while occasionally branching out into hard science-fiction and fantasy.
Despite performing in dozens of film roles over the past 40-plus years, Ryan is one of her generation's more underrated actors. In fact, though millions of moviegoers adore her and her work, Ryan has yet to earn an Academy Award nomination of any kind. With that in mind, here are the 14 best Meg Ryan movies spanning her feature film career so far.

Rock’n’roll musicians have a habit of thinking of themselves like secular gods, but the truth is they’re not infallible. No matter how successful a band may or may not have been in the past, there’s never any guarantee their next record will live up to the heights they’ve previously scaled. Sometimes, everything that once went right just all goes wrong.
There are often extenuating circumstances, of course. Band members may leave due to death, drugs or just good old-fashioned “musical differences”, or an ambitious new direction may turn out to be more like a swerve into oncoming traffic.
Whatever the cause, the fact remains that just because an album has the name of a classic band slapped across the cover, it doesn’t necessarily follow that the album itself will be a classic.

Musicians build their reputations on their art, which means that they can sometimes get away with rude behavior, outlandish styles, and, in the case of these three artists, smelling bad. Here are three talented musicians who have caused people to complain about their odor.
Bob Dylan | Rowland Scherman/Getty Images Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan’s longtime road manager Victor Maymudes dealt with a lot while working with the musician. When their working relationship crumbled, Maymudes aired some of his grievances about Dylan. These included rude behavior, like blowing cigarette smoke in people’s faces or refusing to answer questions. He also had problems with Dylan’s hygiene.
“He doesn’t take his clothes off when he goes to sleep and the guy doesn’t clean his teeth,” Maymudes said, per the book Down the Highway: The Life of Bob Dylan by Howard Sounes. “He’ll smell like a f***ing hog.

Even some of the biggest Davie Bowie fans aren’t aware of the classic rock star’s contribution to goth culture. Though best known for his flashy outfits and spacey personas, he also dabbled in darker styles. Journalist and Membranes frontman John Robb offers insight into Bowie’s significance in the movement in his new book on the origins and rise of goth.
‘No Bowie, no scene’ David Bowie in 1978 | George Rose/Contributor
In a recent conversation with NME, Robb discussed his new book, The Art of Darkness: The History of Goth, and the decade of research that went into writing it.
“The Doors were the first band to be described as ‘gothic’ in October 1967, at a gig in New York,” he explained. “Jim Morrison had the baritone voice, wore the black leather, had a fixation on the Romantic poets. He was a quintessential goth.”

In a 2020 interview with the New York Times Magazine, actor Val Kilmer acknowledged his unfortunate reputation for being "difficult." Although possessed of movie star good looks, handily backed up by a great deal of talent and devotion to his craft, Kilmer often found himself butting heads with executives and studio honchos over his perceived ego. He admitted that had "alienated the head of every major studio," but only out of an attempt to empower actors and directors over studios, and, in his words, "attempt to breathe Suzukian life into a myriad of Hollywood moments." He further confessed as much in Ting Poo's and Leo Scott's 2021 biographical documentary "Val," when he admitted to behaving poorly. He then amended that more accurate adverbs might be "bizarrely" and "brazenly."
But for years, Kilmer couldn't shake his rep. Many stories of Kilmer's bad behavior notoriously came from the utter clusterf*** that was John Frankenheimer...

Daisy Jones & The Six might be about the meteoric rise and fall of a fictional ‘70s rock band, but its musical influences are anything but imaginary. Its author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, was inspired by the lore and chemistry surrounding Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.
Now, in the Amazon Prime limited series of the same name, Daisy Jones weaves the tale of Jones (Riley Keough) and frontman Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin), and how their relationship shapes the dynamics within their band.
Though Daisy Jones epitomizes 1970s culture and music in an all-encompassing, authentic way, some of its marquee actors weren’t fluent in rock ‘n’ roll when they first signed on to their roles. During almost two years of preparation for the show, however, they borrowed inspiration from some of the greatest names in music. In doing so, they pulled off a TV hit and music album that...

The Prime Video series Daisy Jones & The Six referenced several of the 1970s most infamous bars and clubs of the Sunset Strip. One club with a colorful name was an actual bar that named celebrities, including Elvis Presley and Mick Jagger, as patrons. Here’s the history of Filthy McNasty’s.

To keep the feel of the Prime Video film authentic, Daisy Jones & The Six did a lot of location shooting in Los Angeles. This allowed the series to appear grounded in the era.

Music is a powerful force that connects members of a generation, and when an icon of that generation passes away, the loss is felt among the masses; it is especially shocking when that larger-than-life celebrity dies suddenly and at a young age. While some people are quick to dismiss acting as just "playing pretend," a number of performers will feel an incredible amount of pressure as they prepare for roles they've taken. Sometimes it can take a toll on those that step into prolific roles like Willy Loman, Lady Macbeth, or even the Joker. But this can particularly be the case when actors portray characters who were also real people. After all, when you're in line to depict legendary pop culture icons such as Selena, Elton John, or Jim Morrison, you have a lot to live up to.

Eve Babitz, a writer and once-and-future “it” girl closely identified with the 1960s and early-’70s in Los Angeles, has died at 78.
Relatives confirmed her death on social media as well as to the Associated Press, but did not specify a cause.
Part-West Coast wild child, part-boho intellectual, Eve once described herself as a “stacked eighteen-year-old blonde on Sunset Boulevard… who is also a writer.” A famous image from 1963 shows her playing chess against Dadaist artist and writer Marcel Duchamp, with Babitz completely naked and Duchamp fully clothed.
As a writer and creative muse, Babitz had a wide-ranging impact, drawing comparisons to Joan Didion, who recommended a piece of hers to Rolling Stone, kick-starting her writing career. She also ventured outside the world of letters, designing album covers for Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds and Linda Ronstadt. She had romantic connections with notable figures like Jim Morrison of the Doors, Harrison Ford,...

The two actors, who both star in the upcoming animated film Sing 2, sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show on Thursday, Dec. 16, to play a rapid-fire game that saw them discuss their very first celebrity crushes—and unintentionally create the next great summer rom-com along the way. For Reese, that initial infatuation was on a very classic rockstar. "Jim Morrison from The Doors," she said, before adding, "I was a weird kid." Now playing on Amazon Prime, “Val” is a documentary that reveals an insider’s perspective of what it’s like to be a Hollywood actor. Like Oscar-winner “Amy,” archival footage is the secret sauce — in this case, shot by subject Val Kilmer himself and saved over the decades in a cavernous vault. Kilmer brought in editor Leo Scott a decade ago to digitize that footage. Several years later, Scott and another editor-director, Ting Poo, pitched Kilmer on turning his trove of material into a first-person documentary narrative about his so-called Hollywood life.
With any non-fiction film like this, getting access and keeping it is key to success. And yet the question when it comes to this sort of celebrity profile is always: How honest and authentic is the story? What has been left out? And, in the case of a film like “Val,” if the filmmakers work for the subject,...
