Wendy Williams once helped produce a movie about the late singer Aaliyah. But many people weren’t thrilled with Williams telling the singer’s story, including those closest to the star.

In 2014, Williams was behind the release of the Lifetime movie Aaliyah: The Princess of R & B. The feature chronicled the life of Aaliyah’s journey to superstardom, her relationship with acts like R. Kelly, Missy Elliot, and Timbaland.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Williams asserted that she did the movie to do Aaliyah’s story justice. Although she was aware there would be some controversy after helming the project.
“Lifetime needed to tell this story correctly. Fans won’t say, ‘Oh, my God, how could you disgrace her memory?’ And nosy people like me who want to find out things will also be fine,...

Drake’s new track “Push Up,” a diss directed at Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, the Weeknd, and others, had the rap world buzzing on Saturday. Then, shortly after, Rick Ross’ response, on “Champagne Stories,” turned a noteworthy day unforgettable. Hip-hop heads of a certain age were hit with a wave of nostalgia thanks to the way both songs were released. A clip of “Push Up” circulated on Reddit and Twitter before DJ Akademiks legitimized the track and played a studio-quality version on his stream. Then Ross sent his response to Akademiks just hours later.

Before she dropped her song “Karma” on Friday, JoJo Siwa spent several weeks letting the world know that she was done with bows and glittery-y pastels. In March, she posted a parental advisory message on her Instagram grid — teasing a new (and more explicit) era.
It became clear immediately that the 20-year-old was hoping for a rebrand built on shock value: Photos of the openly gay star embracing two girls at once, wearing Kiss-inspired face paint, and teasing lyrics about being a “bad girl” were rolled out in the weeks following the content warning.

In the Nineties, Missy Elliott and Timbaland were just a pair of kids from Virginia — but they ended up changing the sound of hip-hop and pop forever. The two geniuses would collaborate on production for their friends and eventually on Missy Elliott’s own successful string of albums and major hits. The most inventive of them remains “Get Ur Freak On,” the lead single off 2001’s Miss E…So Addictive.

The story everyone knows about the rise of the Mp3 and the end of the CD gold rush is a good one. It’s got Metallica and Dr. Dre, Sean Parker and the RIAA, Napster, Kazaa, Limewire, and the record industry’s flabbergasting decision to sue its own fans. But the real story, or arguably the most nuanced and fascinating one, lies elsewhere with a bunch of young computer wizzes scattered across the country and a handful of crafty, underpaid factory workers in Shelby, North Carolina.

Empress Of’s For Your Consideration is a celebration of Lorely Rodriguez’s voice as both an artist and vocalist. Where a similar artist might use synth pads as musical accompaniment, Rodriguez inserts the hum of her own voice. On the title track of her fourth studio album, the Honduran-American singer rearranges her breathing into a shuffling rhythm, while “Femenine” samples her vocals to serve various functions, including as percussion.
For Your Consideration can’t be classified as hyperpop per se, but the album’s sonic manipulations and their queer implications owe something to the subgenre. “Femenine”—the title of which subverts the Spanish language’s binary gender system, ending with an ambiguous “e” instead of a masculine “o” or feminine “a”—is about a woman’s desire to dominate a man. The song’s angular melody is pitched down, often mid-syllable, to emulate a masculine voice before Rodriguez responds in her natural tone.

Music by Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Bob Marley, Janis Joplin, and more has been placed on the surface of the moon in an “arts-centric time capsule” by the Odysseus lunar lander.
Launched by SpaceX, Odysseus arrived on the moon’s surface along with the time capsule on Thursday, February 22nd. Consisting of a digitized archive of music, photos, artwork, and more, the time capsule supposedly offers a rough overview of the breadth of human culture, from fragments of ancient Sumerian music notation to paintings by Rembrandt and Van Gogh to beats by Timbaland and more.
Housed in a glass, nickel, and NanoFiche structure, the time capsule was engineered to last for millions of years, if not more. Thematically, the curators focused on works from 1969, in commemoration of the Apollo 11 landing and the Woodstock festival that occurred weeks later. Britney Spears’ bombshell memoir The Woman in Me arrived in October with damning revelations about everything from her 13-year conservatorship to her complicated relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. Though incomplete in some senses, the 275-page book was the most comprehensive overlook into the moments that she had previously kept locked away. Readers clamored for those details when it arrived, but Spears has been grappling with its ramifications ever since.
“I wanna apologize for some of the things I wrote about in my book,” the singer wrote on Instagram on Sunday evening.

The last time Sean Combs’ music competed at the Grammys, a then-unknown Mark Zuckerberg had just created Facebook, Nipplegate occurred at the Super Bowl and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King garnered a record-tying 11 Oscars. It was 2004, and Combs, aka Diddy, won best rap performance by a group or duo — his third Grammy — for the thumping hit “Shake Ya Tailfeather,” featuring Nelly and Murphy Lee. The track appeared on the Bad Boys II soundtrack, which Diddy executive produced and released on his Bad Boy label.
So his return to the Grammys, two decades later with a nomination for best progressive R&b album for his The Love Album: Off the Grid, is a major feat — and a proud moment for the artist. Music producer Timbaland issued an apology after saying that Justin Timberlake “should have put a muzzle” on his ex-girlfriend Britney Spears.
In her new memoir, “The Woman in Me,” Spears wrote that Timberlake’s music video for “Cry Me a River” depicted the fallout of their relationship, which lasted for two years. The video featured Timberlake with an unfaithful woman who resembled Spears, suggesting that she cheated on him.
“He started being very standoffish with me,” Spears wrote about Timberlake. “I think that was because he’d decided to use me as ammunition for his record, and so it made it awkward for him to be around me staring at him with all that affection and devotion.”
Timbaland, who helped produce “Cry Me a River,” was asked about the song’s recent surge in popularity and Spears’ memoir during an interview last month.
“She’s going crazy,” Timbaland said about Spears.

Recently, the masterminds behind reggaeton's biggest stars and hitmakers have been coming into their own as artists. Last year, music producer Dímelo Flow released his debut album, "Always Dream." In June, producer Tainy also dropped his debut album, "Data." And now, Sky Rompiendo (real name Alejandro Ramírez Suárez) - one of the most in-demand Latin music producers of the past decade and the genius behind artists like J Balvin, Karol G, Maluma, and Feid - is shifting his focus from working behind the scenes to creating his own record. It's a move that has been long in the making, but for Rompiendo, the timing has been everything.
"I was inspired by all these producers like Pharrell, Timbaland, and Scott Storch - that whole movement of them eventually putting their faces up front and being more present in the scene versus not just always being behind the scenes," Rompiendo tells Popsugar.

Nsync’s first new song in more than 20 years, “Better Place,” dropped Friday. It’s off the soundtrack for the forthcoming “Trolls Band Together,” the third film in the franchise.
The song combines modern production with a throwback vibe. Breakout Nsync star Justin Timberlake takes a lead role throughout the song, as he often did in the band’s heyday. But each of the group’s singers get their own chance to shine throughout as they also deliver Nsync’s signature harmonies. The band did an interview with “Hot Ones” that premiered earlier this month talking about the recording of the track and what they were aiming for: “nostalgic but familiar,” according to Timberlake.
Nsync were scheduled to perform the song at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month, but those plans were iced thanks to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike earlier this month, Nsync member Lance Bass told E! News.
