One of the most beloved and long-running British Sci-Fi TV shows may be setting up the return of a fan-favorite character in a spin-off series on Disney+.
This has been the plan from the start, that Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor Who production era will feature multiple spin-off series and movies.
The newest Doctor Who era has Ncuti Gatwa taking the reigns as the pivotal character in the show, aka Doctor Who, and bringing a new, fresh take.
This is what makes the Doctor Who universe last as long as it has, as every couple of years, the Doctor and other characters on the show will get a revamp with new actors. This also means that older stories and plots can be revisited with new ideas and even newer and sometimes old faces.

Filming begins next week on a big-budget family drama, which producers hope will herald a new era in non-English language shows within the British Isles.
The Guardian reports that four-part thriller An t-Eilean (The Island) is the most expensive drama ever made in Scots Gaelic, coming in at £1million ($1.25m) an episode.
Cast and crew will descend on Amhuinnsuidhe Castle on the island of Harris – a location near Taransay, previously used for reality TV show Castaway in the early 2000s.
Backers include the BBC, which has enjoyed ratings triumphs with previous Welsh-language series Keeping Faith (Un Bore Mercher) and Hinterland (Y Gwyll). The show is co-production between Black Camel Pictures, Mg Alba, the Gaelic broadcasting agency, Screen Scotland and US-owned distributor All3Media.
The Guardian reports that, due to the work of All3Media, the show has already received offers from Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Belgium.

Fly on the wall? Pah! The wall is all the way over there! These days, viewers want to be flies buzzing right around the noses of the people making the headlines, close enough to tell what they had for breakfast. And thanks to true story TV dramas, they can.
It’s been a long time since ropey Lifetime Movies were as good as it got for true story TV. In recent years, British production companies have stepped up in a big way to serve a growing appetite for fact-based drama, but all too often the real-life TV dramas of today focus on haunting tales of history’s most gruesome murders. If you’re sick of serial killers, there are plenty of non-murder true stories to enjoy in drama form, from very public scandals to ordinary people doing extraordinary things, to the kinds of tragedies it’s important that we never forget.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Hijack Season 1 finale.] Seven hours later, Flight KA29 does reach London … but not without a few more twists in the Hijack Season 1 finale. It ends with Sam (Idris Elba) using his skills as a negotiator to talk Amanda (Holly Aird), who’d taken over the cockpit and was prepared to crash the plane since her daughter’s life was being threatened, into letting him join her — then listening as Alice (Eve Myles) guided her into a rough landing. Below, co-creators and executive producers Jim Field Smith and George Kay break down the finale. I like that the season ends before Sam does actually get off the plane — it’s fitting, given the story. Was that always the plan? George Kay: It was part of the storyline, and I think we liked the fact that so much of the show happens within the journey, so it’d be cool to try...

Review: Idris Elba has proven himself to be a multi-hyphenate powerhouse who can provide voice-over for animated fare, play a superhero, perform action in genres ranging from science fiction to fantasy, and even get some laughs in comedies. Elba is even an experienced DJ. The gun can do no wrong, and while his filmography is jammed with diverse projects, the instant I started watching Hijack, I knew the creative team brought him on board because of his voice. Flying on an airplane has to rank right up there with the least enjoyable experiences we face these days — so imagine my surprise when spending a few hours on a plane with Apple TV+’s Hijack actually turned out to be downright pleasurable. The new hostage drama starring Idris Elba (premiering Wednesday, June 28; I’ve seen three of the seven episodes) is a good old-fashioned pulse-pounder that takes full advantage of its claustrophobic setting with perfectly calibrated tension and high-intensity action scenes.

The confined space of airplanes, along with the assortment of strangers stuffed inside them and the looming potential for catastrophe, has always made them the ideal setting for a nail-biting thriller. The latest entry in the canon is Hijack, which follows a commercial flight traveling from Dubai to London that is, you guessed it, hijacked.
The journey is shown over the course of the series’s seven hour-long episodes, allowing us to witness how events play out in real time. Inside the plane, Sam Nelson (Idris Elba) and his fellow passengers concoct a series of schemes to try and outfox the terrorists, while, on the ground below, politicos and police race against the clock to figure out what to do about it.

"We got one job to do right now - just get through it for them." Apple has unveiled a trailer for the thriller series Hijack. Much like the movie Plane from earlier this year, this remarkably simple title does indeed hint that the series is about a hijacking on a plane. Because, you know, what else could you call a hijacking thriller other than just Hijack? Told in real time, this tense thriller follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven-hour flight, and as authorities on the ground scramble for answers. It’s Passenger 57 meets 24. Or perhaps just 24. Idris Elba stars in a new series from AppleTV+ called Hijack. The title pretty much cues you in on the concept. A group of terrorists takes over a seven-hour flight. What they want is not yet revealed, but they have allies on the ground that are helping to make their demands. However, something they didn’t count on is an experienced business negotiator already on the flight. This negotiator, portrayed by Elba, is preparing to deal with them…in more ways than one. The show takes during the events surrounding the seven-hour international flight and will be told in real-time.

The series was created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith (Criminal Truth Seekers), who also wrote and directed the series, respectively.
Told in real-time, Hijack is a tense thriller that follows the journey of a hijacked plane as it makes its way to London over a seven-hour flight, and authorities on the ground scramble for answers.
Elba will star as Sam Nelson, an accomplished negotiator in the business world who needs to step up and use all his guile to try and save the lives of the passengers — but his high-risk strategy could be his undoing.

It’s not unusual, in the world of Doctor Who, for the same actor to play more than one role on screen. From classic to modern Doctor Who, Nicholas Courtney, Ian Marter, Lalla Ward, Jaqueline Hill, Jean Marsh, Adjoa Andoh, Eve Myles, Naoko Mori, Vinette Robinson and more have all played multiple parts in the whoniverse. Before she debuted as companion Martha Jones, Freema Agyeman was a Torchwood employee who fell foul of the Cybermen in series two’s ‘Army of Ghosts’. Karen Gillan was a seer in series four episode ‘The Fires of Pompeii’ before she recurred as Eleven’s companion Amy Pond. Even the Doctor has had test runs. Colin Baker played a Gallifreyan commander in season twenty before taking over from Peter Davison. Peter Capaldi appeared in ‘The Fires of Pompeii’ as well as playing John Frobisher on Torchwood before taking up residence in the Tardis.

The most hyped part of the Doctor Who New Year’s special, “Revolution of the Daleks,” was the return of John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness for the first time on screen since Torchwood ended in 2011. Whovians have always been campaigning for a revival of the adult-themed spinoff show, but so far nothing has materialized. The open ended way Jack is written out of the special, though, seems to suggest that some kind of revival or reboot could be on the cards.
Oddly enough, Jack and the Doctor don’t say goodbye on camera, following the defeat of the Daleks, with the Time Agent instead sending a quick voice message to the Time Lord in the Tardis at the end of the episode. “Sorry, lost track of time,” he tells her over the phone. “Gwen Cooper sends her love, by the way – says she took out a Dalek with a...

Independent U.K. production outfits Fulwell73 and Empty Room Productions have partnered to develop and co-produce a feature film based on the true story of a Welsh community that hosted a drag show to raise funds needed to bring their church back from disrepair.
The project, which has the working title “Dragged to Church,” is inspired by the story of a desperate church priest in Wales who contacted local LGBTQ+ radio presenters and asked for help to repair the church, as a last resort. The result was a Christmas drag show and concert that ended up embodying the spirit of the festive season and literally raised the roof of the church once again.

When the unassuming bathroom attendant played by Dipo Ola is first introduced, he’s just trying to get through his thankless shift spraying cologne and handing out towels next to the toilets. He takes his job seriously, but not so seriously that, when push comes to shove, he will let a couple of hard-partying coke-heads snort a few lines. But a switch gets flipped when Baba spots that same couple in the back alley, and the aggro dude is getting a little too forceful with his hired “date.” It’s then that we see Baba’s dark side, and soon after we learn where it came from: This current U.K. bathroom attendant is a former child soldier from the Congo. His past is haunted, his secrets are black as night, and all he wants is to chase the light bursting from this adoring...

Showtime is moving Ethan Hawke’s The Good Lord Bird later in the year – a shift designed to put more context around the abolitionist miniseries as the focus sharpens on the issue of systemic racism in the U.S.
The Hawke drama was originally intended to premiere on August 9 but will now move its launch to October 4 in a slightly earlier slot – 9pm rather than 10pm.
The series, which is based on James McBride’s award-winning novel, is told from the point of view of Onion (Joshua Caleb Johnson), a fictional enslaved boy who becomes a member of John Brown’s motley family of abolitionist soldiers and eventually finds himself participating in the famous 1859 raid at Harpers Ferry. Showtime has moved up the premiere date of its upcoming miniseries “The Comey Rule” based on former FBI director James Comey’s memoir. It will air over two nights on Sept. 27 and 28.
Last week, Showtime announced that “The Comey Rule,” which stars Brendan Gleeson as President Donald Trump, would air in late November. The election is scheduled for Nov. 3. Showtime told TheWrap yesterday it was likely to move up.
Additionally, Showtime picked up the six-episode drama “We Hunt Together” from BBC Studios, which “explores the intoxication of sexual attraction and the dangerous power of emotional manipulation. Showtime Moves Comey Miniseries to Before Presidential Election Following Cast and Producer Backlash
Showtime has officially moved the premiere date for its miniseries about former FBI Director James Comey and his tumultuous relationship with President Donald Trump to prior to the presidential election.
The move comes after backlash from the cast and crew, expressed in a letter written by series writer and director Billy Ray. In the letter, Ray said he was told that the decision to air the two episodes after the election was “made at the very highest levels of Viacom.”
“We all were hoping to get this story in front of the American people months before the coming election. And that was a reasonable expectation considering that we’d been given a mandate by the network to do whatever was necessary to deliver by May 15,” Ray wrote.
His and the cast’s wishes have now been granted, as the series will air over two consecutive nights on Sept. 27 and 28. News...

The David Tennant era of Doctor Who may be long over, but the good folks at Big Finish Productions have managed to bring most of the stars of this golden period of the show back for more in the form of audio dramas. Previously, the likes of Billie Piper, Catherine Tate and the Tenth Doctor himself have returned to the Whoniverse in this way. Now, another star has been announced to be making a comeback: Freeman Agyeman, who played companion Martha Jones from 2007-2010.
Agyeman isn’t returning for a Who drama, however, but for a special one-off Torchwood audio adventure titled Dissected. The actress is part of the world of the adult-oriented spinoff show, too, as she appeared as Martha for three episodes of its second season.
Big Finish revealed the news on Monday, with Agyeman commenting on how much she’s enjoying being back:
“Aw mate, the nostalgia has been quite overwhelming.
